Firmware Update

Nikon Z9 II Expected in 3-6 Months: Major ZR Firmware Updates Confirmed

Nikon Z9 Mark II camera rumours are not new. However, we have published an article back on January 7, 2026, where we clearly denied the possibility of the announcement of the Z9 Mark II camera during the Winter Olympics. At that time, most of the major rumor mills and outlets were claiming that the camera was about to arrive during the Winter Olympics games, but we had short confirmation at that time via trusted sources. The camera isn’t coming that soon. The expected announcement date that we discussed in that post was the fourth quarter of 2026 at its earliest arrival possibility.

New update: a new update is coming from the popular Nikon YouTuber Matt Irwin (thatnikonguy), who has reported that the current Nikon Z9 is now completely out of stock and listed as “on backorder” on Nikon Australia’s official website – and similar stock issues are appearing globally.

Such a stock shortage issue for a flagship camera isn’t a common one, and even if it happens, camera makers like Nikon and Canon issue an apology letter for not fulfilling the market demand. We have seen multiple examples in the past. It’s a clear indication that the production line has been occupied by something else.

Why the Nikon Z9 Stock Situation Matters

The Nikon Z9, launched in late 2021, has been Nikon’s flagship mirrorless camera for over four and a half years. At a price point of approximately AUD $10,000 in Australia, it is not the kind of camera that Nikon normally leaves unavailable for long.

Matt Irwin estimates

He estimates we could see the Nikon Z9 II hardware in customers’ hands within a maximum of 6 months, with a possible development announcement coming at any time.

Importantly, Matt believes no Nikon Z8 Mark II camera is NOT coming soon,  the Nikon Z8 will continue to sell strongly for another 1–2 years, meaning the current stock clearance is focused specifically on clearing the Z9 line for its replacement, not a general sensor shortage.

What’s Next from Nikon in 2026

2026 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting years for the Nikon Z system:

  • Z9 II is likely arriving soon
  • Multiple ZR firmware updates
  • New cinema lenses on the horizon
  • Possible first look at the next-generation Expeed 8 processor

Nikon ZR Gets Major Firmware Love – Official Confirmation from NAB 2026

Nikon itself is proactively working to enhance the user experience. Nikon has openly confirmed that multiple firmware updates are already in development for the Nikon ZR cinema-style camera.

Speaking at NAB 2026, Nikon representative “Jeff with a G” told creators:

  • Nikon is actively listening to customer feedback.
  • The company is working on a couple of major updates for the ZR (not just one).
  • Key improvements confirmed include:
    • New Log 3G10 profile paired with H.265
    • Significant improvements to the existing H.265 codec (addressing widespread user complaints)
    • Focus peaking in red while using N-Log and RED NE
    • And so much more.”

Additional possibilities mentioned include ProRes 422 LT and potentially RED NE LT versions, depending on processing capability.

Why This Matters for Creators

At its current street price of around USD $2,000–2,150 (AUD ~$3,000), the Nikon ZR already offers extraordinary value with internal Nikon RAW, ProRes RAW, and RED RAW recording in a compact body. These upcoming firmware updates will make it an even stronger tool for filmmakers, YouTubers, and documentarians.

Yes, we are tracking the Nikon Z9 II camera announcement news, as soon as we get any latest updates we will be publishing here soon.

Canon R6V – Specifications and Arrival Date 2026

Nikon Z9 II Rumors: 2026 Release Date Delayed – Will It Miss the Winter Olympics and World Cup?

As Nikon lovers, we are waiting for the Nikon Z9 II camera, but the fresh information coming related to the Z9 Mark II indicates a potential delay in its release date. Originally, the Nikon Z9 II camera development announcement was planned for late 2025 or early 2026, but the announcement may slip even further, not only missing the Olympics, but it may also miss the FIFA World Cup event, which is going to happen in June and July. For sure, we may see some glimpse of the camera in the hands of professionals during the FIFA World Cup, but still the official announcement is likely to happen in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The Nikon Z9, launched in 2021, set a high bar with its stacked CMOS sensor, blackout-free shooting, and pro-grade video capabilities. Its successor, the Z9 II, is expected to build on this foundation, incorporating advancements from Nikon’s recent RED acquisition and improved AI-driven features. However, according to a trusted source, while Nikon has been diligently working on the Z9 II with “bits and pieces of information trickling in,” key components are arriving later than planned. This could push the release beyond initial expectations, with some reports now eyeing a post-March 2026 debut.

Why the Nikon Z9 II Delay?

The Nikon Z9, announced back in 2021, already created a very high bar with the introduction of a stacked sensor and completely blackout-free shooting. Not only that, the Z9 camera also carries pro-grade video capabilities. Now, it is time for the Nikon Z9 Mark II. According to trusted sources, Nikon is working tirelessly on the Z9 Mark II camera, and if you keep this in mind, all the bits of information we are receiving suggest that the announcement date can be pushed beyond our initial expectations.

But what is the exact reason behind this delay, and why the announcement is being rescheduled, is still unclear. Industry whispers suggest that the Z9 II is “still moving forward,” but delays in procuring essential components—such as advanced sensors or processors—have slowed its progress.

According to the inside information we are receiving, the launch has been further delayed due to ongoing technological development. This is all we know so far from theinformation shared by the source.

Impact on 2026 Events: Olympics, World Cup, and Prototype Sightings

Nikon never announces any product in a hurry. They do intensive testing before the launch, and specifically if a major technological upgrade is coming inside a camera, they are going to take as much time as possible to ensure each and everything is working as perfectly as they want it to.

Now that said, we have to keep an eye on the prototypes, specifically during the FIFA World Cup, as that’s the best place for Nikon engineers to collect real-world data, and this is not new. This tactic has been used before, as we have already seen pre-launch Nikon Z9 testing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Nikon Next Announcement in August - September 2025

Nikon ZR image

Update on: 6:36 pm, Friday, 26 December 2025, Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)

The Nikon ZR camera has already been mentioned in our earlier article. The Nikon Z9 Mark II is currently expected to arrive in 2026, alongside the Nikon Z7 Mark III camera. The full-frame camera announcement timeline for both models is expected to be almost the same.

The Nikon Z9 Mark II is expected to carry a 45MP enhanced sensor. At this moment, it is still not entirely clear what “enhanced” exactly means, since it is already a stacked sensor, while the Nikon Z7 Mark III is expected to feature a higher-resolution sensor, possibly 61MP or even 80MP. Nikon wants to clearly define and separate its lineup.

If someone wants a higher-resolution sensor for better dynamic range, landscape photography, or commercial work, they can opt for the Nikon Z7 Mark III. On the other hand, if someone wants speed, reliability, resolution, and all-in-one flagship-level performance, they can go with the Nikon Z9 Mark II.

Some unverified YouTube channels are spreading rumors that the Nikon Z9 Mark II will arrive with a higher-resolution sensor, which could overlap with the Z7 series. This is not true. The Nikon Z7 Mark III has its own clear position, and it is expected to arrive in 2026.

It’s already 3 months since the registration of the Nikon N2410 Model (the camera was registered back in April 2025). Generally, camera makers like Nikon announce their products 3 – 4 months after registration in the wireless certification agency, so we can expect the Nikon Camera announcement of August – September 2025

N2410 registration details show that it’s not an entry-level model. It supports 5 gigahertz of Wi-Fi bandwidth, so if a camera supports 5 gigahertz of Wi-Fi bandwidth, then without a doubt, it’s an FX series or DX series premium camera.

Based on Rumors – The Next Announcement: Nikon

If we take a look at the list of upcoming Nikon cameras in 2025 and 2026, then we have two different sets of probabilities:

  • Z9 Mark II camera: The first probability is the development announcement of the Nikon Z9 Mark II camera in late 2026. Its announcement is expected to happen before the 2026 Winter Olympics.
  • Nikon ZR / Z video camera: The name is not confirmed yet, said to use the same partially stacked CMOS sensor that we have seen in the Nikon Z6 III camera. Right now, check more details about the Nikon ZR
  • Nikon Z7 III is long long-rumored camera, and it’s also in the announcement pipeline of Nikon, the camera is also expected to arrive with a 61MP sensor. More details here

So, as per the latest set of rumors, we have all three of these cameras expected to arrive in Q4 of 2025 and Q1 of 2026, as we get any information related to that we will post it soon.

Nikon Next Registration N24XX

One more Nikon camera in the registration pipeline: According to the latest rumours we have from a trusted source E88_8888, Nikon is about to register a new camera in the Chinese wireless certification agency. Once the model code and other details are revealed, we will be publishing a post soon on our website.

Nikon Upcoming Camera 2025 – 2026

Nikon Z9 Mark II Specification [Updated], Coming with Pre-Capture RAW

nikon Z9 II Image

Nikon Z9 Mark II camera is coming with Pre-Capture RAW and more and updated core specs, but before that, let’s have a look we have already posted a few things related to the Nikon Z9 Mark II camera, starting from the fact that

  1. we already have a confirmed set of information. Next, after the Nikon ZR announcement, the next announcement from Nikon is the Nikon Z9 Mark II camera.
  2. And this will happen alongside the Canon R1, which is also expected to arrive before the 2026 Winter Olympics.
  3. Nikon is also working on N-Log2, which is about to be introduced in the Nikon ZR and will be followed up with the Nikon Z9 Mark II camera.
  4. Several Nikon cameras with the EXPEED 7 image processor will get the N-Log2 update.
  5. The Z9 Mark II camera will also get a new image processor — the EXPEED 8.

So this is the bunch of information we have already published related to the Nikon Z9 Mark II camera. Now we have more glimpses of information, specifically related to the Pre-Capture RAW mode is coming to Nikon Z9 II — the feature that is a kind of must-have for professionals, specifically those who love wildlife and sports photography.

The Pre-Capture RAW Mode

The Nikon Z9 is the flagship camera right now, but it’s stuck with JPG pre-capture at 30 frames per second, leaving serious professional photographers a bit disappointed since the Nikon Z8 recently received a major firmware update (v3.0), in which users can easily enable pre-capture in their camera.

The big question: Why is the Nikon Z9 flagship falling behind the Z8? Experts like Thom Hogan and Jan Wagener are sounding alarms over this — is Nikon playing their favourite game or planning something huge? Let’s dive into the details.

Is Nikon risking fan loyalty for a big reveal?

“Nikon’s top-end camera is behind the times!” That’s the bold warning from photography expert Thom Hogan in his June 12, 2025, article “The Z9 Dissonance” on bythom.com. He’s upset that the $4,000 Z8 got pre-capture RAW, while the $5,500 Z9 didn’t. Hogan says, “The goodwill Nikon built with early Z9 updates… will be erased unless we see a Z9 6.0 firmware soon.” He thinks Nikon’s saving big features for the Z9 II, but this could upset Z9 fans who paid top dollar.

Nikon Z9 II with Global Shutter Sensor?

Experts like Robert G Allen (May 2025) say the Z9 II, coming late 2025, will bring 40 fps RAW shooting, a faster sensor, and pre-capture RAW. This isn’t just a camera—it’s a revolution! Rumors of a hybrid global shutter add fuel to the fire. The Z9 II aims to crush competitors, making it a dream for pros shooting action.

Nikon Z9 II specification from most authentic sources / People who are directly connected with the brand, still there is a BIG chance they may be talking about a working prototype of the flagship camera that may or may not get selected for production line.

Nikon Z9 II Specification [Updated]

  • 45 MP Global Shutter Sensor [Rumored]
  • Pre-Capture RAW mode support [Confirmed]
  • New EXPEED 8 image processor [Confirmed]
  • 40 FPS RAW burst shooting (rumored)
  • 240 FPS full resolution JPEG
  • Faster image sensor (rumored)
  • Possible hybrid global shutter (rumored)
  • N-Log2 support [Confirmed]
  • Launch expected late 2025 (Development announcement)
  • Will launch alongside Canon R1
  • Aimed at wildlife and sports professionals

The Nikon Z8 is a fan favorite. With the same 45.7MP sensor as the Z9 but cheaper and smaller, it’s a hit. Its pre-capture RAW at 15 fps has Z9 owners jealous. Will the Z9 II be worth its higher price? Wegener warns, “The biggest dilemma Nikon faces is the Z8 and people expecting a Z8 II… Many will say, ‘Great camera, but I’ll wait for the Z8 II.’” If the Z9 II is a small upgrade, like the Canon R5 Mark II, fans might hold out for a cheaper Z8 II. Nikon must make the Z9 II a showstopper.

One of the things that is almost confirmed is the arrival of the new Expeed 8 image processor inside the camera.

In the latest update to the rumours, the rumour mill specifically mentioned that yes, we are still expecting the arrival of the Nikon Z9 Mark II camera at the end of or the very beginning of 2026. Nikon Z9 Mark II, Coming before 2026 Winter Olympics?

There has been talk that we will have the new Nikon Z9 Mark II camera before the 2026 Olympics. If you look at the trend in the past. We have witnessed that Nikon and Canon were usually seen announcing their flagship bodies before the Olympics. Now it’s almost 4 years since the Z9 — the original Z9 was announced before the 2022 ( before Winter Olympics). Just after that, Nikon Z8 was announced in May 2023, which carries approximately 90% of the same core specifications we have in this Z8., The Nikon Z8 announcement has also disturbed the sales cycle of the Nikon Z9 camera, and many professionals prefer to buy the Nikon Z8 instead of the Nikon Z9.

Matt Irwin (Nikon Pro) has said in one his recent video that there strong possibility “Winter Olympics is a long way off but of course it’s not it’s roughly a year away and thus that sort of time frame would make a lot of sense to me and it would get us back to a Olympic cycle which is something that Nikon kind of adhered to mostly adhered to through the DSLR flagship era…”

Table: Nikon Flagship Camera Releases and Olympic Connections

Olympic Event Year Nikon Flagship Camera Release Date Camera Type
Sydney Summer Olympics 2000 Nikon D1H February 2001 (announced 2000) DSLR

Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 Nikon Z9 October 2021 Mirrorless
Paris Summer Olympics 2024 Nikon Z9 (firmware updates) No new flagship (firmware updates in 2023–2024) Mirrorless
Milan/Cortina Winter Olympics 2026 Nikon Z9 II (rumored) Expected late 2025/early 2026 Mirrorless

The Winter Olympics will start from February 6 to February 22, in 2026, so there is a very high probability we will see the announcement of the Nikon Z9 Mark II camera in the 4th quarter of 2025, since it has to become available during the Olympics for shooting.

Nikon Z9 Mark II Camera Expected specification

  • A 45 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor inside the camera

  • Enhanced with Expeed 8 image processor, a lot of work can be done in the AI AF zone as well as in the performance part of the camera

  • Content Credentials: Support for authenticity features

A late 2025 announcement (development announcement rumored) with a release in early 2026 leaves a tight window for pros to adopt the Z9 II before the Olympics. Nikon’s rushed Z9 launch in 2021 faced criticism for incomplete features, later fixed via firmware, suggesting a need for thorough testing. Let’s see what they can bring in front of us in Z9 II.

Nikon Z9 II with 61 Mp Sensor Real or Fake ? Nikon Z5 II Coming Next...

According to the latest famous source from the website nikoneye, the upcoming Nikon Z92 camera is expected to carry a 61-megapixel stacked CMOS sensor from Sony, which is currently being used inside the Sony A7R5 camera. This information isn’t correct, as per the information we have the Nikon Z9 II uses an Expeed 8 image processor and the same 45Mp Stacked CMOS sensor, expected announcement Q4 of 2025.

But just before that, we published an article about upcoming Nikon cameras of 2025, and in that article, we very clearly mentioned that

  1. the Nikon Z9 II camera will have an improved Expeed 8 image processor, but the sensor will remain the same 45-megapixel stacked CMOS sensor which was first announced with the Z9 in the year 2021.
  2. Not only that, the same source mentioned that the Nikon Z5 II camera is coming very soon, with the most probable announcement due in the month of January 2025, and shipping will start sometime in the months of February or March.
