With  3975 AF points the Canon 200D II features more Dense AF system compared to Sony. Sony A6400 limited to 455 AF points only.

To simplify AF points and make it user selectable Canon divided AF points into 143 AF zones. So, comparatively Canon 200D II will perform better compared to Sony with more dense AF point network.

Available AF Points in Display Mode 3975 AF points / 143 Zones 445 AF Points

Canon 200D II features optical viewfinder and Sony A6400 electronic, selection of type viewfinder depends personal test. BTW, one slight advantage we have with Sony is we will be getting 455 AF points AF support that they do wish to offers us in Live view, video as well as viewfinder mode. Btw with Canon will offer you only 9 point AF when you will be using optical viewfinder (as you know that phase AF module of DSLR camera gets activated when you use the optical viewfinder).

So at the end, in these two model if I have to work on viewfinder mode I will choose Sony A6400 instead of Canon 200D II.

I hands love DSLR grip, apart from that Canon 200D II features 1040 shot per charge battery life whereas Sony limited to 410.

If your requirements limited to Full HD videos and you need a Hybrid solution, Canon 200D II is the best camera for you. Since, you are not getting only Class leading AF system. But, also support of EF and EF-S Lenses.

Everything remains look same from specification side. But the sensor is new with more AF points fabricated on it. However, the tech remains same [CMOS] so don’t expect jump in image quality of the camera.

Digital Image stabilization is being introduced inside the camera. Before Canon 200D II / 250D the Digital IS tech was limited to 6D Mark II and Canon T7i / Canon 800D. Now finally we are having the Digital IS feature in 200D II or SL2. When paired up with OIS [Optical image stabilization] it gives support upto 5 stops.

New Image processor – With the introduction of new image processor the Camera company in general also adds new image decoding algorithm and overall operational speed of the camera also improves.

With the introduction of new image processor the camera now records C-RAW files and 4K cropped video.

Canon finally introduced 4K Video recording option inside the Canon 200D II / SL3 / 250D camera. However the option is same as we have seen inside the Canon EOS M50 camera. We do get some forced limitation from Canon in 250D camera.

2.56X Crop in 4K video mode, as well as no DPAF support in 4K mode. The AF remains limited to contrast detect AF.

4. Dual Pixel CMOS AF

The Canon 200D II DPAF system in best in its class and even better than most of Mid-range DSLRs and Mirrorless of today’s.

Weight 15.84 oz / 449 g (Body with Battery and Memory) 14.32 oz / 406 g (Body Only)

 8. Conclusion

Canon 200D II arrived with limited improvements, the sensor is revised and AF is vastly improved, we have new Digic 8 image processor that improves overall operational speed of the camera and add 4k as well as C-RAW file option to 200D II. But, despite of having a new image processor, we are getting same continuous shooting speed and ISO ratings. And not only that 4K mode mimic the same limitations we have seen inside the EOS M50 camera.

But, above all Canon 200D II high density AF system is best in its class. You will be getting best in class AF speed while recording videos or shooting still through the display / live view mode.

We highly recommend you to buy Canon 200D II camera over Canon 200D.
