In the latest patent, it looks like Canon is working to improve the AF Acquisition Time of the camera.
TVAF Unit and Phase Difference AF
TVAF is actually Contrast Detect AF unit, which is highly accurate as well as time consuming. It calculates the amount of Lens movment actually requires to focus on Subject, but it do need more time. In genral Plane Phase difference unit works in combination of TVAF for higher aquraccy. Canon working to improve the AF performance of the camera by adding next genration of TVF unit which will work in combination of DPAF pixels and advance AI programs.
Don’t get confused with Phase detect AF system, we are here talking about Phase Difference AF and TVF Unit. In Dual pixel CMOS AF System, each photo diode detects the signal separately. This allows photodiodes to be used together, as a Phase difference detection AF sensor.
Overall from the patent docuements it’s look like Canon is working to improve the AF lock time of their future cameras.

On Sep 29, 2020, we have told you that the Sony A7 IV camera may arrive with a brand new 30MP FF sensor (IMX 554 DQC). Now multiple websites are posting the same information, that really adds more confimration to our previous published post
Sony A7 IV Rumored Specifications
- A74 will have a new sensor with faster readout and will not recycle the 24 MP one. My source told me it will be in the 30-32 MP region
- The EVF will have 3,69 Mdots and not 5,76 Mdots
- Most probably the LCD will also be on the cheap side but the image quality and AF will be top notch
- The video will certainly be 4K 60p and will feature the new menus.
- The price will be in the $2499 region
The specs looks somehow similar to the specs we have published more than a month ago.

As per the latest rumors surfaced over the web, Canon is working in two different APS-C RF Mount bodies. May be these are the working protoypes of the same model. The only noticable difference is one has EVF and other doesn’t. As per latest rumors, if everthing goes on schedule we will see Canon APS-C RF Mount camera on 2nd half of 2021.
