Canon to Use Sony 26MP APS-C Sensor

X-Trans sensor

According to latest rumors coming from from trusted rumor Mills, Canon will use 26 megapixel Sony IMX 571  APS-C sensor in its upcoming flagship APS-C DSLR and Mirrorless cameras.

So, for now you can safely assume that Canon 7D Mark III sensor will be designed by Canon, but manufactured by Sony. It will be a win win situation for consumers since we will be getting Canon color science and DPAF technology on Sony’s Dynamic range and low-light performance.

As we all know Sony do make sensors based on their clients need, based on rumors we already know that Fuji is also using IMX571  26 megapixel X-Trans CMOS sensor for its Fuji XT 3 camera.

We will update you soon as we get any new information

Canon High-End APS-C DSLR Announcement in 2019 is almost confirmed. Canon Registered a Pro APS-C DSLR camera with model code K435. We do expect that Canon will soon Canon 7D Mark III to replace Canon 7D Mark II. The Canon 7D II is completely outdated and discontinued.

Canon 7D Mark III Registration Details

  • Single-lens reflex camera

  • Battery level indication is displayed in 4 levels
  • Maximum image size of test machine: 6000 × 4000

Canon postponed its DSLRs announcements in 2018 to promote sales of Canon Mirrorless camera.  But now they already have two APS-C DSLRs registered in wireless certification agency model code (K435 and K436) and above all 7D II model is no longer in production.

So, it’s very clear from the details we are getting from highly trusted sources that Canon already have a Pro APS-C DSLR in its announcement pipeline which is scheduled to arrive in the year of 2019. Canon already cleared the space by discontinuation of Canon 7D Mark II camera.

Canon EOS R Camera Covers 22% Market Share in Japan

After Canikon announcement Sony market share rapidly dropped from 100% to 67%. More surprisingly despite of  announcing Nikon Z6 and Nikon Z7 Mirrorless camera Nikon market share remains limited  to 10.4% only, May be due to the shipment of Nikon Z6 haven’t started yet (will start from next month). Take a look at the graph and stats below

Full frame mirrorless market share breakdown (Japan):

  1. Sony 67%
  2. Canon 22.1%
  3. Nikon 10.4%

Canon EOS R fullframe Mirrorless sales are up for now at-least, and it would be more interesting to see how EOS R performs in next few months and will Canon add more Camera in Fullframe line-up in next few months to increase its sales ?

Well, if you look at Specs comparison or Video mode Canon EOS R in general fails to match the features competitors giving at the moment. The Canon EOS R doesn’t have built-in IS, the 4K video mode is 1.74x cropped and it have only one card slot.

But why it is selling like hotcakes ? Nikon and Sony should do a little research to find out ? BTW, what believe is usability is one of the most important factor for a person like me. With EOS R you are getting 5K+ AF points for blazing fast AF performance, I do videos (vlog) as well as still stuff. So, a Vari-angle screen is a must have feature for me at least which competitors missing at the moment.

We will update you once again when the shipping of camera starts from Next month.

Canon Patent - DSLRs with In-Body Image Stabilization

After a little research we have found that Canon is also working to implement image stabilization in its DSLRs. Earlier Canon had a policy against IBIS on DSLR but from a recent patent it’s look like their policy now changed. And now they are working to implement image stabilization system to DSLRs

For more details you can read these translated text coming straight out from Japanese patent.

Translated text from patent

An exchangeable lens device that is attachable to and detachable from an image capturing apparatus includes two types of lens devices, i.e., a lens device including an image stabilizing mechanism that corrects camera shake generated due to a user’s hand shake and a lens device not including the image stabilizing mechanism. The image stabilizing mechanism corrects the camera shake by moving an optical system. The lens device including the image stabilizing mechanism can correct camera shift-shake in a direction orthogonal to an optical axis (hereinafter, simply referred to as camera shift-shake), but cannot correct camera roll-shake in a direction of rotation about an axis in parallel with the optical axis (hereinafter, simply referred to as camera roll-shake).

To correct the camera roll-shake, an image sensor of the image capturing apparatus needs to be rotated. In this context, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2011-095467 discusses an image shake correction device having a rotational substrate, fixedly holding the image sensor, supported by a fixing portion via a rotation shaft. The image shake correction device discussed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2011-095467 requires a supporting mechanism for the rotation shaft for rotating the image sensor. The image shake correction device discussed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2011-095467 only focuses on correcting the camera roll-shake, and thus if the attached lens device does not include a shift-shake correcting mechanism, the camera shift-shake cannot be corrected with such a configuration
