Sony A7V Rumors 2025: 'Be Alpha' Event in Barcelona on October 16, 2025

Main post image Sony event

The excitement is now at an all-time high, as Sony is hosting an event called Be Alpha in Barcelona on October 16, 2025. If you look at Sony’s past announcement patterns,  this could be the venue for unveiling the next A7 Series flagship camera, so in this article, we are going to discuss the possibility of the arrival of the Sony A7V at the October 16 event and the latest set of information we have related to the camera.

What We Know About the Sony ‘Be Alpha’ Event in Barcelona

Sony’s ‘Be Alpha’ events have a history of major announcements. Now, why are we saying so? Since the Sony A7 IV was announced back on October 21, it was a kind of similar event, or we can say a Barcelona gathering at that time. It is quite obvious to at least consider the possibility that this is the A7V camera during the event.

Sony A7V Oct-Nov 2025 Timeline:

So, even before this Barcelona event news happened, the announcement timeline window that we were getting (as we have discussed in our previous post too) is between October to November 2025. So, we are expecting the arrival of the Sony A7V on or before November 2025, and in between October and November, obviously, the Oct 16, Barcelona event looks like a sweet spot for Sony.

Sony A7V Release Date: When Can We Expect It?

Take a look at the set of information we have published earlier on our website, related to the arrival date of the Sony A7V camera.

  • Announcement Timeline: Expected in October or November 2025, potentially at the Barcelona event on October 16.
  • Shipping Date: Early 2026, likely Q1, to allow for production and distribution.

So these are the initial set of information we have related to the announcement timeline of the Sony A7V camera. Right now, we do not have any confirmed set of core specifications coming out from highly trusted sources. We do have several rumored specifications related to the Sony A7V that include the possibility of a 33MP modified sensor or a 44MP sensor that may arrive inside the Sony A7V camera body.

Stay tuned, we will post an update soon

Top Compact Cameras 2025: Canon SX740 HS Hits #2 in Yodobashi Rankings

Image of Top Compact Cameras 2025 Canon SX740 HS Hits #2 in Yodobashi Rankings

Innovative, newcomer, or timeless favourite, these two keyboards perfectly define the Yodobashi Camera’s sales rankings for the first half of September 2025. The Ricoh GR IV hold the No.1 spot of the sales ranking, the Canon PowerShot SX740 HS secured second position in the ranking, it does shows how much people still love 40X pocket zoom cameras like the SX740 HS. Canon has just restored the production of the Compacts like Canon SX740 HS, Canon G7X Mark III and Canon ELPH 360HS camera, and the 2nd rank of the SX740HS is something that I was expecting this month, since as per the Canon sales stats itself Canon Compact Camera Comeback: Sales Soared 187% precious month, so it will also reflect in sales report card of worldwide agencies.

Breaking Down Yodobashi’s Compact Digital Camera Sales Rankings

It’s quite obvious from the ranking that the demand for compact Zoom cameras is popular among the latest generation of smartphone users, although the Canon SX740 HS camera was announced back in 2018.  And basically, most of their iOS smartphones don’t give true 17X Optical zoom, including the latest iPhone 17 Pro, where we have Canon SX 740 HS features true 40X digital zoom, which gives, in turn, higher image quality and a proper 4K video capture experience.

Here’s the complete top 10 from Yodobashi:

Rank Camera Model
1 Ricoh GR IV
2 Canon PowerShot SX740 HS
3 Sony VLOGCAM ZV-1 II
4 Panasonic LUMIX TZ99
5 Fujifilm X half
6 Sony Cyber-shot RX1R III
7 Ricoh GR IIIx
8 Kodak PIXPRO C1
9 Fujifilm X100VI
10 Leica D-LUX8

Ricoh GR IV: The No.1 Compact Camera Making Waves with Premium Features

The Ricoh GR IV is a recent announcement from Ricoh; it’s a premium compact camera. Available at $1500 at B&H Store USA. The Camera is always in high demand, so if ur lucky, you will find it in stock; otherwise, most of us keep waiting for its stock to arrive. Take a look at the core specification of the camera (Ricoh’s special recipe that makes it No.1 in the market)

  • 25.7MP APS-C BSI CMOS Sensor: Actually, the same 26 MP Sony sensor we have seen in most of the Fuji cameras, as well as the Sony A6700
  • New 28mm f/2.8 Lens (Full-Frame Equiv.): Upgraded lens and optimised for optimal performance
  • Improved AF and Low-Light Focusing: Hybrid Sensor locks and tracks the subject
  • 5-Axis 6-Stop Shake Reduction System: You can grab clear images even in low-light conditions with a slower shutter speed with the help of an in-camera IBIS mechanism
  • 3.0″ 1.04m-Dot Touchscreen LCD: Nice and easy display screen, with quick access to basic settings
  • 53GB Built-In Memory & microSD Card Slot: That’s the best part, being a photographer, if you even forget to carry ur memory card, you still have 53GB space left
  • 35mm and 50mm Focal Length Crop Modes: No need to worry, even if you have a prime lens, the 35mm and 50mm focal length gives you an excellent option to recompose your image.

As you can see from the specification, it’s highly impressive and made for photographers. The demand for the camera always remains high, but the supply shortages may affect future rankings of the GR IV Camera.

The Canon PowerShot SX740 HS’s showing is a strong presence just after its production revival. For the latest on top compact cameras like the Canon SX740 HS and Ricoh GR IV, follow thenewcamera.com for expert insights and updates.

Leica Upcoming Cameras and Lenses in 2025: Rumours, Releases, and What to Expect

Main post image - Leica Upcoming Cameras and Lenses in 2025: Rumours, Releases, and What to Expect

Leica is set to have multiple announcements soon. As we approach the end of 2025, more and more information related to upcoming cameras is surfacing on the web. All the information we are discussing here comes straight from the highly trusted rumour mill Leica Rumours. In this guide, we provide a detailed breakdown of each core specification available to us, alongside the specs, release timelines, and why they’re generating buzz among enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Introduction to Leica’s 2025 Roadmap

Leica engineers and the marketing team always work very precisely. They know what their consumer base actually requires, and that’s why, despite having such a limited market reach compared to Canon, Nikon, and Sony, they are continuously evolving with time.

Leica’s product strategy has always balanced heritage with cutting-edge technology. Before 2025 ends, Leica’s strategy is not only to revive but also to extend the Q, M, and SL series. According to the latest rumours that surfaced on the web, Leica announcements will begin from   October 2025.

The bulk of 2025’s excitement revolves around compact full-frame cameras, rangefinder evolutions, and versatile lenses for both M-mount and L-mount systems. Let’s dive into the details.

Upcoming Leica Cameras in 2025

Leica Q3 monochrome coming? Leica is always known for its dedicated monochrome lineup of cameras., Before Q3, Leica Q2 Monochrome was announced back on 10 Nov 2020, so it’s been almost 6 years, and people have been waiting. The Q2 is one of the only few cameras in the B&H store that got an average of 5 Star rating from its customers. Take a look at what real reviewers have to say about the camera: “As a 78-year-old lifelong photographer, I’m thrilled with my Leica Q2 Monochrome, purchased from B&H Photo. This rugged camera delivers stunning black-and-white images with unmatched clarity and depth. It’s simply amazing, elevating my work to new heights. B&H Photo proved completely reliable, and I highly recommend them for their exceptional service.” Also, take a look at another review, “The first image I took with the camera left me stunned. I felt goosebumps rise on my skin. The tonality, the clarity, I didn’t think a monochrome image could render such depth! I realize there were so many shades of color within B&W. The image felt emotive– there was a pop to it. Some have called it the Medium format look. I call it the WOW-effect.

Now it’s time to have a closer look at the upcoming Leica Q3 and its available set of Details

Q3 Monochrome

Leica Q3 Monochrom

Leica Q3 Monochrome edition coming on October 16, 2025, the camera will have an enhanced B&W version of the existing 60MP sensor, but without a colour filter array or low-pass filter in order to record only black-and-white imagery with greater sharpness and detail. By removing the CFA, this camera becomes higher sensitivity, also improves, along with reduced noise. And on Top of the Sensor, we have an excellent Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH. Lens, able to resolve the maxim potential of the sensor.

Leica Q3 Monochrome Specification

  • 60MP Full-Frame B&W CMOS Sensor
  • Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH. Lens
  • 8K30, 4K60 & 4:2:2 10-Bit, FHD ProRes HQ
  • Phase-Detection AF & Optical IS
  • Triple Resolution Technology
  • No Colour Array or Low Pass Filter
  • 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm Crop Modes
  • 5.76m-Dot OLED Electronic Viewfinder
  • 3″ 1.84m-Dot Tilting Touchscreen LCD
  • ISO 50-100000, Up to 15-fps Shooting
  • SD UHS-II Slot; USB-C and HDMI Ports
  • IP52 Weather Sealing

Expected Release: Around October 16, 2025

Why It’s Exciting: Monochrome sensors specifically optimised to capture different layers and tonal quality of monochromatic pictures, yes, certainly a perfect tool for fine art and street photography, offering noise-free high-ISO shots.

Priced: $7,000–$8,000 [ Expected], it’s a premium tool for purists who value Leica’s signature look without color distractions.

Variants: A 43mm lens version might follow in 2026, expanding options for portrait and landscape shooters

Leica M11 V Image

Leica ME V1 \ M11V

The Leica M11-V eliminates the OVF and rangefinder, replacing it with a built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF)

The Leica M series is also known as the rangefinder series. The M Rangefinder system OVF is essential for its rangefinder designation because it integrates a mechanical rangefinder mechanism. With the help of a rangefinder mechanism, the camera allows manual focusing by aligning superimposed images from two optical windows in a central patch within the OVF, and it displays a bright frame line for composition.

But now things are changing rapidly, as per the Chinese online shop M&K Kamera store, the upcoming camera name will be M11V, and it doesn’t have an OVF and rangefinder section; both of the windows for the rangefinder are missing. The slider on the front, which usually selects the rangefinder frame lines, is said to offer two programmable functions to adjust the display of the electronic viewfinder.

Technically, the tech has become much advanced, the SL series and the Q series in Leica (L-Mount Cameras), and most of their camera uses Hybrid AF sensors with the Fastest image processors. And Lenses also support focusing, but whether Leica will use the same methodology in the M series remains to be seen. It’s like merging the M series together with SL and the Q series. Which most of the M-series photographers will hate.

Leica ME V1 \ M11V Specification

Key Features:

  • High-resolution full-frame sensor (possibly 60MP, similar to the M11).
  • Integrated EVF with real-time exposure simulation and focus peaking.
  • Traditional M-mount compatibility for Leica’s legendary lenses.
  • Compact, brass-body construction with weather sealing.

New Built-in EVF

  • 0.5 inch & 5.76 MP
  • 0.76x Magnification
  • Focus aids
  • Diopter compensation

New FN-Button

  • Frame selection lever with dual FN functionality for the viewfinder

Puristic Design

  • Clean front without a rangefinder window
  • Diamond pattern leatherette

Leica Content Credentials

60/36/18 Megapixel

  • Full-frame BSI image sensor with triple resolution technology

Maestro III Image Processor

  • 64GB Internal memory
  • Made in Germany

Estimated price

: Around €8,000 (approximately $10,000 USD

Thenewcamera.com Take

Leica is known for the Rangefinder series camera, pls don’t cut your roots that gave you the name and face or identity. As per my POV, Leica already has a Q series of line where they have showcased the most advanced set of tech, they have. The Leica M series is like a heritage edition, without disturbing its core; Leica should continue its production and R&D.

Leica SL3 Reporter

A special edition of the SL3 full-frame mirrorless camera, the Reporter variant is tailored for photojournalists and adventurers. This edition emphasises durability, discretion, and rapid deployment in demanding environments.

The core specification of the camera remains the same as that of the Leica SL3. You will be getting the same 60MP Full-Frame BSI CMOS IBIS Sensor paired with a powerful Maestro IV Image Processor, 8GB Buffer. Apart from that, Hybrid AF System with PDAF & Contrast AF on the video side, we have 8K, C8K, 4K, C4K & FHD 10-Bit Recording.  It’s more like a limited edition series with some cosmetic improvement that will arrive in limited quantity for reporters and photojournalists, and adventure lovers.

Priced around $7,500 (body only), it’s bundled with essentials like extra batteries and a protective strap.

New Leica Phone image

Hasselblad X2D II 100C Dominates Yodobashi's September First-Half Camera Sales Rankings

Main post image

That was really a big surprise to know that when the high-end Hasselblad X2D II 100C claimed the top spot in Yodobashi (According to the latest data we have from CAPA CAMERA WEB), since it’s not an entry-level camera nor does it belong to the budget category, but people love it so much, I think the time has arrived for Hasselblad to expand their Mirrorless range to different sensor sizes.

Camera SALES Ranking 1st half of Sep 2025.

  1. Hasselblad X2D II 100C Body
  2. Sony α7C II Zoom Lens Kit
  3. Fujifilm X-M5 XC15-45mm Lens Kit
  4. Sony α7C II Body
  5. Canon EOS R5 Mark II Body
  6. Canon EOS R50 Double Zoom Kit
  7. Sony VLOGCAM ZV-E10 II Double Zoom Lens Kit
  8. Nikon Z50II Double Zoom Kit
  9. Sony VLOGCAM ZV-E10 II Power Zoom Lens Kit
  10. Canon EOS R6 Mark II Body

The Ranking we have below, from September 1st to 15th, 2025, showcases a diverse mix of cameras. Breaking it down by brand, Sony dominates with four models in the top 10, followed by Canon with three. Nikon, Hasselblad, and Fujifilm each secure one spot.

Unfortunately, Nikon is not that much visible in the list; Canon and Sony dominate the entire landscape of rankings. Let’s hope the Nikon ZR and Zf silver models will show up in the ranking next month

It’s great to see a premium camera gaining popularity among users. The camera + 35-100mm lens will cost you approximately $12K, the body itself priced at $7399, and in Japan, the Hassy will cost you approx over 1 million yen.

Fujifilm’s X-E5 kit lens and body, which were ranked first and second in their last ranking, have fallen out of the rankings early on, which is concerning. Could this be due to a supply shortage? But, on a brighter note, the Fujifilm X-M5 XC15-45mm Lens Kit climbed from sixth to third, indicating strong demand for compact, versatile options in the APS-C segment.

Canon is sure making its strong presence felt in the Japanese camera market with the EOS R5 Mark II, EOS R50, and EOS R6 Mark II all ranking in the top 10. Not only is Japan, the Canon R6 Mark II is the best-selling mirrorless camera of September in Amazon USA, replacing the Canon R50, which was leading the #1 best-selling mirrorless camera position in Amazon USA for a long time.

Breaking News: DJI Loses Lawsuit, Remains Blacklisted as a Chinese Military Company

Main post image

Well, that’s really a very deep setback for DJI, one of the world’s top Drone makers, got shocking bad news when a U.S. federal judge ruled on September 26, 2025, that the company will stay on the Pentagon’s blacklist of firms with alleged Chinese military ties. Now, its really hard for DJI to escape from this decision and uphold DJI’s designation under Section 1260H of the National Defence Authorisation Act (NDAA), citing “substantial evidence” of links to China’s defence sector.

But, that doesn’t mean the DJI ban now bound to happen in Dec 2025, No – Yes, they are interrelated to each other, but both are separate issues. SO, if you are someone like a drone pilot, surveyor, filmmaker, or hobbyist, for sure, we have to understand one thing first: the initial decision does heighten uncertainty around DJI’s future in the U.S. market.

Let’s break down the entire situation and make everything very clear, the latest development about the DJI 2025 Drone band and how you can take some small steps now to protect your aerial photography and cinematography of the future

Breaking Down the DJI Lawsuit: What Happened and Why It Matters

DJI, a manufacturing base in China, and the best thing, that DJI controls over 70% of the world drone market. DJI sued the U.S. Department of Defence (DoD) back in 2022 to challenge its inclusion on the Pentagon’s “Chinese Military Companies” list. Once they are included in the list, it really becomes impossible to deliver drone equipment to gov bodies.

The big problem raised for DJI when U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman rejected DJI’s claims on September 26, 2025, stating the DoD provided adequate evidence of ties, including DJI’s involvement in China’s defence industrial base.

Thenewcamera.com take – If DJI is really not involved, they should give clear evidence that they are not involved in any way. Option 2 is that they can develop an R&D and manufacturing unit in the USA. And bring as much transparency in the development process, so no loopholes should be left. Shifting the data centre from China to the US isn’t a tough job for a company like DJI; if they really want to remain available in the USA, they have to take some drastic steps to save themselves before the permanent ban takes place.

Back to the topic, DJI argued the military interconnection label causes “ongoing financial and reputational harm” without due process, but the court disagreed, allowing the designation to stand. As a result:

  • Immediate Impacts: U.S.-based federal agencies and contractors are not able to directly purchase drones or any other equipment from DJI
  • Broader Ripple Effects: The ruling stigmatises DJI as a national security risk, amplifying concerns over data privacy, espionage, and forced labour links under the Uyghur Forced Labour Prevention Act (UFLPA).

DJI has indicated that it will move forward to defend this. SO, in the near future, they can appeal to other legal avenues in the US, but for now, the recent decision, the blacklist label remains over the DJI

Clarifying the DJI Blacklist vs. the Potential 2025 U.S. Drone Ban: Are They the Same?

No, the Pentagon blacklist and the upcoming drone ban are separate things,  but yes, somehow they are deeply interconnected with each other’s developments. Let me explain it in simple words

How Are the DJI Blacklist and 2025 Drone Ban Interconnected?

These aren’t isolated events; the blacklist directly influences the ban’s likelihood:

  • Security Narrative Reinforcement: Since they have already lost the initial battleground, lawsuit loss provides “substantial evidence” of military ties. Now, it has become very easy for federal security auditors to impose a permanent ban due to connection with data transmission, potential backdoors, and espionage risks. Auditors will scrutinise everything, but chances are less to escape.
  • Policy Momentum: The blacklist has already led to state-level actions (e.g., Florida and Missouri have already grounded lots of DJI drones used for surveillance purposes ). If the audit fails, DJI joins Huawei on the FCC Covered List and will become completely isolated from the US market.

The lawsuit defeat weakens DJI’s position, although DJI has committed to U.S. data security audits, but if the audit fails, an immediate ban will take place in Dec 2025.

Getting a new drone like the DJI Mini 5 PRO isn’t possible in the USA. The best thing is to Stockpile Essentials: Like Buy DJI drones (already available at a deep discount on Amazon since they are clearing their stock), batteries, and accessories ASAP. Lightweight models under 249g (e.g., DJI Mini 4 Pro) may evade stricter FAA Remote ID rules even if bans hit. DJI Mini 4K Drone Plunges to Historic Low of $249 Ahead of Amazon’s October Big Deal Days

DJI Osmo Nano: 4K 60FPS Mode Vanishes After Update – Rollback Possible, But Will DJI Bring It Back?

Main post image

DJI Osmo Nano has become very popular after its release, and a lot of people are buying this ultralight 52-gram POV camera. This wearable camera is one of the best for cyclists, runners, and adventure seekers, as well as daily life content creators, to record their activities. But just after its purchase, many people have noticed that the camera comes with 4K 60FPS mode. But, with the recent firmware update, it quietly axed the 4K 60FPS option in 4:3 mode, which has made a lot of users frustrated and scrambling for solutions. If you are one of its early users, then you have noticed that option, so let’s take a look in detail at what went wrong, to determine if it is possible to restore the previous update.

The Osmo Nano: A Tiny Titan With Big Promises

DJI Osmo Nano is one of the smallest DJI action cameras yet, specifically designed for hands-free capture. The camera measures only about 57mm × 29mm × 28mm, making it very small and easy to carry without adding significant weight. One of the most compact and advanced POV cameras DJI has ever made.

The twist and turn head starts when the official specs list 4K (4:3) at up to 50FPS, with options like 3840 × 2880 at 24/25/30/48/50FPS. But, out of the box, the camera was able to deliver 60FPS mode in 4:3 – a welcome surprise for smoother playback on 60Hz+ screens. “After powering the camera on for the 1st time, I was surprised to see that 60FPS was available,” shared one Reddit user in a post that’s quickly gaining traction. Excitement was short-lived, though. Post-firmware update, the option vanished, forcing creators into 50FPS or dropping to 2.7K 60FPS, which comes with lower bitrates and compromised image quality. As the user lamented, “Frame pacing at 50FPS does not look good when watched on 60/120/240Hz displays.”

This isn’t just a minor glitch; it’s a downgrade that hits right where it hurts – fluidity and professional-grade output. Why would DJI tease users with a feature only to yank it away?

Echoes of the Osmo Action 5 Pro: Chipset Woes and Launch Hiccups

Digging deeper, it reminds me of the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro, which was released with a Qualcomm chipset on a 4nm process with the new processor. DJI also introduced new algorithms for better efficiency and heat management. After the announcement, the DJI Action 5 Pro faced backlash over reduced bitrates compared to its predecessor. To prevent overheating at higher frame rates, the new algorithms worked on lower bitrates. This resulted in artifacts in high-contrast scenes. Finally, the users stepped in and demanded fixes via online forums and social media channels like X (formerly known as Twitter), and the good thing is, DJI listened – rolling out a firmware update that introduced a high-bitrate mode, and guess what, that only resulted in the cost of some battery life.

Similarly, as per recent speculations, a similar style of hardware is being used inside Osmo Nano, although DJI hasn’t confirmed the chipset. They are probably capping features to prevent overheating or instability of the newly announced Nano. The 60FPS removal could be a precautionary measure to address early bugs, very similar to the bitrate cap on the Action 5 Pro.

What This Means for Osmo Nano Owners – And the Future of DJI Updates

This firmware fiasco, the loss of 4K 60FPS in 4:3, is a blow, but there is some hope also. If users complain about the loss of mode and make others aware of the issue, it creates a set of possibilities that, in the next update, they may roll back the feature again for users.

But, if you are someone who is facing the same issue, you should join the Reddit forum and express your concern there – collective pressure has worked before.
