The International Design Excellence Awards is organized annually by the IDSA. Each year, thousands of entries are submitted by designers across the globe in hopes of securing a highly prized IDEA recognition. Launched in 1980, the awards seek to highlight the importance of design excellence to the quality of life and the economy among businesses and the public. Each year, the awards program recognizes the best product designs from a wide range of sectors, including industrial products, consumer electronics, and household goods, along with vehicles, sports items, and furnishings, in addition to aspects such as design strategy and branding.
The PowerShot V10 – a vlog camera that features a 1” CMOS sensor and a high-quality stereo microphone for achieving high image and audio quality in a compact body – continued to tally awards for its design. It received the 2023 Good Design Award in Japan in addition to the internationally prestigious iF Design Award and Red Dot Design Award
Canon’s PowerShot V10 Vlog camera honored with Silver Award at the International Design Excellence Awards
TOKYO, September 13, 2024—Canon Inc. announced today that the company’s PowerShot V10 Vlog camera has been recognized with the Silver Award at the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2024 hosted by the Industrial Designers Society of America.
Considered one of the most preeminent international design award competitions, the International Design Excellence Awards, launched in 1980, aim to foster understanding of the importance of design excellence to the quality of life and the economy among businesses and the public. Products are reviewed based on not only their functions and aesthetic quality, but also such factors as level of innovativeness as well as benefits to users and to society as a whole. Each year, the awards program recognizes the best product designs from a wide range of sectors, including industrial products, consumer electronics, and household goods, along with vehicles, sports items, and furnishings, in addition to aspects such as design strategy and branding.
The PowerShot V10 is a vlog camera that features a 1” CMOS sensor and large-diameter microphone for achieving high image and audio quality in a compact body which can easily be stored in a small bag. It employs a vertical design suitable for shooting video easily with just one hand and an easy-to-understand and simple UI (user interface) with limited display information, making it easy for even first-time camera users to enjoy full-fledged video shooting. In addition to handheld shooting, the camera is equipped with an internal stand that can be used to adjust the camera angle, thereby allowing users to set the device down and shoot from multiple angles without having to use a tripod, etc.
The PowerShot V10 has garnered high praise for its design, having received the Good Design Award 2023 in Japan as well as the iF Design Award and Red Dot Design Award, which are both as internationally prestigious as the International Design Excellence Award. The new firmware update for Nikon Z f/ Z7 II/ Z 8/ Z 9 cameras has been delayed! The new firmware update, originally scheduled to be released months ago, has been postponed due to major issues with Nikon’s latest Z7 II firmware update and issues with Nikon Cloud.
Supporting Nikon Cloud functionality on the Z7 II camera is much more complex than originally it thought and due to that several other updates were also delayed or put on hold, which is the reason behind the delay of the new firmware. Internal testing results at Nikon have shown compatibility issues that require more time to fix. This may be unfortunate for Nikon Z7 II users, but hopefully, the new firmware released by Nikon will be rock-solid and not have frequent issues like the latest firmware from other companies, causing unnecessary trouble for users.
The new firmware for the Nikon Z f/ Z8 and Z9 cameras will significantly improve image processing capabilities. Stay tuned!

An interesting patent application from Nikon was published on August 16, 2024. It appears to be for a compact wide-angle lens with a unique cross-sectional lens design. In the patent below, is of two lenses one is 24mm F2.8 and the other one is a 26mm F2.8 Lens designed for the Nikon Z Mount. The Nikon Z6III started at number one in the Yodobashi rankings but also took first place at Map Camera by a large margin, so it’s off to a perfect start. Nikon’s Zf and Z8 are also ranked 4th and 5th, so it seems like they’ve been gaining momentum lately.
Fujifilm’s X-T50 continues to sell well, coming in second position after the Z6 III. The strong sales of the X-T50 is likely due largely to the fact that it is being supplied in abundance, which is rare for a Fujifilm camera, once the demand goes high the STOCK goes out.
