Not good news for compact lovers, during the DSLR to Mirrorless transition process Canon is keeping significantly less attention to the development and announcement of G series compact cameras. Although models like the Canon G7X (Mark II) were very popular among users, none of the G series models are getting proper updates and now Canon started to discontinue G series compacts. It is a clear indication that Canon focuses now on the development and sales of Mirrorless cameras only.
Same in the case of Pansonic, they are also in a transition phase and putting all their attention on the newly announced S series of system cameras and lenses. Not only compact camera’s entire M4/3 line-up is suffering from ignorance, the entire entry-level lineup of M4/3 format cameras now smashed and nothing left apart from an active Panny G100 series model.

Sensors:- Sony DSC-RXIR II has a back-illuminated 35mm full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor with 42MP resolution while Panasonic LX100 has 4/3 format based 12.8MP resolution with MOS sensor, it has been used by many Panasonic mirrorless camera earlier.
Sony RXI R II is supported by advanced Binoz X image processor which maintains the better image resolution even in low-light conditions compare to LX100 and also supports PDAF.
In sports mode the users can captures 42MP files @5fps using DSC-RXIR II while Panasonic LX100 can capture 12.8MP files @ 11fps, The LX100 does have less resolution but it gives a very impressive continuous shooting speed.
Sony DSC-RXIR II has the world’s first Optical Variable Low Pass Filter – The Sony RX1R is the world first camera that features world’s first variable optical low-pass technology inside. The filter allow users to select the desired level of filtration they need, three settings: Off, Standard, and Hi.
Optical Zoom:- LX100 has optical zoom of 3.1x where RXIR II has fixed optical lens. So the optical zoom of LX100, supports the users to capture the required subjects without moving there legs, at the same time it keeps the quality of the images up to the mark. Hence the larger optical zoom of LX100 will sure help you to get images framed as you want.
Aperture Range:- LX100 has a variable aperture of F1.7-F2.8 while RXIR II, has fixed aperture of F2.0. However we have to keep in mind despite of having better aperture at wide-end of the lens Panasonic will not able to provide the amount of DOF that Sony RX1 R II can generate with its F2.0 lens. The biggest reason behind is the difference in sensor size of both the camera. The Sony RX1R II uses fullframe sensor whereas Panasonic LX100 uses a 4/3 format sensor.
Macro:- LX100 has less macro range of 3cm where as RXIR II has macro mode of 14cm. Hence the less macro of LX100 supports close up view of the small subjects such as flowers, insects even small subjects, without approaching towards them compare to RXIR II.
Image Stabilization:- LX100 has optical image stabilization which helps to reduce the camera shake during shooting. It helps the fresher to capture images without worrying about their unwanted hand-shake, hence resulting better and impressive images. No image stabilization present in Sony RX1R II.
AF System:- Sony RXIR II has 399 phase AF points which is supported by its 25 contrast AF points, whereas LX100 uses outdated contrast based AF system. Hence, the AF System of Sony DSC-RXIR II helps to track the subject in full frame with wider AF coverage with more sharp and accuracy. On the other side the Panasonic LX100
ISO:- RXIR II has the expanded ISO of 102400 while the LX100 has expanded ISO is limited to 25600, hence RXIR II will give better low-light performance compared to the RX1R II camera. Hence RXIR II captures magnificent images in low- light conditions compare to LX100.
Shutter speed:- As we know the camera with more shutter speed gains more capacity in capturing the fast action subjects. The Panasonic LX 100 has better shutter speed compare to Sony DSC-RXIR II. So the users can capture the fast moving subjects much quicker and easier.
Top Continuous Shooting Speed:- Panasonic LX 100 has better continuous shooting speed of 11fps compare to 5fps of RXIR II.

A big and hot question that is fair and sensible to arise in everyone’s mind that what’re the reasons that pulled Canon towards building of the 4k compact camera with a weak specification like that? A strange camera that’s in the pipeline for NAB April 2015 along with the features like external viewfinder, 10x optical zoom, aperture is f/2.8-5.6 4k video lens. The camera must be announced way back on 2014 or 13 to gain market share… the rumored specification look outdated when we already have cameras Panasonic FZ100 and Lumix LX100.
Take a look at the specification sheet below
Obviously, the question is reasonable because when Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ1000 Digital Camera in the market is possessing a far better specs with 16x Zoom Lens and large 20.1MP 1″ High Sensitivity MOS Sensor while the canon forthcoming camera will be limited with 10x zoom lens.
And if you prefer image quality more than LX100 is also available with bigger M4/3 sensor, compact 3X zoom lens and 4K recording.
However,we can say that 4k isn’t everything to a camera now a days, a camera needs superior specifications that can win the heart of the users by satisfying them in all the ways.
So by comparing all the cameras one can faithfully say that the steps of canon towards building this unnamed camera might be proved one mistake to them.
The solution of this question would be how much this canon camera can make a business in the end?
