Nikon France Confirms they are Working on Next Gen of Compacts

While talking to “Chasseurs d’Images” French Mag Nikon France President confirms that Nikon is working on next generations of compacts to compete against smartphones.

Nikon did not stop producing the 810 camera

I feel the first point is bit doubtful since major retails outlets (B&H Store, Amazon.fr) listed S810c camera as no longer available

2. Nikon has plenty “good quality sensors”

They do have good contact with third-party sensor maker(s) And at the same time we agree that DXO Lab DSLR test score tables are dominated by Nikon DSLRs.

Yes, of course we do know that Nikon D810 is coming at end of July and Nikon D610 replacement is also expected in next few months.

Sensor

Canon 6D mark 2 features newly developed 26.2 megapixel sensor has the Canon 5D Mark 4 uses 30.4 megapixel full frame sensor

Now let’s talk about the technology used inside for the camera. Both camera utilizes dual pixel CMOS autofocusing Technology, hence technically the sensors are same. you are getting only 4 megapixel difference in both the camera nothing else, if you compare only sensor

ISO Range

The ISO range of Canon 5D Mark 4 camera starts from 50 to 102400 and on the other side we have Canon 6D Mark II and its Max ISO range is exactly same as of Canon 5D Mark IV. But, we have some slight difference in standard ISO range the Canon 6D Mark II offers standard ISO range of 40000, where is the Canon 5D Mark IV even limited to 32000.

AF System

Auto focusing system of the camera Canon 5D Mark 4 and 6D mark 2 camera features dual auto focusing system, both the system uses Phase module when viewfinder of DSLRs are active and when live view mode and video recording is on then both the camera uses sensor based AF. Canon Dualpixel CMOS AF sensor Will give you blazing fast auto focusing speed.

Which AF system is inferior or which one is superior compared to other ? both Canon 6D mark 2 camera and 5D Mark 4 dual pixel CMOS autofocusing Technology. so, the sensor based Auto-focusing system of both the camera is exactly same. While talking about the Phase AF module of both camera then Canon 5D Mark 4 is more advance and features a 61 point Auto focusing system whereas the Canon 6D mark 2 camera features 45 point based model which is inferior compared to the 5D Mark IV .

Shutter

The Canon 5D Mark IV features shutter speed 1/8000 whereas the Canon 6D Mark II camera features shutter upto 1/4000.

Video

Video (Full HD vs 4K) Canon 6D Mark II camera remains limited to Full HD video mode. Whereas, the canon 5D Mark IV camera can capture 4K video, so if you shoot video as well as images then you can get the 5D Mk IV. Yes. the one feature 5D MK4 is missing is video stabilization (electronic).which the 6D Mk 2 already have.

Display

The display of Canon 6D Mark II camera features vari-angle display touch screen. Canon 5D Mark IV camera features bit large ( 3.0” vs 3.2”) fixed screen. BTW, the resolution of Canon 5D mark IV is high compared to 6D II.

Size And Weight

Not any big difference you can spot on weight or size of both the camera, but somehow the Canon 6D Mark II is slightly smaller and weight less compared to the Canon 5D Mark IV camera.

Storage Slot (Single vs Dual)

Canon 5D Mark IV offers you Dual storage card slot whereas the Canon 6D Mark II camera remain limited to single card slot. Dual card slots gives you more backup and options to shoot. For example with Dual card slots you can set RAW on one and JPEG on the other, or you can simply shoot on the first card and when it fills the second card automatically takes over.

Conclusion

If you are a still shooter then Canon 6D Mark II camera is sufficient for you, you can spend you extra $ in buying some good glasses for your camera. The Canon 5D Mark IV camera do have slight advantage in Phase AF module, Dual slots, shutter and Video, If you want a 4K capable DSLR with excellent still shooting capability then go with 5D Mark IV.

Although the sensor and the image processor of Canon 6D mark 2 camera is advanced compared to 5D Mark III but the ISO range of both the camera is exactly same. the base ISO of both the camera is ISO 50 and the max (Expendable) ISO range is 102400.

Image processor

the image processor of the camera is quite different, the Canon 6D mark 2 camera features better image processor compare to the 5D Mark 3 camera. Canon 5D Mark 3 camera is using DIGIC 5+ Image Processor where are the 60 Mark II is using DIGIC 7 image processor. image processor is responsible for overall speed of the camera and not only overall speed

Phase AF Module

DSLRs use Phase AF module only when a photographer use viewfinder for composing shots. When a photographer switch to Live view or video mode then sensor based AF system gets activated.
