We have done a quick specification comparison between the new and old EF-S ultra wide angle lenses (Canon EF-S 10-18mm vs Canon EF-S 10-22mm) available for Canon APS-C Sensor based DSLR…

The new Canon Lens is very affordable compared to its predecessor , the new Lens also features Stepping motor, the stepping motor allows you to do AF silently (without AF noise) , the other major feature is built-in image stabilization that gives you shake prevention up to 4 stops, the new 10-18mm lens will be highly suitable for still shooters as well as Videographers. Canon also upgraded its optics and Diaphragm Blades from 6 to 7, the lens also losses some fat as well as price.

Canon two new ultra wide angle lenses is rumored to announce soon, the name of the two lenses are
- EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM and
- EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM
These two lenses are possibly replacement of 1. EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 and 2. EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM lenses or may be Canon adding two new ultra wide angle lenses to the line-up.
Both the upcoming lenses have built-in image stabilization system, however I don’t know why Canon new lenses have smaller aperture range compared to its predecessors, it may disappoint professional users.
The current price of EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 is $650 and EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM is approx $1700, the upcoming lenses will have bit higher price tag due to built-in Image stabilization.
Reminder: Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 art lens is the best wide-angle zoom lens available on planet earth with constant F1.8 aperture, highly recommended for Canon APS-C DSLR users, Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 art lens available at B&H and Amazon

According to the latest rumors surfaced over the web Canon is developing a affordable multilayer sensor (Foveon-like), the new sensor may be used Canon Fullframe mirrorless camera and prosumer DLSR models.
Multilayer foven sensor design
The multi-layer design will capture more light and reproduce more colors than traditional Sensor, the multi-layered sensor allows each of the sensor’s pixels to capture more brightness and color info without the need for colored filters.
If the news is true we may see a new fullframe product soon at Photokina 2014, But keep in mind that the rumor is coming from a new source.. so take it as a grain of salt.
