What to expect from Canon this Photokina 2018 ? We are getting hints from the beginning of the year, that several new products from Canon is coming. Some of the major name in the list includes arrival of Canon Fullframe Mirrorless and Canon 7D Mark III camera. Take a detailed list of products expected to arrive this Photokina 2018
1. Canon Fullframe Mirrorless
Based on latest rumors Canon Mirrorless camera is on hands of few selected photographers worldwide. That clearly indicates a big mirrorless announcement may happen soon, and as we have said in the past the best platform for announcement of such product is Photokina 2018.
So, we are almost confirmed that the one of the Fullframe camera model is having 30 MP DPAF sensor. The image processor inside the FF Mirrorless is expected to be Dual Digic 8 for sure. On Video 4K with C-log support is also expected.
2. Canon 7D Mark III
Canon 7D Mark II is overdue for an update and the Canon 7D Mark III announcement is expected at the end of 2018 sometime in 2019. based on latest rumors and the strategy followed by Canon for the year of 2018. It’s look like Canon 7D III isn’t coming anytime soon.
3. Canon EOS M5 Mark II
One more APS-C Mirrorless announcement is expected this year and we are hoping for next generation of APS-C flagship Canon EOS M-5 Mark II camera. As the Canon EOS M50 have limited 4K video mode with no DPAF support and additional 1.6X crop-factor over it. So, we are expecting Canon will pull out all those limitations in the upcoming APS-C flaghip camera. As for now we don’t have the exact date of arrival but we do expect its announcement before Photokina 2018.
4. Canon G7X Mark III
We have seen already a lot of hoax about the Canon G7X Mark III camera, we are almost confirmed that Canon G7X Mark III is one of the first Canon compact camera that have 4K video mode with DPAF support. The announcement of the camera is expected on Summer of 2018.
Canon 90D Update – Canon has registered two APS-C camera DSLRs at wireless registration agency. But, we are not expecting the announcement of Canon 90D this year, it is expected to arrive in the beginning or mid of 2019.
So, these are the set of cameras we are expecting on Photokina 2018. We will update this page whenever we get any new information.
This year many new names surfaced at TIPA awards, The DSLR category leader is Nikon with its Nikon D850 camera, well I was missing the presence of Canon 5D Mark IV and Best Fullframe Expert DSLR is Canon 6D Mark II. One more thing, I was expecting the name of Nikon D500 in Best APS-C DSLR Expert instead of Nikon D7500.
The Mirrorless section is being dominated by Sony with Sony A7R III camera. And Sony A7 III is able to make its position in Best Mirrorless Full-frame category. Canon also showed its presence with Canon EOS M50 camera.

According to latest rumors surfaced over the web, Canon is working on two different series of Fullframe mirrorless cameras, first they will announce High-End Mirrorless camera on Sep 2018 and after making 6 to 7 months of gap from pro mirrorless announcement they will introduce a new lower tier series camera to reach out more people. That clearly indicates the second (affordable) FF mirrorless announcement will happen in 2019 for sure.
Same strategy is being followed by Fuji and Sony, After Sony A9 ($4498 amazon.com) was announced back on April 2017 and once the sales number are reached to a certain point Sony introduced Sony A7 III ($1998 Amazon.com) camera on Feb 2018 with almost same core specs as of Sony A9 (Same sensor and same AF system) and all those with a price less than $2500 compared to Sony A9 flagship camera.
One more important thing that Source mentioned is “a really nice solution for EF lenses on the full frame mirrorless body” . That also silently confirms, no native EF Mount based Fullframe Mirrorless camera is coming.
TNC exclusive — Nikon is working to improve the image stabilization system of the DSLRs. And in near future we may see introduction of 5 axis Image stabilization inside Nikon DSLRs systems cameras and lenses. In the patent drawing above we can clearly see that Nikon DSLR with attached lens is able to feature 5axis IS.
Sony A99 II camera with 5 axis IS
As we have seen in other mirrorless cameras including Sony Mirrorless and Panasonic G series cameras. The X&Y axis and the roll that in general camera needs to compensate. And the Pitch and Yaw compensate by camera lenses.
So, to bring up 5 axis IS in DSLRs Nikon will may introduce Sensor based Image Stabilization, or a completely new series of Nikkor lens with built-in High end Image Stabilization.

Patent JP-225405
The present invention relates to a motion compensation device and optical instruments.
In the high magnification ratio shooting, but increases the influence of parallel shake, a typical shake correction system using only the angular velocity sensor, it is impossible to detect the parallel shake. Therefore, at the time of high magnification photographing a problem that blur correction accuracy is deteriorated.
To solve this problem, a triaxial acceleration sensor, by using the angular velocity sensor of the three axes calculates the position of the camera, calculating the gravitational acceleration component included in the output of the acceleration sensor, by removing the translational shake component only by calculating, by correcting a technique for improving the shake correction accuracy at the time of high magnification photographing (Patent Document 1) it has been proposed. This is based on the output of the six-axis sensor, and requests the displacement of the parallel shake.
Nikon filed patent for Electronic View Finder for Mirrorless camera. As we are getting regular reports from rumor mills, Nikon is expected to announce new series of mirrorless camera in near future. Nikon also registered two different camera at Indonesian wireless agency and the model codes of the camera are N1710 and N1711 Digital cameras. In general Nikon uses N16xx model codes for their DSLRs, so we are expecting the N17XX model codes may represent new line of Mirrorless cameras.
