Fuji GFX 100 Megapixel Hybrid AF, Medium Format Camera Coming in 2019

Development Announcement from Fuji: Finally Fujifilm is developing their flagship 100 megapixel medium format mirrorless camera, you can say it’s ultimate gfx series medium format camera, which is schedule to arrive in the year of 2019 with a very high price tag.

One of the most interesting thing that we have seen in the prototypes  The camera do features 5 Axis image stabilization system and phase detect autofocus pixels inside the hundred megapixel medium format sensor.

One of the most important thing that we have already seen the medium format sensor announcement from Sony in the past year,  but those 100 megapixel medium format BSI CMOS sensors or you can say the hundred 50 MB BSI CMOS sensor doesn’t feature built-in phase detect autofocus pixels.

If Fuji film is promising for Phase detect autofocus system in there medium format camera, it’s a clear indication that they have self develop their sensor with their own homegrown Technologies.  Possibly the GFX camera will be the first to carry a medium format X-trance sensor, And personally I would love to see X- trans medium format sensor performance when compared to earth medium format BSI sensor performance in near future.

One of the most important thing to know that the camera is also capable to record high quality 4K videos. And at the same time you will have a blazing fast autofocusing speed while creating your 4K videos, thanks to the built-in Hybrid AF Sensor.

And finally we have also got a confirmation from Fuji representatives that all the possible set ofGFX lenses present now and expected to arrive in near future are  fully capable to resolve 100 megapixel resolution without an issue.

So, finally we are having a very competitive player in the medium format Battleground, and the space is still empty because we have hasselblad we Phase one but none of them have any promise things system like Fuji GFX system.

We do got some rumours that Phase one is also developing their lineup of medium format mirrorless camera but it still about to be confirmed.

Now one of the most disappointing thing related to the announcement of the so-called hundred megapixel medium format camera is its price, she said the camera will going to cost $10,000 which is of course very high,  but at the same time if you compare the cost of the camera with the existing medium format professional solutions available via Phase ONE and hasselblad then you will find it reasonable.

we will update you soon as we get any development announcement or leaves related to the upcoming hundred megapixel medium format camera from Fujifilm.

L-Mount Alliance is now Official: Press Release

It’s confirmed now, Panasonic, Leica and Sigma Joined hands with each other to give a tough competition to existing fullframe mirrorless market. We have told you few days back, that Leica is planning to announce two new fullframe mirrorless camera while having the Leica L-Mount and very soon Sigma will also going the gang with their lenses and cameras (already published).

Finally the L-Mount Alliance German press release is leaked, we are putting the google translated version below

L-Mount Alliance Press Release

L-Mount Alliance: Strategic cooperation between Leica Camera, Panasonic and Sigma

One day before the official launch of photokina 2018, Leica Camera AG, Panasonic and Sigma announced a strategic partnership at the company’s press conference. The “L-Mount Alliance” is an unprecedented way of working together and will be particularly beneficial to the customers of the three companies. It allows Panasonic and Sigma to use the L-mount standard developed by Leica for their own developments and thus also offer cameras and optics with this lens mount. Through the joint efforts of the three partners, the alliance will significantly contribute to the importance of the L-Mount standard for the world of photography
Due to their numerous interchangeable components, system cameras allow a very flexible use and can be individually configured according to requirements. The bayonet is the most important interface, as the lens has a significant impact on the imaging performance and therefore on the final image quality. The strategic partnership between Leica, Panasonic and Sigma will allow customers to use a wider range of cameras and lenses in the future without compromising on so far to have to specify individual manufacturers, because they use propriety bayonets.

Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and majority shareholder, Leica Camera AG: “Photographers are extremely important for their chosen camera system. Particularly in the increasingly growing market for mirrorless system cameras, there is an ever-increasing variety of different requirements on the part of the users. In order to be able to meet these requirements at short notice, we have decided to work together with renowned partners from the photographic industry.
With Panasonic we have many years of partnership and trusting cooperation and their expertise in electronics is undisputed. Sigma is also a respected company, which has established itself particularly in the field of optical development and with its innovative products, a perfect complement to our existing L-Mount portfolio can. We believe that together with our partners, we can achieve mutual and sustainable growth for all our products. ”
Mr. Tetsuro Homma, Senior Managing Executive Officer, Panasonic Corporation, said: “Panasonic’s focus has always been to revolutionize the camera market and make photographers’ lives easier, more advanced, and more enjoyable. Our long-standing partnership with Leica has resulted in numerous high-performance, high-end digital cameras, combining Leica’s leading optical technology with Panasonic’s digital technologies. This partnership has enabled us to drive the development of excellent digital photography products. The L-Mount alliance with Leica and Sigma is a prime example of the power of our collaboration. This alliance of strong companies will fundamentally change the future of the photography industry. As a market challenger, we have always driven innovation with the slogan ‘Changing Photography’ to meet the high expectations of professional photographers. Our
Partnering with Leica and Sigma will provide additional business opportunities for our companies, but above all, it will continue to bring great pleasure to our customers in photography. ”

Mr.Kazuto Yamaki, Chief Executive Officer, SIGMACorporation: “As cameras evolve toward digital and mirrorless, user and system requirements have also changed. Currently, there is an almost overwhelming choice of different systems that, however, do not yet meet all the needs of users, especially in terms of extensibility and flexibility. SIGMA joins this alliance to develop mirrorless cameras that benefit from the flange distance. As SIGMA seeks to develop high-quality and innovative high-performance products, this alliance will greatly enhance both the implementation and expandability of our camera system, significantly increasing the value to our customers. Leica is a great company and has had a significant impact on photography for more than 100 years, and Panasonic is a leader in many different areas because of its proven track record. Combined with SIGMA’s high quality, high performance and unique products, the L-Mount will become an extremely attractive system for potential users. ”

About the L-mount

The L-Mount was developed by Leica Camera to provide customers with a future-proof, flexible, robust and precise bayonet that will meet even the most demanding photographic requirements. After its initial launch in 2014 in the Leica T, the L-Mount has been continuously developed by Leica Camera and its partners, resulting in improved and quasi-new L-Mount technology.

For the widest possible variety of products, the diameter of the L-mount was dimensioned at 51.6 millimeters, making it suitable not only for full-frame cameras but also for APS-C sensors. The small footprint of only 20 millimeters allows for a small distance between optics and sensor, making lenses much more compact – particularly useful for wide angle development. To withstand even the heaviest loads and to guarantee maximum safety for customers over many years of intensive use, camera bayonets become wear resistant Stainless steel and with four flange segments, which prevents tilting and ensures a particularly firm and flat fit of the lens. The standardized L-Mount contact strip ensures smooth communication between the electronic components in the lens and the camera, including the possibility of firmware updates for lenses, in order to react to technical developments and thus ensure full performance in the future.

Currently, the Leica SL system in full format and the APS system with camera models Leica CL, TL2 and TLde use the lens mount. All the optics of the different systems can be operated without restrictions and without adapters on all cameras – here is already one of the many advantages that customers have through the unified bayonet. In the near future, both the Leica CameraAG, as well as Panasonic and Sigma announce other products using the same standard.

Announcement on Photokina 2019

Canon full frame mirrorless camera is expected to be announced within next year. so, we are expecting that Canon will announce the next rumored fullframe mirrorless camera on next photokina event which is scheduled to happen in the May month of 2019.

Canon 26MP FF Mirrorless camera is next

That’s really interesting, because just 7 to 8 months from now the same Japanese sources revealed that they have spotted a full frame mirrorless camera with 30 megapixel sensor in the Indonesian wireless agency. And the information was highly accurate, and we have now the Canon EOS R mirrorless camera with 30 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor. Just in case they have again spotted a camera with 26 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor.

So, there is again big possibility that we may see 26 megapixel CMOS dual pixel autofocus sensor (a revised version of Canon 6D II sensor) in the next full frame mirrorless camera from Canon.

Canon EOS R vs Sony A7III vs Nikon Z6

Canon EOS R vs Sony A7III vs Nikon Z6

Ok let’s talk about the Canon EOS camera, the camera cost approx falls under dollar 2000 category which is same as you pay for the Sony A7 III and the Nikon Z6.

Canon EOS R is a Canon 6D Mark II camera with a 5D Mark IV sensor and the processor coming from EOS M50.

Canon EOS R – A Entry Level Full Frame Camera

So canon actually announced entry level full frame mirrorless camera , you can say it’s a Canon EOS m50 mirrorless camera in terms of full frame mirrorless camera . With having some kind of Limited environment, let me explain why I am saying this

Let’s take a look at the Major specification of the camera

The Nikon FTZ Mount adaptor available at $249 – Available at B&H Store

Buy Nikon Z6 camera from B&H | Amazon.com

let’s talk about the set of features that I really like inside the Canon EOS R camera

  • 30.3MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor
  • DIGIC 8 Image Processor
  • UHD 4K30 Video; C-Log & 10-Bit HDMI Out
  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF, 5655 AF Points
  • 3.69m-Dot OLED Electronic Viewfinder
  • 3.15″ 2.1m-Dot Swivel Touchscreen LCD
  • Expanded ISO 50-102400, 8 fps Shooting
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, SD UHS-II Card Slot
  • Multi-Function Bar, Dual Pixel RAW

Canon EOS R vs Sony A7III vs Nikon Z6 – Specs Comparison

Price of Canon EOS R

The price of the camera, the price of the camera is in the reach of most of the Pro APS-C and it falls under $2000 category. But at the same time the camera is slightly more costlier than the Sony A7III and Nikon Z6 camera.  However it is expected to see a price drop if $400 in next 4 to 6 months.  But at the same time the EOS R is giving you more solid specs compared to the Sony A7 III or the Nikon Z6.

Canon is Using OLD Sensor Tech

Canon is using old sensor Technology inside the new Canon EOS R camera. As we all know that Canon nowhere mentions that they are using a new kind of a sensor with the new Canon EOS R digital camera, you can check out the world wide press releases of the Canon EOS R. So that clearly means we are getting the exactly same sensor of the Canon 5D Mark 4 camera.

That’s isn’t a big issue that Canon EOS R is using 5D Mk IV sensor, but it do becomes outdated when your competitors are using BSI CMOS sensor. And as we all know the new Nikon Z6 camera as well as the Sony A7 III camera using BSI CMOS sensors inside it, so if we will going to compare them with the Canon EOS R camera, then we have some dynamic range as well as low light performance issue with the Canon.

No Built-in Image Stabilization

They took a lot of time to make the EOS Mirrorless camera, the Canon EOS R camera dosn’t have built-in image stabilization system why ? Butil-in Image stabilization system has become a norm in Mirrorlss cameras.  So, Canon should introduce built-in IS system with upcoming Canon EOS R cameras.

Giving out More Than the Competition

Now let’s find out the the list of some major specs that really very attractive and not present inside even Sony A9 and Nikon Z7 camera, so let’s see some mind blowing features of the Canon EOS R camera

So, above all that’s really a very impressive number, having more than 5K AF points is literally feels like Sony and Nikon giving you nothing for the price.

More than 5000 Auto-Focus in points

Well it is the first camera in the history which carries more than 5000 autofocusing points on its own. This is the first time when can an is actually disclosing the number of autofocusing points in a dual pixel CMOS autofocus sensor, I am following-up the Canon from the 70D announcement when Canon first Dual pixel sensor was introduced and at the same time we also know that Canon engineers are working on Quad Pixel CMOS AF sensor.

But even after that till now can I never disclose the number of pixels working all together to acquire AF. Finally they disclosed and it’s really insane to see that more than 5000 autofocusing pixels have there are you can see Sab pixels working all together to acquire autofocus.

AF Sensitivity -6Ev

That’s really a great news, the best camera available right now to work in dark light situation. As we all know the Sony and Nikon both falling behind when you talk about the AF sensitivity.

But, a Big BUT

Canon introduce eye AF tracking feature inside the Canon EOS R camera and that’s really a cool thing to have. But, at the same time the the Eve AF is not as good as we have seen in the Sony A7III or A9, at the same time the Eye AF tracking is not available in video AF mode.

Flange Distance isn’t so good in Canon FF Mirrorless

About the flange distance of the Canon EOS camera, I am a disappointed by what they made after taking so much time literally they have made a camera which have the largest flange distance among the class of full frame mirrorless cameras. Let’s talk about the Sony A7 III have 18mm,  Nikon Z6 have the sjortest 16 MM lens distance, and Canon EOS are camera that arrived in the last have a longest distance of 20mm. Having less distance improves the Dynamic range, ISO performance and color reproduction of the sensor.

Big Mount = Big & Bright Lenses

Introduction of a big 54 mm Mount. The amount is very large and just similar to or you can say 1 mm less than the Nikon Zseries mount.

The Bigger mount = Bigger / better lenses = more light = Better Image

That’s why we are getting the 28-75mm F2 L lens and not a F2.8 like conventional DSLRs. So even if you are using a Canon 5D Mark 4 sensor, the image quality you get from 24-70 F2 lens will have better DR, Color depth and Noise level compared to 5D IV.

In near future Canon may also develop F0.95 lenses for their mirrorless system cameras, and third party lens makers specifically sigma is able to create some amazing products for EOR R camera.

Big Mount + Shorter Flange Distance compared to Canon Dullframe DSLRs

New lenses are made for a big Mount which is of course bigger than the full frame Mount of conventional DSLRs. And the optics used to develop those lenses are fairly large and passes light more frequently compared to the older L series lenses and at the same time the flange distance is also short. We are confirmed that new camera will going to have better dynamic range and better low light performance compared to the full frame DSLR as we have already seen.

Digic 8 and Compressed RAW files

Introduction of new Digic 8 image processor from Canon,  Digic 8 image processor is not only just a new processing engine, the new image processor bring some new image decoding algorithm as well as we have also seen the introduction of new see raw format file. which was first seen in the EOS m50 camera. Canon dual pixel raw is also stretching its limits in the new Canon EOS R mirrorless camera, so it’s opportunity to photographers of course to get some more dimension in the editing of images.

so you are getting a lot of new stuff in the new Canon EOS R full frame mirrorless camera.

Video Modes

Take a look at the Major difference between the video specs

  • If you want to create 4K videos with Canon camera then you have to be very selective with your lenses. Since you are getting 1.7X crop factor with the camera.
  • 10 Bit 4:2: output us available with Nikon Z6 and Canon EOS R via HDMI cable, Sony remains limited to 8 Bit 4:2:2.
  • Log files in Canon and Nikon (C & N – Log) can be recorded externally only. Sony A7 III record S-log, S-log2 and HLG in SD card which is really very impressive.
  • Canon is the only camera which features super fast Dualpixel CMOS AF and a vari-angle touch display which is highly essential  to shoot youtube videos.

More to Come…

Conclusion

You have to very specific with your choice, if you are a youtuber you may only prefer the Canon EOS R camera, again if you need better low-light performance with more dynamic range you should go with the Nikon Z6 camera. If you are looking for best budget solution then you should go with Sony A7 III and Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 RXD lens.
