Hasselblad announces XCD 25mm F2.5 ultra-wideangle for Low-Light Photography

Hasselblad has announced the XCD 2.5/25V, a 25mm F2.5 lens for its X-system 44x33mm medium format cameras.

HASSELBLAD INTRODUCES THE XCD 2,5/25V, A WIDE-ANGLE LENS FOR NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY

The XCD 2,5/25V is the widest-angle lens in the Hasselblad XCD Versatile (V) series lenses. It has a 20mm full-frame equivalent focal length and a maximum aperture of f/2,5. With its expansive view and large aperture, the XCD 2,5/25V was designed for turning nocturnal cityscapes, starry skies, and indoor portraits into extraordinary captures.

Its wide-angle focal length encompasses a wealth of scenic elements, providing photographers with ample space and composition. The f/2,5 large aperture, coupled with its excellent optical performance, ensures rich highlights and shadows are captured within every frame, even at dusk or after dark.

The XCD 2,5/25V features an optical structure of thirteen elements in ten groups, including four aspherical elements and three ED elements, meeting the high-resolution requirements of 100-megapixel sensors. This ensures images are sharp and crisp from the centre to the edges while effectively suppressing chromatic dispersion.

The optical quality of the lens is also showcased by its robust close-up capabilities. With a 25cm minimum focusing distance and 1:5:8 magnification, its large aperture accentuates close ups, enhancing the expressiveness of subjects like gourmet dishes and flowers.

As part of the Hasselblad XCD V lens series, the design of the XCD 2,5/25V is known for integrating user-friendly functionality with elegance, in both its aesthetics and control. Enhancing the elegance is an engraved “V” insignia on the lens, with the “H” logo engraved on both the focus and control rings.

With a gentle push- pull of the focus ring, photographers can quickly switch between AF and MF modes. ‌In MF mode, intuitive scale marks on the lens keep focus distance and depth of field at a clear glance, enabling precise focus control. Functions such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and exposure compensation can be customised on the control ring, serving as an extension of the camera, allowing users to capture the perfect moment with ease.

The XCD 2,5/25V is equipped with a linear stepping motor and a smaller, lighter focusing lens group, providing a quick and responsive focusing experience when paired with Hasselblad X or V system cameras that support PDAF.

The lens adopts a large-diameter leaf shutter module with a shutter speed of up to 1/4000s. This enables both global shutter and flash synchronisation at all speeds.

The XCD 2,5/25V lens is priced at $3,699 USD / 4,199 EUR and is available to purchase online and at selected retail stores worldwide. For more information about the XCD 2,5/25V

Wild Rumors: Fuji TX-3 Coming on 2028

That’s a weird rumor, the Fuji TX-2 successor will arrive sometime in 2028. So, that’s the roadmap being set by Fuji after the massive success of the Fuji X-100 VI camera. They plan to introduce a more compact body with a large APS-C sensor.

Fuji TX-2 was a Fujifilm TX-2 rangefinder film camera, the original TX-2 was compatible with high-quality Fujifilm TX and Hasselblad XPan lenses. Now fuji is planning to introduce a digital version of the same.

A new source has told me that Fujifilm is currently considering releasing a digital successor to the Xpan/TX series that debuted in the late 90s. If the camera gets the final green light, it will be released in 2028. The reason for releasing it in 2028 is that 2028 will be the 30th anniversary of the 65×24 panoramic film camera TX-1, which was released in 1998.

The TX-1 was jointly developed by Fujifilm and Hasselblad, and was sold by Hasselblad under the name XPan. Its successors, the TX-2 and XPanII, were released in 2003.

Canon R7 Mark II | Canon R9 - Next from Canon

Now we have one more registered Canon camera as we reported a few days ago, and that creates a huge possibility for the replacement of the Canon R7 or R10  as we have discussed in the earlier post too, take a look at the details of Canon registered cameras first

List of Canon Upcoming Cameras

  • ID174 registered on April 19, 2024, with Dual-band Wi-Fi 5. [Cinema Camera]
  • ID179 registered on February 4, 2024, with Dual-band Wi-Fi 5. [Cinema Camera]
  • DS126922 registered on February 4, 2024, with Dual-band Wi-Fi 6& Bluetooth. [Mirrorless Camera]
  • DS126928 registered on March 29, 2024, with Dual-band Wi-Fi 6& Bluetooth. [Mirrorless Camera]
  • DS126904 registered on April 26, 2024, with Dual-band Wi-Fi 5& Bluetooth. [Mirrorless Camera]

Most of the existing APS-C sensor-based cameras, as well as full-frame sensor-based cameras, are up to date and the Canon R5 Mark II and Canon R1 are coming, as well as the Canon R5C Mark II. So after these full-frame Mirrorless cameras, we can expect Canon to Focus on the APS-C range, where the entry-level Zone is already updated, and the oldest two APS-C Mirrorless cameras in Canon lineup waiting to get an update is the Canon R7 Mark II and Canon 10 MK II or Canon R9

Canon Camera Announcement Dates

Canon R3 Mark – September 13, 2021 [R3 is a flagship-level camera Canon will take 4+ years to update this model ]
Canon R5C Mark – 19 Jan 2022
Canon R6 Mark II – 2nd November 2022
Canon R5 – 09 July 2020
Canon R8 – April 18, 2023

Canon R7 – 24 May 2022
Canon R10 – 24 May 2022
Canon R50 – February 7, 2023
Canon R100 – 24 May 2023

Why are we talking about the Canon R7 Mark II right now?

The Canon R100 camera and Canon R50 are the most updated in the entry-level range. Yes, but there is a chance that we may see an update of the Canon R10 camera in August or September of 2024. And similarly, we have a flagship APS-C camera, the Canon R7. The Canon R7 is completely outdated now; it uses the Canon 90D’s DSLR sensor, and the readout speed of that particular sensor is 29.2 milliseconds, which is way worse than the existing sensors or competitors around the camera.

So there is a very high probability that we will see a Canon R7 Mark II camera shortly with an updated 32-megapixel sensor, a DIGIC X image processor, and the ability to record 6K open gate videos and continuous shooting speed up to 40 frames per second in Craw mode.

The other thing we expect is a true successor of the Canon 90D camera, the Canon R9. Since the transition from DSLR to mirrorless, we have a successor to every camera in the mirrorless range, specifically in the APS-C zone, but the 90D successor hasn’t arrived yet. So the Canon R9 can be selected to be the spiritual successor or the mirrorless successor of the highly popular Canon 90D camera.

List of Canon DSLR Cameras with its Mirrorless Successor

Canon 7D – Canon R7
Canon 90D – Canon R9 [Expected]
Canon 850D – Canon R10
Canon 200D Mark II – Canon R50
Canon 1500D – Canon R100

Why is the release of the Canon R9 imminent?

Canon has two options now either to update the Canon R10 Mark II camera with a 32MP Sensor of Canon R7, but even if they do so it will not properly fill the place of the Canon 90D camera, since the Canon 90D was a professional weather-sealed body with Dual cards slots.

There should be a Canon R9 to complete the incomplete Canon RF Mount APS-C Mirrorless lineup.

Breaking News: Canon Registers one more Camera

Canon has registered one more camera at a wireless certification agency, and the model code of the camera is DS 126904. It’s amazing to see that Canon has planned one more camera for the year-end.

List of Canon Upcoming Cameras

  • ID174 registered on April 19, 2024 with Dual-band Wi-Fi 5. [Cinema Camera]
  • ID179 registered on February 4, 2024 with Dual-band Wi-Fi 5. [Cinema Camera]
  • DS126922 registered on February 4, 2024 with Dual-band Wi-Fi 6& Bluetooth. [Mirrorless Camera]
  • DS126928 registered on March 29, 2024 with Dual-band Wi-Fi 6& Bluetooth. [Mirrorless Camera]
  • DS126904 registered on April 26, 2024 with Dual-band Wi-Fi 5& Bluetooth. [Mirrorless Camera]

Now we have many possibilities since Canon looks very aggressive with its announcement schedule, and they already have plans for the Canon R5 Mark II, Canon R1, and Canon R5C Mark II. The next camera could be an APS-C camera or a full-frame camera.

Canon R7 Mark II

Canon’s first APS-C Camera with a Stacked CMOS sensor, Yes, we do have expectations related to Canon R7 Mark II in 2024, Canon R7 was announced back on May 24, 2022. uses a normal FSI CMOS sensor used by Canon 90D Camera with a sensor readout speed of 29.2ms and it needs an update asap. As we all know Canon do have stacked CMOS sensor tech in their hand and there is high possibility that Canon may introduce wither a 32.3 MP stacked CMOS Sensor in Canon R7 Mark II body with the latest BSI Tech.

Canon R9 or Canon R10 Mark II

There is a big possibility we may see a true replacement of the Canon 90D camera. We have a gap between the Canon R6 and Canon R7 cameras. As we all know, we have APS-C cameras like the Sony A6700 [26MP]. We are going to have the Fuji X-T50 camera with a 40MP high-resolution APS-C sensor, so there is a high probability that Canon will release a high-resolution camera. We have one name slot left in the R series, and that’s the Canon R9. So, we have a big chance of getting Canon R9 at the year-end. Another option with an APS-C model is the Canon R10 Mark II arrives in Aug-Sep with a 32.3 MP sensor and upscaled core specification.

Canon R8 Mark II

In the full-frame zone, we already have a bunch of cameras that were announced not too long ago. Even the Canon R8 was announced back in Feb 2023 and it is selling very well. So, expecting a Canon R8 Mark II camera in the year of 2024 will be something that we least expect from Canon in 2024.

stay tuned will bring more updates soon.
