Fuji X-T5 vs Fuji X-H2S

The two cameras feature the latest X-Processor 5 engine and an APS-C sensor, but the specs of each are quite different from each other.

First, the X-H2 has 40.2MP, whereas the X-H2S has 26.1MP.

Finally, we have a Fuji X-T5 (XT series flagship camera) that uses the highest resolution sensor ever used in an APS-C Camera. Not only is it High resolution the sensor is made on BSI tech so you will also get a decent low-light performance from this sensor. The BEST part is, right now the X-T5 is the most affordable Fuji Camera to have a NEW 40MP BSI CMOS X-Trans APS-C sensor.

Now, the Fuji X-H2s is Fuji’s First model to feature a newly developed 26MP X-Trans STACKED sensor that is 3.6x faster than the single-layered BSI design in the X-T3 and 4. Now with the adoption of a Stacked CMOS sensor technology, the camera enjoys a significant speed boost sensor readout speed. The Major advantage we are getting in still part after having the new 26 MP Stacked CMOS sensor is it allows the camera to capture full-resolution images at up to 40 frames per second with full-time AF/AF support as well as you can capture 4K videos @ 120FPS.

Both of them use the new X-Processor PRO and the new X-Processor 5 is 65% faster than the previous generation of processors.

Fuji X-T5 a Best Budget 40MP Camera?

The Fuji X-T5 camera is the best budget camera with Fuji’s new 40MP sensor if ur limited to Wedding photography and fashion when you don’t need that much buffer and video. Then undoubtedly the best camera under budget is 40mp.

Faster sensor readout speed and Less resolution for better AF tracking

Fuji X-T5 uses a 40Mp non-stacked CMOS sensor, so sensor readout speed will be slow due to the absence of technology and also due to the higher resolution. So, if we talk about AF tracking and sensitivity despite having the same X-processor PRO inside them or maybe the same AI AF algorithms inside them, the Fuji X-H2s camera will do better object tracking compared to X-T5.

Fuji X-H2s Best Camera for wildlife and Sports Photography

AF speed may take a hit because the X-H2 can’t read out its sensor as fast as the ‘S’ model, though AF information usually comes from a faster, low-resolution readout, also the absence of Stacked tech.

Now, we have great news for those who love to do sports and wildlife, the camera is able to shoot up to 40FPS @ 26 MP [full resolution], yes we are talking about the Fuji X-H2s camera and not about the Fuji X-T5 with limited 15 FPS of burst mode and very limited buffer memory of  119 Jpeg.

Fuji X-H2s Buffer Memory Size

The Fuji X-H2s with the camera is able to shoot 184 JPEGs or 175 Raws at 40 fps and over 1000 JPEGs in 30fps or 15 fps modes, and 400 Raws at that lower speed.

No option to add an external fan to the new Fuji X-T5 camera

Best Cinema Camera the Fuji X-H2s

Why is Fuji X-H2s Considered to be a better cinema or video camera when both X-T5 and Z-H2S record MAX videos Res of 6.2K?

. The X-H2S can shoot 6.2K or 4K at up to 30p from 14-bit readout in its F-Log2 mode, the X-H2S uses an entire 26 MP sensor and u don’t have to face any crop till 4k 60fps mode. Additionally, the Fuji X-H2 supports external Fan input, so whenever you need an extra cooling mechanism for your camera you can use the external cooling fan.

In Fuji X-T5 we use a slower sensor that in turn will generate more heat and no option to cool down the camera, we don’t have any option to use an external fan with X-T5. Other than that if we talk about the video core specs, then the Fuji X-T5 camera does 4k, 24 & 30 fps oversampled readout with 1.22 x crop, and the camera uses pixel binning or line skipping algorithm while recording 4k 60fps.

In addition to internal H.264, H.265, and ProRes (422 HQ, 422 or 422 LT) capture, the X-H2S via its HDMI port can output a 6.2K or 4.8K Raw which can be further encoded as ProRes RAW by the Atomos Ninja V+ recorder or BRaw using a Blackmagic Video Assist 12G HDR.

Dual-Base ISO in Fuji X-H2s: We have high-gain and low-gain ISO circuits active while shooting a Flog2, with the help of Dual base ISO we will get more cleaner output compared to the conventional way of capturing videos.

The camera’s full-sized HDMI port conforms to v2.1 of the standard, meaning it can also output 4K/120p video in up to 10-bit 4:2:2.

No express type B Card option in the Fuji X-T5 camera, and the entire read-write process slows down that’s why the camera isn’t able to do full sensor readout or record images of more than 119 in a single burst, yes not only buffer memory the absence of CF Express card is also the reason behind these limitations.

Fuji X-T5 Press Release

N.Y., Nov. 02, 2022– FUJIFILM North America Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of the FUJIFILM X-T5 digital camera (X-T5), the latest addition to Fujifilm’s innovative line of X Series, X-T mirrorless digital cameras. Fujifilm brings its fifth-generation imaging sensor and processing technology to X-T5 in a camera body that is more compact than each of its previous three X-T system camera models1.

X-T5 is the latest X Series camera to feature Fujifilm’s new, powerful back-illuminated 40.2MP X-TransTM CMOS 5 HR imaging sensor and high-speed image processing engine, X-Processor 5. It also provides up to 7.0 Stops2 of 5-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS) and features a 3.69-million-dot EVF viewfinder with 0.8x magnification, and dual SD-card slots, delivering the highest image quality and resolving performance in the history of the X Series.

“X-T5 combines all the fan favorites in one body. This system offers IBIS in a compact and lightweight body – designed for portability which is at the core of our X-T system. We’re also reintroducing the 3-way tilt screen to create stills and video from any position,” said Masato Yamamoto, general manager, Imaging Solutions Division, FUJIFILM Corporation. “At Fujifilm, we continue to push the boundaries of camera technology with each new camera release. X-T5 is no exception – offering fantastic all-round performance for both stills and video.”

Features of X-T5 include:

Image quality and resolving performance

  • The new 40.2MP back-illuminated X-Trans CMOS 5 HR Imaging Sensor, with a state-of-the-art image processing algorithm, delivers advanced image resolution without compromising the signal to noise (S/N) ratio. This image processing algorithm delivers outstanding results, packed with detail across the native ISO range, which with X-T5 extends to ISO 125. Additionally, the Pixel Shift Multi-Shot feature allows photographers to make 160MP, super high-resolution images, while Subject Detection autofocus (AF) – capable of detecting animals, birds and a variety of other common subjects– combined with the auto white balance, will assist photographers of all levels with producing superb, high-quality images.
  • X-T5 offers 19 Film Simulation modes, including “Nostalgic Neg.,” characterized by high saturation and soft tonality. Creators can use Film Simulation presets, which mimic photographic film, for various subject types and scenes. X-T5 supports the HEIF image format, which delivers 10-bit image quality in files up to 30% smaller than standard JPEGs.

Hardware, design and operability that provides powerful support to users’ content creation

  • X-T5’s in-body image stabilization (IBIS) system, works in five axes, combats all types of camera movement, and provides up to seven stops of compensation which can continuously freeze 20 frames in a single click of the shutter. The dedicated software “Pixel Shift Combiner” processes the captured frames to generate an image containing some 160 million pixels.
  • A maximum electronic shutter speed of 1/180,000 sec is also now available for photographers wishing to freeze subjects moving at high speeds. The 1.84-million-dot, three-way tilting LCD makes it easy for users to create in vertical position or at waist level.
  • The new sensor offers a high number of phase detection pixels for impressive AF-S focus on a high-frequency subject, providing accurate autofocusing in situations such as landscape photography and portraiture. Also, the AF prediction algorithm offers stable focusing in AF-C mode.
  • Equipped with a high-magnification, 3.69-million-dot EVF with 0.8x magnification, the viewfinder delivers optimal suppression of parallax and distortion which typically occur when an eye position becomes displaced while using the viewfinder.
  • The classic X Series design has been retained with dials for ISO, shutter speed and exposure compensation – quick and easy to set, even with the camera switched off. Weighing just 1.23 lbs. (557g) 3, X-T5 is 50g lighter than the prior FUJIFILM X-T4 digital camera model and is perfect for a wide variety of photographic genres from street / documentary photography, where mobility is a requirement, to landscape photography and portraiture, which require particularly high resolution. Portability coupled with the camera’s weather-resistant structure allow users to take X-T5 into nearly any weather conditions.

Featuring extended video functions

  • Offering powerful video functionality, movies can be recorded internally at up to 6.2K/30p in 4:2:2 10-bit color. In addition, the 4K HQ mode oversamples 6.2K footage for superior 4K output. X-T5 supports F-Log2, which records an expansive dynamic range of 13+ stops—a range wider than that provided by current F-Log– for extremely broad post-production potential.
  • When combined with an ATOMOS HDMI device, the RAW video output from X-T5 can be recorded as 12-bit Apple ProRes RAW at frame sizes up to 6.2K and frame rates up to 29.97fps. And when combined with Blackmagic Design Video Assist 12Gs, the RAW video output from the X-T5 can be recorded as Blackmagic RAW at frame sizes up to 6.2K and frame rates up to 29.97fps.

Optional accessories

  • MHG-XT5 hand grip (specifically designed for X-T5): This grip facilitates the users’ ability to hand-hold the camera when a large-aperture lens is mounted. The hand grip does not have to be removed to change a battery or SD card. In addition, the MHG-XT5 grip can be used as a plate compatible with the Arca-Swiss quick release system.

Pricing and Availability

X-T5 will be available in black and silver colors and is expected to be available in late November, at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $1699.95 Body Only ($2,299.99 CDN). The difference in BASE ISO Range

So, with such a little difference in the base ISO range, we don’t expect much difference in the performance of both cameras. Yes, under LAB TEST results we may see some difference in DR due to the minor difference we have in the base ISO range, but in real-world usage, we won’t be able to spot any difference.

Buffer Limitation

Fuji X-T5 is able to save only 119 Jpeg in single bursts whereas the Fuji X-H2 camera is able to save up to 1000+ Jpeg in a single burst. CF CFexpress Type B also missing in the new X-T5.

Video Limitations of X-T5

The high resolution on the sensor allows the X-H2 to record 8K up to 30p (RAW  available). You can also select 6.2K video up to 30p. In 4K, you can work up to 30p with oversampling from 8K, or up to 60p with sub-sampling. In Full HD, the frame rate goes up to 240p with the High-Speed mode. With the Fuji X-T5 camera, you can record Full HD Videos up to 240fps but the MAX Video resolution available here is 6.2K video up to 30p. Undoubtedly the X-H2 is a better video camera with more features compared to X-T5.

No External Fan Support in Fuji X-T5 Camera

If you live in a western country then it’s ok, but in Asian countries where the temp goes really high in the summer season, X-T5 is left with no option to add an external fan to the camera due to the introduction of a tilting screen.

The ports of the camera and display screen are more or less likely to be the same.
