Canon profit again going down. Btw, they have predicted / projected the loss earlier, but the actual data of net sales are bit more lower compared to the predicated data . In Canon Imagine sector you can clearly see the loss, the loss they are facing not new. We are covering up these details back from 2014. Each year Canon camera division is more shrinking compared to the previous year. Every year the DSLR sales graph going down compared to previous year.

For Imaging System, the contraction of the market for interchangeable-lens cameras, mainly for DSLRs, continued in step with the proliferation of smartphones, resulting in a significant decline in sales and profits.

Canon overall profit increased up to 4% in the first quarter of result. The overall profit of the company increased due to the high demand of chip making equipment across Asian countries. But, again Digital Camera sales dropped upto 8% in the first quarter of 2018. And that’s really a sad news for digital cameras giant like Canon.

As we have already told you in one of our articles published few days ago that photography is all time popular. Instagram other social sharing sites are booming up with billion’s of images. YouTube is now more and more crowded than ever before, so that clearly indicates that people still love photography, but the means and the standard of taking photograph has been changed dramatically and these cameras giant must understand that what people actually want right now and how to satisfy their own needs. Yes, they do make concrete professional cameras but to survive in the market this should make Pro grade compact cameras with Android operating system as well as this should also include computational photography technology by including multiple camera module in one, to generate DSLR like images. The only way to survive in this ever changing market is to adapt the new changes as quickly as possible.

 Canon Q3 financial results – Profit and Sales Down Canon need some wonder products to recover its sales and gain some profit. This year again due to the low sales compacts camera & laser printers and they suffered from loss in the Canon Q3 2016 Financial Results.

Under these conditions, the yen, which at one point in August fell below the 100 yen-to-U.S. dollar mark and remained high throughout the quarter, had a large negative impact on net sales and profits. On top of this, within our businesses, sales of laser printer consumables declined significantly, as they did in the first half of the year, and for cameras, we recorded a 50% decline in compact camera sales. As a result, net sales and profits declined

Recently, Canon USA laid off Rudy, a key figure and the face of Canon USA in most announcements over the past few years as well as he was also Canon’s Technical advisor. This layoff is part is not only limited to Rudy, Canon has let go of multiple staff members. The question arises: why has this happened and what was the actual reason behind that ?
Decline in Operating Profit
It was kind of a backfire. Canon suddenly saw a loss of approximately 5% in operating profit compared to the previous year. This is the first time in four years that the profit declined compared to the same period the previous year. What was more devastating is that camera sales dropped for the first time in 2024 in the past 13 years. For Canon, their operating profit was on a downhill path.
what was the actual reason behind that ?
The main issue lies with the Canon policies that they adopted after 2018 during the mirrorless transition. Users were kept waiting for them to open their mount. Some were using the previous DSLR lenses with the help of an adapter, but more or less, by 2023 and 2024, consumers felt that Canon had no intention to open their mount freely to third-party lens makers. This led to great disappointment among them, and now they have started losing their consumer base and loyal customers.
What It Means
So, the 5% decline in operating profit is just the beginning. If Canon fails to provide an open lens mount to its consumer base, its profit will continue on a downhill path. Layoffs, whether of Rudy or anyone else in their camera division, are not the solution. The most important requirement at this time is for Canon to adapt its policies to meet consumer expectations and regain their trust.

So, we have now the Canon financial results for Q4 2022. According to the report by Canon, the imagine (camera) division of CanonIn Q3, enjoying double-digit growth in unit sales, driven by higher product supply and new models, and the recently announced EOS R7 and R10, leading to significant revenue increase with lens sales.

- Demand for cameras remains solid, even amid economic slowdown, thanks to the launch of new mirrorless models and interchangeable lenses by each company. As a result, we expect the market in 2022 to be 5.45 million units, a slight increase compared to last year.
- In the third quarter, thanks to the higher volume of product supply and the addition of new models, namely the EOS R7 and EOS R10, mirrorless cameras that incorporate APS-C size sensors, we posted double-digit growth in unit sales, and coupled with an increase in lens sales, a significant increase in overall revenue.
- Regarding our unit sales projection for the full year, we maintained our previous projection of 2.8 million units as we will not be able to supply enough products to meet demand. Going forward, we will continue to stimulate demand by steadily strengthening our lineup of EOS R series mirrorless cameras.
- Cameras that incorporate full-frame sensors, like the EOS R5 and EOS R6, continue to enjoy strong support from professionals and advanced amateurs. Additionally, the 2 new cameras that incorporate APS-C size sensors, with their light-weight and small form factor appeal, are encouraging users who want to enjoy serious photography to switch from SLR cameras or step up from entry models.
- We have also expanded our range of RF lenses to 32 models, providing users a variety of options.
- Going forward, we will continue efforts to expand our market share and maintain high profitability by building a more robust EOS R system lineup

This could mean that the new model may have features aka specifications that will appeal to a broader range of users, beyond just professionals and advanced amateurs. The goal may be to increase the popularity of interchangeable lens cameras and bring in new users who previously used other types of cameras or who have not used a camera before. So, it clearly indicates that Canon will refresh the entry-level EOS R Mirrorless line-up, so we can expect either the arrival of base models like Canon R50 / R100 as rumored earlier or EOS R Mark II / Canon R8 or maybe a mixed bag of announcements to appeal wide consumer base.

Based on the financial results for the period from April to June 2019. Nikon operating profit is now down to 50%. In the consolidated financial results for the April-June period 2019 announced by Nikon on the 6th of this month [August 2019]. The company’s net profit decreased by 50% year-on-year to 8.2 billion yen.
The Total sales of interchangeable lens cameras, including mirrorless cameras, decreased by 21% to 450,000 units.
Mr. Masashi Oka said, “The digital camera market is getting worse and the business performance in the second quarter and thereafter is becoming more uncertain.”
