Insta360 Founder and CEO JK Liu confirmed that the company is working on TWO (2) brand-new mirrorless cameras. One we have already seen back in April 2026 (the Z 1): the camera used an M4/3-format sensor and an M4/3rd Olympus 14-42mm Lens. That clearly indicates Insta360 is about to target mainstream mirrorless cameras and camera giants like Canon and Sony with their latest tech.
The most interesting part is CEO JK Liu has also said that one of the cameras has a completely unconventional form factor that Liu described as “a shape no one has ever thought of before.”
The confirmation came during an interview with Japanese publication Mynavi News on the sidelines of the opening of Insta360’s first Japanese flagship store in Asakusa, Tokyo.

When asked about long-standing social media rumors of Insta360 entering the mirrorless camera segment, Liu stated:
“At this point, there are limited things I can talk about, but we are developing two types of mirrorless cameras.”
He further revealed that the two models have completely different characteristics. Regarding one of them, he said:
“One of them has a surprising shape that you have never thought of before.”

Liu suggested this unusual design could change the traditional way people use cameras – the conventional process of framing, focusing, and pressing the shutter button. The U.S. Federal Communications Commission is moving to stop further sales of the DJI Mini 5 Pro in the United States. The ban is expected to take effect in mid-to-late March 2027.
Why is the ban coming in March 2027, and why should you worry if you’re really interested in a DJI Mini 5 Pro, whether you already own one or are planning to buy one?
Why the Mini 5 Pro Is Affected
If you want to own a Mini 5 Pro, you should buy it before March 2027. We’re going to explain exactly why. And if your business depends on this particular drone. Especially if you’re a wedding cinematographer or create a lot of aerial content, then you should seriously consider keeping one, two, or even three extra units before the commercial sales ban takes effect.
It’s time to explain why the ban is expected in March 2027. As per the latest July update, the FCC has proposed updating the definition of “military-grade” drones. Under this proposal, any foreign-made drone that carries LiDAR sensors is now classified as military-grade and will no longer be allowed for further sale or import. That same LiDAR sensor is also widely used for high-precision 3D mapping, which is one of the main reasons the FCC is targeting it.
The FCC’s own explanation for targeting LiDAR is clear. According to the public notice, these systems offer:
“enhanced capability to conduct detailed three-dimensional terrain mapping, penetrate dense foliage to reveal hidden structures, assist in autonomous navigation in GPS-denied environments, and conduct covert reconnaissance under a range of environmental conditions.”
Because of this, the agency is classifying LiDAR-equipped foreign drones as “military-grade” and seeking to cut off further sales.

The proposal specifically states that, if adopted, all parties must cease importation and marketing activities 180 days after the final decision is published in the Federal Register.
We all know what happens with public comments. They generally go into the trash bin. DJI has done a lot of campaigning during the first ban, which happened back in December 2025. They did a lot. They initiated paid campaigns and opened dedicated pages for collecting public comments. Nothing worked at that time. So, it clearly indicates that they don’t care about public opinion. They have already taken the decision when they implemented the rule, and they just have to follow the procedure to make sure it happens.
What DJI Says
DJI has strongly opposed the move. In its official statement, the company called the proposal a “total reversal” from the FCC’s previous position.
DJI stated:
“Although the proposal is framed as targeting ‘military-grade’ drones, the FCC’s definition could include drones with thermal imaging or LiDAR capabilities… People could continue using DJI products they already own, but the same models in use today might no longer be available to purchase in the future.”
The company also emphasised that it does not design or manufacture military-grade equipment and has consistently opposed the weaponisation of civilian drones.

Finally, the FCC is now planning to impose a retroactive ban on DJI, which means existing drones announced by DJI in previous years will be massively affected. Not one, two, or three models, but a series of models that are capable of using LiDAR sensors inside them, since according to the FCC, drones that are using LiDAR sensors for obstacle avoidance can also be used for military purposes, and that’s why they are dangerous for the United States of America.
And not only two or three models will be affected, as they mentioned in the FCC document. As I have said, a series of drones are going to be affected by DJI.
How does this sudden change happen? Earlier, the rules were strict about the weight capacity. If a drone was able to lift 55 lbs (25 kg) or more with certain capabilities, they were considered military-grade under the rules. But now, with the updated definition, even consumer-grade drones that are under the 250-gram category will be considered military-grade drones if they use any sort of LiDAR sensor, which many modern technologies use, and they are now banned.
What Notice Did the FCC Issue?
On July 21, 2026, the FCC released Public Notice DA 26-758.
In this notice, the agency proposed to stop the further importation and marketing of certain previously approved foreign-made drones that it now labels as “military-grade.” One of the main categories under this definition is any drone that uses LiDAR sensors.
Which Drone Models Have LiDAR and Are Affected?
The proposal does not care whether LiDAR is used for mapping or only for obstacle avoidance. If the drone has LiDAR sensors, it is subject to the restriction.
Currently, the models most affected are:
- DJI Air 3S
- DJI Mini 5 Pro
- DJI Neo 2
- Avata models that use LiDAR (including Avata 360)
These drones use LiDAR primarily for obstacle avoidance. According to the FCC’s own definition, that is enough to put them on the list.
Other categories such as thermal imaging, agricultural spray drones, docking stations, and drones over 55 lbs (25 kg) are also covered, but for most photographers and content creators, the Air 3S and Mini 5 Pro are the biggest concern.
Why the Next 30 Days Matter
Public comments are open until September 2, 2026.
On paper, this is the window for people to submit feedback. In reality, history shows that public comments in national security-related FCC cases rarely change the final decision. Once the FCC has already stated that it has “tentatively concluded” a restriction is needed, the direction is usually locked.
That is why the next few weeks are critical for buyers.
If you are planning to buy an Air 3S, Mini 5 Pro, or related LiDAR models, or if you want spare batteries, propellers, ND filters, and other accessories, this is the window to secure them while stock is still freely available through normal channels.
Waiting for a final decision may leave you with limited or no new supply.
Existing Owners Are Still Safe
If you already own these drones, you can continue to use and fly them. The proposal only targets new imports and sales. It does not stop people from operating drones they already have.

For years, budget-friendly DJI camera drones gave independent filmmakers, wedding videographers, real estate photographers, and content creators access to high-quality aerial footage without spending enterprise-level money.

DJI Osmo 360 II Pre-Orders Starting Today in China

Finally, the wait is over. DJI Osmo 360 II is available for pre-order in China from August 7, 2026. As is obvious, DJI initially announces its products in China, and after that, they make a global announcement.
So if you are in China, you can place a pre-order starting today at 8 PM Beijing time. The worldwide announcement will happen in the next one or two weeks, since the DJI Osmo 360 II has already reached retailers worldwide. However, the announcement will be done in different phases throughout the month of August.
DJI is opening pre-orders for the Osmo 360 II in China later today.
According to multiple Chinese technology outlets, DJI announced that pre-orders will start on August 7, 2026 at 8:00 PM Beijing time (China Standard Time, UTC+8).

What we know so far
So far, what we know is that the new upcoming DJI Osmo 360 II features replaceable lenses, and that was the need of most of the creators. The oval-shaped lenses get easily scratched when you put them in your pocket or on any surface. These oval lenses put the entire load of the camera on themselves, resulting in scratches in a very short period of time. The biggest problem with the first-generation Osmo 360 camera was the non-replaceable lenses, and with the arrival of the Osmo 360 II, DJI solves the biggest problem.

 DJI OSMO 360 II USA availability
The DJI Osmo 360 II is currently one of the few 2026 DJI products still legally eligible for sale in the United States because it received its FCC authorization on December 21, 2025 – one day before the Covered List cutoff that blocked new authorizations. In contrast, the Osmo Pocket 4 never received a usable grant in time, and the Pocket 4 Pro was granted on the exact cutoff date of December 22, 2025, so both remain blocked from official US sale. Once the Osmo 360 II is officially launched, it can therefore be imported and sold through normal US retail channels, though the exact timing will still depend on when DJI decides to release it.

So finally, we have a series of product shots of the upcoming Insta360 Luna Pro. These product shots themselves confirm that the announcement is near.
All the images published below are of high-quality product photography showing the camera from multiple angles – front, three-quarter, rear, side, and bottom – plus detailed close-ups of the Leica Super-Summicron lens module. What’s New in These Photos
The images confirm several important design details:
- Clean, production-ready body in both Pure White (with orange accents) and Black (with red accents)
- Single Leica-branded camera module with clear Super-Summicron 1:1.8/20 ASPH. engraving
- Heat-sink style venting on the lens module
- Flip-out touchscreen showing real UI elements, including 8K 30 recording mode and sample footage
- Rear speaker grille
- USB-C port on the bottom
- Independent zoom rocker and control layout consistent with the Luna series
- Detachable screen design language matching the already-released Luna Ultra
Both colour options look excellent. The white version appears especially premium under studio lighting, while the black version offers a more classic, discreet look.

Positioning vs Luna Ultra
The Luna Pro retains the core professional features of the flagship Luna Ultra (1-inch sensor path, Leica optics, 3-axis gimbal, 10-bit recording, colour temperature sensor, and detachable remote screen) while dropping the second telephoto lens. This makes it lighter and, as expected, more affordable – aimed at everyday creators, travel vloggers, and social media shooters who want premium image quality and the remote screen convenience without needing optical zoom.
The Ultra remains the no-compromise dual-lens flagship (already available since June 2026). The Pro is clearly positioned as the more accessible everyday-carry option.
Release Status & Pricing
We are waiting for official teasers of the camera., But at the time am writing the article No official launch date has been announced yet for the Luna Pro.
However, the appearance of full, polished product shots in both colorways (with finished UI screenshots and detailed lens engravings) is a strong signal that the camera is production-ready and that marketing materials are already prepared.
Obviously, the product shot confirms the possibility that the official announcement could come somewhat earlier than the late Q3 early Q4 window we previously expected. It will potentially in the next 4–8 weeks. We will continue monitoring for retail listings, pricing leaks, or official teases.
Expected US pricing remains in the $600–720 range for the body.
These new product shots from Quadro_News give us the clearest confirmation yet that the Insta360 Luna Pro is production-ready. Both color options look excellent, the industrial design is refined, and the single Leica Super-Summicron module appears final. Staytuned, We’ll keep updating as more details surface.
