Popular YouTuber Armando Ferreira spoke with Jay, Sony’s FX line product manager, about the Sony FX2. When asked why it only offers 1.3× and 1.5× anamorphic desqueeze, Jay said Sony’s adding more options—an upcoming firmware update will even bring 1.5× to the FX3 and FX30, with more to come.
He also talked about open-gate shooting. Jay knows it’s great for anamorphic work and social-media formats, but Sony prioritizes core professional features over simple 6K-to-4K cropping. He didn’t promise a release date but hinted that open-gate could arrive via future firmware updates.
Interviewer: You know, I said this in my video. This is obviously you guys designed this. It’s a cinema camera. Why has Sony only given us 1.3x and 1.5x anamorphic D squeeze? Now, I got to talk. We got to get a little juicy here with the questions because I know people are going to ask, “How come you didn’t talk about open gate?” Yep. I know people are going to ask that. So, what’s up everybody? Um, I’m here with a special guest, Jay, who is the product manager of the Sony FX line. And I want to thank you, Jay, for driving down to the Condor.
Jay: So first of all on the FX 3 and the FX30 we already announced the firmware update road plan and I think in the summertime you will receive firmware update will support 1.5. Nice. I think for now this camera only support 1.3 and 2.0. I think it’s just a firmware thing and down the road I’m not surprised this camera will receive some firware support more like or more anamorphic. Right. Right. Right. Oh, well, if if you guys can, this is more of a request. Yeah. And I think a lot of people agree with me. If there’s a way that you can enter your own value. Yeah. Rather than making it like 1.3, 1.5, 2.0, just you can enter if you want 1.7. Yes. And just put enter your own value. And I think that would probably solve a lot of these. Yes.
Interviewer: Now, I got to talk we got to get a little juicy here with the questions because I know people are going to ask, “How come you didn’t talk about open gate?” Yep. I know people are going to ask that. So I do want to talk about open gate and why first of all why hasn’t Sony implemented open gate on other cameras and is and I don’t even know if you can answer this but if like is there is there a possibility that we’ll see that in future Sony cameras so basically there are two major benefit of the open gate number one is anamorphic application right number two will be the social media application with a two-frame crop right so I think like at the Sony especially on the cinema line we definitely see the value over the open gate in the anamorphic support that’s reason all our senior auto cameras have the open gate right we can use a PR mount accept all the anamorphic lens in the market right right so however on the social media on the on the level and I I know a lot of people doing that right but is maybe there’s a better alternative or there’s other way to do it because for example and how many people really need a 6K recording and crop into 4K. I mean, if we’re being honest, probably not very many. Not very many.
Jay: Is it’s is like I would say like the open gate thing in Sony’s aspect is really fulfill your want or provide what you need, right? And at a Sony and what we more look at is we will provide what you really need for the job and that’s the that’s the number one priority. We need to fulfill the professional users need. Gotcha. Okay. And is that does that mean because this is targeted for cinema and because cinema like you mentioned Alta City Alta like they have open gate is that maybe a possibility that later down the road these cameras will get a firmware up that that’s definitely a possibility right at right now I don’t have too much information right that’s fair and regarding on anamorphic on this level camera and you know there’s a lot of e-mount entry- level anamorphic lens right on the market now right so I think like they will cover some the need of that and also like it really depends on the future development if we can see definitely see more and more uh FX lineup work with sinota definitely I’m not surprised to see we will release something but at right now I don’t have information to confirm
According to the latest information we have, Sony has already registered two cameras in the wireless certification agencies, and the model codes are: WW084220 and WW697160. Specifically, one of the model codes is being manufactured in Sony Japan’s manufacturing plant, and the other in Sony Wuxi.
Sony A7V Almost Confirmed here is why
In the post that we published on May 28, 2025, we discussed briefly the Sony Wuxi plant. It is known for producing Sony semi-professional Alpha series cameras. Its highly likely that are working on the Sony A7V under model code WW084220, as the Sony A7 IV is significantly overdue for an update, making it a strong candidate for this model.
Sony Japan’s WW697160: FX3 Mark II or A7S Mark IV?
There’s another camera being built at Sony Japan—most likely a cinema-style model. Sony Alpha leaker Zhang Yi Fei dug into the model code WW697160 and uncovered three pro-level features that we’d missed. From those features, it’s clear that, aside from the WW084220 code (which is expected to be an A7-series model), this new model with its standout specs is probably either the Sony FX3 Mark II or the A7S Mark IV, the successor to the A7S Mark III.
5.1GHz Wi-Fi 6E + 80MHz Bandwidth
Purpose: Sustains 800Mbps+ data throughput for:
6K RAW over-the-air monitoring (min. 600Mbps)
4K/120p multi-client livestreaming
Constant: Photo-centric bodies max out at 200 Mbps (4K/30p)
23dBm Transmission Power (EIRP)
Purpose: Ensures 30m+ stable links in RF-noisy environments
256QAM Modulation
Purpose: Low-latency error correction for real-time focus pulling/audio sync
Now the user also explains why he thinks that the registered model WW697160 is not the A7 Mark V camera.
The first and foremost reason is the manufacturing location. The specific model code is being manufactured in Sony Japan, which used to be a manufacturing place for Sony’s flagship full-frame mirrorless cameras or the cinema line of cameras.
Then the Wi-Fi mismatch—the camera uses Wi-Fi 6E and not Wi-Fi 5, which has $25 extra production line cost, and in general, that’s what we have seen. The 6E 23 dBm power also drains the battery faster.
Sony FX3 Mark II & Sony A7 V Near the Horizon
So considering all the factors—that they are using a highly advanced Wi-Fi unit inside the camera, which is not that much usual in semi-professional mirrorless cameras like Sony A7 Mark V, and the production location, the production line and the typical serials—everything—then for sure, the registered model code WW697160 is expected to be the Sony FX3 Mark II camera or maybe the Sony A7S Mark IV. But since the rumor mill source has mentioned that the FX3 Mark II camera is almost ready to be announced, so we are ruling out the possibility of the arrival of the Sony A7S Mark IV camera here.
Updated Sony Camera Model Codes
Below is the updated list of Sony’s upcoming camera model codes, including recently registered and confirmed models, ordered by registration date (most recent first):
We already know that Nikon is planning to announce the Nikon Z9 Mark II camera before the Winter Olympics, so there is a huge possibility. We have also discussed the expected set of core specifications that will be included in the camera. One of the things that is almost confirmed is the arrival of the new Expeed 8 image processor inside the camera.

Nikon and Sony have announced firmware updates at the beginning of June 2025. Nikon added support for power zoom lenses in the Nikon Z6 Mark II and the Nikon Z7 Mark II cameras, and also fixed the touch autofocus functionality, which sometimes becomes unresponsive. The rest of the details you can see yourself in the Nikon section, and in Sony, we have an update for the compact cameras, which includes WEP2 as a connection option
Nikon has started distributing the latest firmware for the “Z 7II” and “Z 6II,” which is said to support power zoom lenses, add languages for the Middle East, and fix some bugs.
For the Middle East-targeted Z7II, русский (RU) has been added to the Setup Menu > Language.
The following phenomena have been fixed.
– When shooting after moving the focus point using [Touch AF], shooting may not be possible or the continuous shooting speed may slow down.
– When monitor mode was set to [Finder Priority 2], the camera would unintentionally switch from the playback screen to the shooting screen.
– When monitor mode was set to [Finder Priority 2], the focus point may not be displayed when returning from half-press timer off.
– When a wireless remote controller was connected and linked release was performed, the remote camera may not take pictures.

Sony has started distributing the latest firmware for the ” VLOGCAM ZV-1F ” and ” VLOGCAM ZV-1M2 “. Both will be limited to high-security Wi-Fi connections, so it appears that the “WPA” and “WEP” functions will no longer be available.
“WPA” and “WEP” functions are no longer supported. You can no longer select “WPA” or “WEP” when connecting to Wi-Fi. Please use “WPA2” from now on, which has higher security.

According to Jan Wegener (and he is 100% correct all the time), the Canon R6 Mark III camera will arrive in Q4 of 2025. The main surprise is the Megapixel bump in resolution, as per Jan’s expectation, the camera may use a 30.3MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor, lets have a look in the details what does Jan tell us about the upcoming Canon R6 Mark III camera
Here is what Jan Wegener said about the Canon R6 Mark III in his Latest Video
Canon R6 Mark III Release Date and Megapixel Upgrade Rumors
… And interestingly, it seems like that the R6 Mark III is not imminent. There will be an announcement probably in Q4 of 2025. And what I found the most interesting is that it said that the camera would get a megapixel bump. So it wouldn’t be 24 megapixel anymore and something more than that, which I thought was very interesting because that could instantly make the R6 Mark III also an R5 Mark II killer, especially if it’s a cheaper camera with maybe somewhere in the 30 megapixel range.
Why 30 Megapixels Could Be the Sweet Spot for Canon R6 Mark III
Cuz I think for many people that 30 megapixel range still feels like the sweet spot. Would you agree?
Canon R6 Mark III Sensor Technology: Stacked vs Non-Stacked Sensor Debate
But that got me thinking if Canon really gives a megapixel bump to the R6 Mark III and to be able to differentiate it from the R5 Mark II, does Canon then maybe not give the R6 Mark III a stacked sensor and rather a fast readout non-stacked sensor that probably would have a very high image quality even at those high ISO levels.
Pros and Cons of Stacked and Non-Stacked Sensors on Canon R6 Mark III
I can definitely see that being the case and I think I wouldn’t even be totally opposed to it. The stacked sensors are nice, but they also come with some drawbacks, especially when it comes to the image quality. Now, for video, it would be nice to have no rolling shutter at all or very little rolling shutter. But if it’s true that the camera gets more megapixels, I think it not being a stacked sensor would be a lot more likely.
Would you actually be happy with an R6 Mark III that has more megapixels but a non-stacked sensor?
Canon R6 Mark III Price Expectations
I think for many people this could actually make it a super interesting camera, especially if it still comes in below that $3,000 price point because it would suddenly give us such a great all-round camera that would also be fantastic for nature photography and would have a little bit more scope for cropping.
When Will Canon R6 Mark III Be Announced? Rumored Q4 2025 Launch
An announcement in Q4 2025 would be exactly 3 years after the R6 Mark II was announced and I think that would make a lot of sense even if the camera only starts shipping maybe in 2026.
