America’s consumers are mostly dependent on foreign drones, which the USA administration believes, and that’s why, even after completely banning new DJI drones back in December 2025, they are not stopping there. New rules have been updated for military drones, and now, according to the new rules, many DJI consumer-grade drones, including the NEO 2, are considered military-grade and are about to be banned, as we have already clearly mentioned in the previous article.
And now the next move: they have taken a major step to match the price of US-based drones to Chinese ones; already, all the drones we are purchasing have a 25% tariff over it. Some consumer-grade models will face 25% more tariff, approx 50%.
And some of the prosumer already-approved models, which are about to be banned soon in between September 2026 – March 2027, will face approx 100% tariff increase.
A clear price increase is coming for popular DJI drones in the US
….. and it has nothing to do with the proposed LiDAR ban.
Current Tariff Situation (Right Now)
China-origin drones such as the DJI Mini 4 Pro and DJI Neo 2 are already paying approximately 25% tariff under existing Section 301 rules.
- Base duty: 0%
- Section 301 tariff: +25%
- Upcoming proposed traiff ≈ +25% ( tariff 100% for drones with thermal imaging)
What Changes from September 3, 2026
President Trump’s new Section 232 tariff will add an extra duty on imported drones. The rate depends on the type of drone:
| Type of Drone |
New Additional Tariff |
Total Duty After Sept 3 |
| Smaller consumer drones (25 kg or less, without thermal imaging) |
+25% |
~50% |
| Larger or sensitive drones (over 25 kg or with thermal imaging) |
+100% |
~125% |
Which Drones Fall Under Which Category?
25% additional tariff (Total ~50%) applies to:
- DJI Mini 4k
- DJI Neo 2
- Almost all DJI drones
- Most Mini series, Air series (non-thermal versions), and other regular consumer drones under 25 kg without thermal cameras
100% additional tariff (Total ~125%) applies to:
- Drones with maximum takeoff weight over 25 kg
- Any drone that has thermal imaging capability
- Docking stations and certain critical components of these drones
How Much Will Prices Actually Rise?
The new tariff is charged on the import value. In practice, most of the extra cost is passed on to buyers.
Expected impact on popular models (25% category):
| Model |
Current Approx. Price |
Expected Price After New Tariff |
Rough Increase |
| DJI Mini 4k (base) |
$200 – $259 |
$250 – $370 |
+15% to 25% |
| DJI Neo 2 (drone only) |
~$259 |
$310 – $340 |
+20% to 30% |
| Neo 2 Fly More Combo |
~$429 – $450 |
$520 – $570 |
+20% to 25% |
Drones that fall under the 100% category (thermal or heavy models) will see a much steeper price jump.
Critical Point: This Price Hike Comes First
There is a separate FCC proposal that may restrict drones with LiDAR or thermal sensors. That proposal is still under discussion and is not final.
The new tariff, however, is already confirmed and starts affecting new imports from approximately September 3, 2026.
In short:
- The tariff-driven price increase is locked in.
- It will start in early September.
- This will happen before any possible LiDAR-related restrictions.
So, these are some important points to consider before you postpone your next drone purchase.
-
- Drones already in the US are not charged the new tariff.
- New stock arriving after early September will cost more.
- Some sellers may raise prices even before September 3.
If you are planning to buy a Mini 4k, Neo 2, or similar consumer drone in the United States, the lower-price window is closing quickly.

Finally, the FCC is now planning to impose a retroactive ban on DJI, which means existing drones announced by DJI in previous years will be massively affected. Not one, two, or three models, but a series of models that are capable of using LiDAR sensors inside them, since according to the FCC, drones that are using LiDAR sensors for obstacle avoidance can also be used for military purposes, and that’s why they are dangerous for the United States of America.
And not only two or three models will be affected, as they mentioned in the FCC document. As I have said, a series of drones are going to be affected by DJI.
How does this sudden change happen? Earlier, the rules were strict about the weight capacity. If a drone was able to lift 55 lbs (25 kg) or more with certain capabilities, they were considered military-grade under the rules. But now, with the updated definition, even consumer-grade drones that are under the 250-gram category will be considered military-grade drones if they use any sort of LiDAR sensor, which many modern technologies use, and they are now banned.
What Notice Did the FCC Issue?
On July 21, 2026, the FCC released Public Notice DA 26-758.
In this notice, the agency proposed to stop the further importation and marketing of certain previously approved foreign-made drones that it now labels as “military-grade.” One of the main categories under this definition is any drone that uses LiDAR sensors.

Which Drone Models Have LiDAR and Are Affected?
The proposal does not care whether LiDAR is used for mapping or only for obstacle avoidance. If the drone has LiDAR sensors, it is subject to the restriction.
Currently, the models most affected are:
- DJI Air 3S
- DJI Mini 5 Pro
- DJI Neo 2
- Avata models that use LiDAR (including Avata 360)
These drones use LiDAR primarily for obstacle avoidance. According to the FCC’s own definition, that is enough to put them on the list.
Other categories such as thermal imaging, agricultural spray drones, docking stations, and drones over 55 lbs (25 kg) are also covered, but for most photographers and content creators, the Air 3S and Mini 5 Pro are the biggest concern.
Why the Next 30 Days Matter
Public comments are open until September 2, 2026.
On paper, this is the window for people to submit feedback. In reality, history shows that public comments in national security-related FCC cases rarely change the final decision. Once the FCC has already stated that it has “tentatively concluded” a restriction is needed, the direction is usually locked.
That is why the next few weeks are critical for buyers.
If you are planning to buy an Air 3S, Mini 5 Pro, or related LiDAR models, or if you want spare batteries, propellers, ND filters, and other accessories, this is the window to secure them while stock is still freely available through normal channels.
Waiting for a final decision may leave you with limited or no new supply.

Existing Owners Are Still Safe
If you already own these drones, you can continue to use and fly them. The proposal only targets new imports and sales. It does not stop people from operating drones they already have.
The Bigger Picture – Ban of Budget Drone Cinematography in USA
For years, budget-friendly DJI camera drones gave independent filmmakers, wedding videographers, real estate photographers, and content creators access to high-quality aerial footage without spending enterprise-level money.
That era now appears to be closing in the US market.
The practical advice for photographers and creators is simple: if you need these models or spare parts, the next few weeks are the time to act.
We will continue monitoring the process and update this story as soon as the FCC takes the next official step.
We have summarized the Major Key points here
- This is still a proposal, not a final ban.
- LiDAR is the key reason consumer camera drones such as the Air 3S, Mini 5 Pro, and Neo 2 are included.
- Existing owners can continue flying their drones.
- New sales face a high risk of being cut off if the rule is adopted.
- Comment deadline: September 2, 2026. However, past patterns suggest a limited chance of a full reversal.
- If adopted, a 180-day transition period is proposed before sales restrictions take effect.

DJI Osmo 360 II Pre-Orders Starting Today in China

By admin, on July 24th, 2026

HoverAir may be preparing one of the biggest innovations in the self-flying camera market. The latest teaser videos have ignited discussions across online forums; even users are confused about how this can be possible. The drone company may be working on one of the world’s first modular self-flying camera drones.
We’re waiting on the authenticity of these estimates, but users are very excited to see the initial trailer and a glimpse of the drone. On July 23, well-known tech leaker Igor Bogdanov (@Quadro_News) shared three short teaser videos of an unreleased HoverAir device. He stated that he knows the full product but is only revealing “a small part” of it for now. Notably, he also tagged both DJI and Insta360, saying they “might find this interesting too.”

What the videos reveal
The clips focus on three key elements:
- A black rectangular module being positioned between the propeller arms, with the word “HOVER” displayed on it.
- A detailed look at a mechanical latch and multi-pin gold contact connector — the strongest indication so far that the camera unit is designed to be removable.
- A front view of the complete unit showing HoverAir’s familiar caged propeller guards, a central camera body, and a glowing RGB LED status ring on top.
Well, when we see the design, it strongly suggests a modular system: a flying platform that can accept a detachable camera module. Some viewers have already described it as a “flying Osmo / Luna” concept — a self-flying body with a removable camera unit.
Why this is interesting
We all know hoverair drones; they are quite a bit popular with their
HoverAir has built its brand around ultra-light, self-flying cameras (X1 series and the waterproof Aqua) that launch from the hand and track subjects autonomously. A modular approach would be a clear step beyond their current fixed-design products and would differentiate them from both DJI’s Neo-style drones and Insta360’s current offerings.
Possible advantages of a detachable camera module include:
- Using the camera as a standalone unit
- Swapping modules for different shooting scenarios
- Keeping the flying body as a dedicated aerial platform
At this stage, everything remains speculative. No product name, specifications, or release timeline have been shared. This is still pure teaser material.
Quick context on HoverAir’s current lineup
- X1 / X1 Smart – Ultra-light self-flying cameras (X1 Smart weighs just 99g)
- X1 Pro / ProMax – Higher-end versions with improved tracking and resolution
- Aqua – The first fully waterproof self-flying camera (IP67)
Note for US readers: Existing HoverAir models that already have FCC authorization continue to be available. Newer platforms (such as the Aqua) have faced regulatory hurdles under the current foreign drone rules.
We’ll continue monitoring official channels and further leaks. If HoverAir follows its usual pattern, more concrete details could appear in the coming weeks.
What do you think of the modular direction? Useful evolution or unnecessary complexity? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Insta360 Luna Ultra has been announced, but we again have the modular camera prototype images of the camera, which are coming straight out from one of the most trusted leakers, Igor. Take a look at what he said and shared in his latest tweet.
Tech leaker Igor Bogdanov (@Quadro_News) shared three clean studio shots today, captioning them as:
“Photo of the early prototype of the Insta360 modular camera, from which Luna came.”
Before jumping into more details and images, let me clarify one thing. This is not the first time we are looking at the modular prototypes of the Insta360 camera. Back in January 2026, we published the modular prototype images for the first time on the web here at TheNewCamera.com.

The wording is important. Igor didn’t say these were early Luna prototypes. He referred to them as prototypes of “the Insta360 modular camera” — suggesting that Luna is a product that came out of a larger modular development program inside Insta360.

A Story We’ve Been Following Since January 2026
As I have said earlier, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen these kinds of images. Back in January 2026, thenewcamera.com exclusively published prototype photos of Insta360’s upcoming pocket camera. Those images already showed a highly modular system – with snap-together modules, interchangeable lenses (including Leica optics), and multiple camera heads that could attach to a gimbal or be used standalone.
At the time, the camera had no official name. What we saw then was clearly part of the same modular vision that has now taken shape as the Luna series.

What These New Photos Reveal
The latest images shared today appear to show an even earlier stage of development. We can see:
- A vertical pocket-style body with a large lens
- A gimbal unit paired with a small detachable camera module
- A standalone small square sensor module
These early experiments show Insta360 was exploring multiple directions before narrowing down the final design. Interestingly, some of these early prototypes appear more modular than the Luna Ultra that launched on June 10, 2026.
The Exciting Part: Is This the Beginning, Not the End?
Here’s where it gets interesting.
The fact that Insta360 was working on a broader “modular camera” platform (as Igor described it) raises an exciting possibility: the modular development may still be ongoing.
As we all know, the Luna Ultra is the first generation of Insta360’s pocketable camera, and as we have discussed, this is just the beginning and not the end. This means Insta360 had multiple modular prototypes even before the official announcement of the current Insta360 Luna Ultra camera, and it clearly indicates that in the near future we may see drastic improvements in the modular functionality of upcoming pocket gimbal cameras.
This opens up an exciting question for the future:
Could future Luna models (Luna Ultra 2 or next-generation versions) bring back more advanced modular features? Think swappable lenses, multiple detachable modules, or even more creative configurations.
If Insta360 continues down this path, Luna might not just be a single camera – it could evolve into a modular ecosystem, similar to how Insta360 previously experimented with the ONE R and its interchangeable lens modules.
Why This Matters
Insta360 didn’t just build another pocket gimbal camera. From the above images its very clear that they spent years developing a modular foundation. The Luna Ultra we have today is the first major product to come out of that effort, and obviously, more are on the way.
These early prototype photos are more than just nostalgia. They show us where Luna came from – and hint at where it might still go.
Insta360 has a history of pushing modular design further than most brands. If they continue developing this direction, the best chapters of the Luna story might still be ahead of us.
What do you think – would you like to see Insta360 bring back deeper modularity in future Luna models (like swappable lenses or more detachable parts)? Let us know in the comments.

Amazon Prime Day already started from June 23, 2026, and as we all know, the DJI Mini 4K has emerged as one of the most popular drones ever released, and more than 3,000 to 4,000 units of the DJI Mini 4K drone are being sold on Amazon USA alone. So, this Prime Day, we are getting an approx 30% price drop over the MSRP price of the Mini 4K drone.
And the best part is because the drone weighs just 246g, it does not require FAA registration or Remote ID for recreational flying. This makes it one of the easiest DJI drones to own and fly legally in the US in 2026.
Important Update: Prime Day deals are already live on Amazon. However, the biggest discounts on the DJI Mini 4K and its bundles are expected to appear within the next few days. We will continue updating the prices in this article as the main deals go live between June 23–26. Check the links below for the latest pricing.
Why the DJI Mini 4K Stands Out in 2026
DJI Mini 4K is said to be one of the most affordable and advanced versions of the Mini series of DJI drones. It has been designed for beginners and weighs under 250g, so it doesn’t require any sort of registration for flying. Other than that, it does deliver high-quality 4K video without spending a fortune.
And the standout key features include a built-in 3-axis gimbal that gives you excellent stable video footage on the go. Whether your drone is moving at high speed or staying stable in the middle, you’re always getting very stable footage, which is really impossible from a budget drone available in the USA. Other than that, we are also getting reliable GPS-assisted flight modes and intelligent shooting modes, all packed in a compact body, and that’s one of the biggest reasons for the higher amount of sales of the DJI Mini 4K drone in the United States of America.

Recommendation: If you plan to fly regularly, the Fly More Combo usually offers better long-term value, especially when it goes on discount during Prime Day.
DJI Mini 4K – FAA Regulations & Legal Flying in the USA
One of the biggest advantages of the DJI Mini 4K is its weight. At 246g, it falls under the 249g limit. As per current FAA rules in 2026:
- No registration is required for recreational use.
- Remote ID is not mandatory.
- You can fly it in most areas without needing an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107).
However, you must still follow standard drone rules:
- Fly below 400 feet
- Keep the drone in your line of sight
- Avoid restricted airspace and airports
- Respect privacy and no-fly zones
This regulatory simplicity makes the Mini 4K especially attractive for beginners and hobbyists in the United States.

Image and Video Quality
The DJI Mini 4K delivers usable 4K footage for social media, YouTube, real estate, and casual content creation. The 3-axis gimbal does a good job of stabilizing footage even in moderate wind.
However, because it uses a smaller 1/2.3-inch sensor, it has limitations:
- Dynamic range is average
- Low-light performance is average (noise increases in dim conditions)
- Colors are decent but not as rich as the Mini 3 or Mini 4 Pro
For daylight shooting and well-lit environments, the Mini 4K performs well for its price. It is noticeably better than most cheap, no-name drones in terms of colour and stabilisation.
Real-World Flight Performance
Most of us in our team have the same DJI Mini 4K drone. Once it’s fully charged, you get approximately 20 to 24 minutes of flight time per battery, depending upon the wind conditions and the flying style. If you opt for this situation, you are getting a drone that handles wind at normal speeds very well and delivers excellent, stable video footage on the go.
But yes, we have to add one thing here: the drone does not have a proper obstacle avoidance mode that we have in the high-end DJI drones. So you have to be more careful while flying near trees, power lines, or in very tight spaces. Yes, but the GPS-assisted Return to Home works reliably very well.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- No FAA registration or Remote ID required in the US
- True 4K video with 3-axis gimbal stabilization
- Compact, foldable, and easy to carry
- Good wind resistance for its class
- Beginner-friendly with intelligent flight modes
- Affordable entry into the DJI ecosystem
Cons:
- No obstacle avoidance sensors
- Average low-light and dynamic range performance
- Real-world flight time is lower than lab rating
- Older O2 transmission system
Who Should Buy the DJI Mini 4K?
The DJI Mini 4K is best suited for:
- Beginners who want their first proper DJI drone
- Content creators and vloggers on a budget
- Real estate agents looking for simple aerial shots
- Travel enthusiasts who want a lightweight drone for trips
- Users who want to avoid FAA registration hassle
If you regularly fly in complex environments or need better low-light performance, consider saving for the DJI Mini 3 or waiting for better deals on the Mini 4 Pro during Prime Day.
Final Verdict – Should You Buy the DJI Mini 4K During Prime Day 2026?
The DJI Mini 4K is one of the best budget 4K drones available in 2026, especially if you can buy it during Prime Day at a discounted price.
It offers the right balance of performance, portability, and legal simplicity for most beginners and casual users in the United States. While it lacks obstacle avoidance and has average low-light capabilities, it delivers solid 4K footage in good lighting conditions at a very reasonable price.
If your budget is under $300 and you want a hassle-free drone experience, the Mini 4K is a strong recommendation during Prime Day.
Pro Tip: The Fly More Combo usually gives the best value when it goes on sale.

Just a few hours ago, one of the most trusted DJI leakers, Igor, posted a fresh video showing a new drone prototype being tested by one of the experienced FPV testers at an unknown place.
The video is not that clear due to quality issues, as usual. These kinds of early prototype leaked videos are generally blurry, specifically captured in a way to create sensation while also protecting the identity of the upcoming drone. Still, with the help of AI and image upscaling software, the drone design has become clearer to us, which indicates that the drone that is being tested seems like an early prototype of DJI Neo 3, specifically if you look at the structure of the guard protectors of the drone.
“👉Well, well, well…DJI, what are you doing? Let me think: Neo 3 or Avata 3🫣”
The 16th leaked video has been uploaded, and it created massive excitement among the fans, and yes, a lot of them are claiming that it looks like a budget version of the 360 drone mixed with the Neo design. So there is some possibility that we may have a 360 in late 2026 or early 2027.

Why the Guard Pattern Doesn’t Match Avata 3 Drone Expectations
Recall our earlier report (March 21, 2026): A trusted Chinese source who actually test-flew the Avata 3 prototype told drone creator Mauro Tandoi that the next Avata will feature a panoramic dual-camera gimbal similar to the Avata 360’s 360° viewing angle. The flight feel was reportedly not as sharp as the Avata 2.
Traditional Avata bodies (Avata 1, 2, and the just-launched 360) use rugged cinewhoop designs with smaller, asymmetrical bottom/rear vents for ESCs and motors. Nothing like these oversized side grills. The March leak focused entirely on the gimbal upgrade — no mention of a radical body redesign.

Or Is This an Advanced Neo 3 Whoop Drone Body?
The compact size and ultra-symmetric design feel very “Neo.” The original DJI Neo is the palm-sized beginner whoop that’s insanely popular for its throw-and-go simplicity. A Neo 3 with upgraded ventilation for longer flight times, stronger motors, or even hybrid 360° capabilities would make total sense as an evolution.
Some replies to Quadro_News even called it “Neo 360” or compared it to the HoverAir Aqua. The grill pattern is far more Neo-like than Avata-like.
Timeline: How Soon Could We See This?
- Avata 360: Just launched in China (March 26, 2026) and now shipping globally.
- Avata 3: Still on track for late 2027 per the credible March leak. Early field testing of supporting hardware (like a new controller) fits perfectly.
- Neo 3: Not overdue for a quick refresh. No official leaks yet, but DJI loves testing radical ideas on the cheaper Neo line first.
The fact that DJI is already doing outdoor multi-device power testing in April 2026 means development is moving faster than the 2027 timeline suggested.
Bottom Line: Most Likely a Prototype Controller for Avata 3 (or Neo 3 Drone)
We’re leaning 65% toward a new FPV 360 Style budget drone for beginners /whoop controller with those signature grills for thermal performance, and 35% toward an advanced Neo 3 Update. The grill pattern simply doesn’t match any Avata drone DNA we’ve seen.

Does the Clearance of Avata 2 Stock Mean the Arrival of Avata 360 Drone?
The Avata 360 drone is about to arrive and the announcement is expected anytime soon maybe at the end of February or at the very beginning weeks of the March but again we are still waiting for concrete information lowering the price tag of Avata 2 is not uncommon DJI always run their offers at amazon.com store time to time but from December till now that’s the lowest amount or price that you are paying for the DJI Avata combo so yes it can be a signal for clearing out the shelves and to make the space for new one
Also we have already seen a lot of leaks related to the DJI Avata 360 drone and we are also confirmed over the fact that 360 drone works in two ways that’s the regular FPV style drone and in a 360 mode drone means it’s kind of a 2 in 1 drone coming in a single package and obviously if it’s priced reasonably well then people will going to prefer to buy the 360 instead of Avata 2 without a doubt

Recent leaks suggest the DJI Avata 360 could feature dual 1-inch sensors for 8K 60fps HDR in 360 mode, with a potential US price around $999 for the Fly More Combo. Despite earlier expectations for a February 5, 2026 announcement, delays have pushed it possibly to late February or early March. This drone has cleared FCC approval, making it eligible for US sales amid ongoing restrictions.
