Olympus - Will Never Make Fullframe Camera

Olympus confirmed in an interview that they will not make any fullframe cameras, they want to keep themselves limited to M4/3 format only. This is not the first time Olympus Representative said they are will not make any FF cameras. But the recent information is coming from Olympus Vice President Sales and Marketing, Olympus America Aki Murata.

Murata-san made the point that those other players are in the process of leaving behind an important and very significant segment, namely people for whom compactness, light weight and ruggedness are supremely important.

So, we are sure Now Olympus will lead the M4/3 camera system with their innovation and dedication. We also believe that Panasonic will now put more attention towards their  SL mount based fullframe Mirrorless cameras and sure give a tough competition to Sony Alpha Fullframe cameras.

New Pix Curve Image Sensor Coming at CES 2019

We are covering up Curve sensor news from a while but yesterday we have a received a email from French research institute CEA-Leti team about their upcoming Curve sensor announcement at CES show. The new curve image sensor can be used for Cameras, Smartphones and Security Cameras.

Curve and organic sensors are the future imagine technology, with the implementation of curve sensor the lens optics size will be reduced dramatically (upto 50-60% compared to conventional lens size) and that opens a bunch of possibilities to improve your existing interchangeable lens system.

Curve Sensor Advantages

  • Form Factor: Reducing the number of lens elements in digital cameras from 10 to six reduces the size of the final compound lens by 60 percent. The overall length of the optical system also is shorter.
  • Improved Performance: Curved image sensors reduce—and in some cases completely eliminate—optical aberrations like curvature of field and the vignetting effect. They also deliver increased brightness and a wider field of view.
  • Cost: Reducing the number of lens elements and eliminating aspheric lens elements, which will be unnecessary, will lower the cost of systems integrating Pixcurve technology.
  • Assembly: Fewer components means quicker and easier assembly—a major advantage for manufacturers.

CEA will host a ‘CEA Tech Village’ at booth 51253 in Eureka Park

Visitors at the Pixcurve booth at CES will see before-and-after examples on two tablets, illustrating the substantial size reduction that Pixcurve curved-sensor technology can bring and proving that there is no decline in image quality.

Press Release

Pixcurve at CES: New Curved Image Sensor Technology Reduces Size, Weight & Cost of Digital Cameras – and Improves Image Quality

GRENOBLE, France – Dec. 06, 2018 – With an innovation that could inject new life into the global digital-camera market, CEA-Leti will demonstrate its new technology for image sensors at CES 2019 that replicates the curve of the human retina. This curved image sensor technology breakthrough, called Pixcurve, requires fewer lens elements in digital cameras, which shrinks camera size by half and lowers costs – while improving image quality.

“The digital camera market has taken a huge hit from the massive adoption of smartphones, even though these bigger cameras deliver better image quality than smartphone cameras,” said David Henry, manager of packaging and assembling at CEA-Leti. “Pixcurve, which also reduces camera sizes in smartphones, microdisplays and virtual-reality glasses, provides camera manufacturers with cost effective, compact, easy-to-assemble optical components they need to bring their products to new levels of performance in the digital era.”

Portability is a big factor for many consumers, and smaller, lighter and less-expensive digital cameras will enable camera makers to increase their share of the global market. With Pixcurve, CEA-Leti, a French research institute, has developed an innovative solution for the visible imaging market and beyond.

So, just take a look at the images and enjoy and do share your thought with us

We have already shared a lot of information related to the upcoming Olympus E-M1X. latest information suggest that we have published on December 6 2018, the upcoming Olympus E-M1X camera will going to use artificially intelligent auto focusing system. This is the first time that a micro four third camera is using a high level of AI system and that will sure going to help sports shooters to track high-speed subjects.

Olympus E-M1X Leaked Specification

  • Sensor: 20MP
  • Frame rate: 18fps
  • 7.5+ EV stabilization
  • Faster image processing – approx 2x faster than the E-m1X
  • Autofocus: Adaptive and expandable focal points. Two examples. If you are shooting a person, then shift to shooting a car, the number of focal points will automatically
  • expand. If you are shooting a basketball player, you will get a vertical series of 5 focal points.
  • Body Size: 144.37 x 146.765 x 75.345mm (body with a built in vertical grip)

  • Photography focus: Sports and Wildlife shooters
  • Same batteries as E-M1 Mk II
  • Larger EVF
  • Launch: January 2019 along “2 tele zooms, 1 wide angle zoom. speedlight. zuiko binoculars”
  • Availability: February

The only thing we don’t like about this camera is its high price tag, according to the rumors upcoming camera will going to be priced somewhere around $3000. Which is really too excessive if you’re going to compare it with the existing mirrorless system solutions offered by other other companies, and yes I am talking about Sony which gives you excellent mirrorless FF camera under $1000…OLY should keep the price of the upcoming Olympus E-M1X camera somewhere around $2000 or less than that to look more feasible in the competition.

Olympus E-M1X camera is rumored to arrive in January 2019 and the shipping of the camera will start from February 2019. We will update you soon as we collect more information related to the upcoming camera. We are also waiting for trusted Japanese sources to leak out some authentic set of information and clear images of the upcoming Olympus E-M1X flagship mirrorless M4/3 camera.

Canon Working on Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization System [More Confirmation]

Yesterday Japanese patent hunting website [hi-lo] revealed that Canon is working on sensor shift image stabilization system. This is not the first time we are talking about Canon full frame mirrorless sensor shift image stabilization system.

Canon Latest Sensor shift IS patent

CANON filed a patent of tilting sensor to reduce an eccentricity of lens. This patent is very simple application of IBIS.

Public number] Japanese Unexamined Patent Application Publication No. 2018-194766 (P2018-194766A) click here
[Publication date] December 6, Heisei 20 (2018.12.6)
Patent application title: Camera body having optical correction and lens device

We have Told you a month ago…

If you are a regular leader of our website then we have already published a patent back on October 2018 which talks about Canon working on built-in sensor shift image stabilization system for their mirrorless cameras. [ See here – Canon working on image stabilization system ]

So we have already published information about Canon sensor shift image stabilization system even prior to the Japanese patent hunting website. And most importantly both the patent is bit different that clearly indicates Canon is seriously thinking about implementation of built-in image stabilization system inside their full frame mirrorless cameras.

Canon Representatives Talks about IBIS in Future Canon Mirrorless Models

Now let’s talk about what Canon representatives said about the implementation of sensor-shift image stabilization system inside their future mirrorless cameras. On September 2018 we have published the post which contains major points of Canon ICB product development team interview

Canon for development team clearly said

Canon had a policy against IBIS on DSLRs, but this is not the case for MILCs. Lack of IBIS on EOS R was a result of compromises over body size, cost and heat dissipation for this particular model; they do think it has merits, and will consider it for future models depending on the nature of the camera body.

Canon Combination IS [Dual IS System]

We already know Canon developed Combination IS system for Canon EOS M50 camera. In which they utilizes both OSS and Camera Digital IS together in 4K Video mode to combat camera shake. And once they developed the sensor shift-mechanism they will sure utilize both lens based IS and Sensor based IS.

In general patent takes at least a year of time to become reality. So, we are expecting and as the rumor mills suggest Canon will sure announce a High-End Mirrorless camera in future with built-in image stabilization system. And who know even the EOS Mark II camera may carry built-in image stabilization inside.
