Canon new Stacked CMOS Sensor patent surfaced over the web. Before, we begin let me tell you that Sony A9 was the World’s first FF camera with stacked CMOS sensor inside it. Stacked CMOS sensor allows you to process the entire data 25% more faster than of Conventional CMOS sensor. And that’s the Sony A9 camera is able to processor 24MP files @ 20 frames per second.
Canon Patent Stacked CMOS Sensor
We also hope that Upcoming Canon camera will have more improved AF and data transfer speed. Not only Stacked CMOS sensor, Canon doesn’t have a Fullframe BSI CMOS sensor. And they are also working on it (See here).
We do hope that Canon will soon bring more advance version of DPAF / Stacked or BSI technology in coming flagship cameras.
Canon attending this year CES event and you can check at Central Hall 16206 from Jan 9-12, 2018 at Las Vegas NV. Last Year the center of attraction was 2 MP Canon Low light monster and Canon 250MP APS-H sensor. In general Canon announces / updates power shot series in January. So, we are also expecting new product announcement this year. You can check latest rumors here and also see list of upcoming Canon camera in 2018.
Well its not a rumor, its a prediction by Veteran photographer / Youtuber Tony Northup. He also did perfect predicitons in the past and so this time we Can’t ignore him.
According to him Canon will announce a Fullframe Mirrorless camera by having name M3 with same sensor as of Canon EOS 5D Mark IV camera and 4K (cropped as canon usually do).
At first Canon will announce 3 to 4 lenses for its FF Mirrorless camera along with a adapter for Canon DSLR lenses. The price of the upcoming camera is rumored to be somewhere around $3.4K.
TheNewCamera Exclusive – Yes, Canon is working on 4/3 format sensor as well as 12-385mm F1.8-4.0 Lens for its upcoming camcorder.
This particular patent silently confirms that Canon is also somehow joining the 4/3 format race. I personally think, instead of working on a single camcorder they should announce a 4/3 format based mirrorless series to compete against Panasonic and Olympus.
Take, a look look at the patent details below

According to latest rumors Canon will announce a 6K Cinema camera in 2018. As usual the camera will carry a dedicated 6K FF sensor and Triple Digic DV 6 or 7 image processor. The core specification of the camera isn’t know yet but as the rumor mill says, it will compete against the Sony CineAlta VENICE 6K camera.
We will update you son as we get any new information.
According to latest rumors Canon 7D Mark III camera is likely to arise sometime Summer of 2018. One of the biggest drawback of the existing 7D mark 2 camera (September 15, 2014) was, the limitation of Video recording in Full HD mode. IF you look around the competition all the Major competitors / flagship APS-C sensor based Mirrorless camera does record 4K video.
So, we do expect canon will desperately release APS-C flagship camera by having a 4K recording option in 2018 and a bit of advance core specs that matches the current competition.
Core specs of the camera isn’t available yet but we do expect Canon will include
