Detailed Review

We have selected the list of the best zoom cameras available in 2025, and let’s explore them.

Nikon P1100 - Best Superzoom camera

1. The Nikon P1100 – Best Superzoom Camera 2025

The Nikon P1100 was announced in February 2025. It features the world’s longest optical zoom lens ever used in a bridge camera. You get a total of 125x optical zoom lens which gives you enormous ability to zoom distant subjects. You can clearly capture wildlife, birds, and even the moon with this camera.

  • Specifications:
    • Sensor: 16MP 1/2.3″ BSI-CMOS
    • Zoom: 24-3000mm (125x optical), f/2.8-8
    • Video: 4K/30p, 1080/60p with clean HDMI output
    • Stabilization: 5-axis VR (up to 5 stops)
    • Display: 3.2″ fully articulated LCD (921,000 dots), 2.36M-dot OLED viewfinder
    • Weight: 1410g
    • Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
  • Pros:
    • Unmatched 125x zoom range, ideal for extreme telephoto shots.
    • 250X Dynamic Zoom for Moon Shots
    • 5-axis image stabilization ensures steady shots at long focal lengths.
    • Fully articulated screen for flexible shooting angles.
    • AI-enhanced autofocus with bird-watching mode for precise subject tracking.
    • Raw support for post-processing flexibility.
  • Cons:
    • Bulky and heavy (1410g), reducing portability.
    • Small 1/2.3″ sensor limits low-light performance and image quality at high ISOs.
    • Higher price point compared to other bridge cameras.

Performance: The Nikon P1100 camera is able to do 125x optical zoom and approximately 250x dynamic zoom, which includes optical plus digital, meaning hybrid zooming. The camera uses Nikon’s latest AI-driven autofocus technology, which is very helpful in capturing and tracking moving birds. The camera is heavier and bulkier, so it resembles a DSLR camera. Although due to the small sensor size, some image noise may appear at higher ISO settings. If you want a larger sensor zoom camera, then we do have options like the Sony RX10 IV, but it comes at a hefty price.

Who is it for: The Nikon P1100 camera is ideal for those who love to have the world’s best mega zoom camera in their hand.

Best MegaZoom Camera

2. The Nikon P950 – Best Nikon Budget Zoom Camera

The Nikon P950 offers 83x optical zoom and it is slightly more affordable compared to the Nikon P1100, so if your budget is not that much, you can still get a decent zoom camera — the P950.

  • Specifications:
    • Sensor: 16MP 1/2.3″ BSI-CMOS
    • Zoom: 24-2000mm (83x optical), f/2.8-6.5
    • Video: 4K/30p
    • Stabilization: 5-axis VR
    • Display: 3.2″ articulated LCD
    • Weight: 1005g
    • Price: $800 / £660
  • Pros:
    • 83X Long zoom range suitable for wildlife and sports.
    • Lighter and more portable than the P1100.
    • 4K video and 5-axis stabilization for steady shots.
    • AI-enhanced scene recognition for easier shooting.
  • Cons:
    • Less zoom than the P1100.
    • Small sensor limits low-light performance.

Performance: The Nikon P950 strikes a balance between the superzoom camera and the budget. With the P950, you are getting approximately 83x optical zoom, and overall, you are getting 160x of dynamic zoom from the camera. Again, the autofocus is very well capable of shooting and tracking subjects, and overall is the second-best camera after the Nikon P1100 in the line of bridge cameras.

Who is it for: Photographers who love to have a budget bridge camera with extensive zoom range capabilities — Nikon P950 is the best choice.

Canon SX 70 HS Camera

3. Canon SX70 HS – Best Canon Superzoom Camera

Available under budget, the Canon SX70 HS is able to zoom up to 65x, which is, of course, less than the Nikons we have discussed earlier. But that’s the only mega zoom camera we have inside Canon.

  • Specifications:
    • Sensor: 20.3MP 1/2.3″ CMOS
    • Zoom: 21-1365mm (65x optical), f/3.4-6.5
    • Video: 4K/30p
    • Stabilization: 4-stop IS
    • Display: Vari-angle LCD
    • Weight: 610g
    • Price: $650 / £570
  • Pros:
    • Wide-angle lens (21mm) for landscapes and group shots.
    • Lightweight and portable at 610g.
    • 4K video and vari-angle screen for flexible shooting.
    • AI-powered autofocus for reliable subject tracking.
  • Cons:
    • Shorter zoom range than Nikon models.
    • No 5-axis stabilization, less effective at long focal lengths.
    • Build quality feels less premium.

Performance: Canon SX70 HS is a work-horse camera made for regular usage. Although not weather-sealed, but build quality is very good. It uses a 20.3 MP sensor, which delivers quite a good result in available light conditions. If you love to buy a Canon zoom camera, then without a doubt SX70 HS is the best choice. But if you talk about the overall best zoom camera, then we do have better options than the SX70 HS — the Nikon P950 and the Nikon P1100.

Who is it for: The Canon SX70 HS is made for travel photographers and lightweight zoom camera lovers.

Panasonic FZ80 image

Panasonic FZ80 – Best Beginner Zoom Camera

Although my favourite was Panasonic FZ1000 Mark II, it is hardly available anywhere. The next best camera after the FZ1000 Mark II is the FZ80. It is one of the best budget 60x optical zoom cameras available right now.

  • Specifications:
    • Sensor: 18MP 1/2.3″ CMOS
    • Zoom: 20-1200mm (60x optical), f/2.8-5.9
    • Video: 4K/30p, 30fps burst in 4K Photo Mode
    • Stabilization: Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS)
    • Weight: 691g
    • Price: $440 / £350 (used)
  • Pros:
    • Affordable price point for a zoom camera.
    • 4K video and 4K Photo Mode for capturing fast action.
    • Wide-angle lens (20mm) for versatile shooting.
    • AI-enhanced scene detection for ease of use.
  • Cons:
    • Shorter zoom range compared to competitors.
    • Basic build quality.
    • Limited low-light performance.

Performance: The Panasonic FZ80 offers excellent value. The camera uses a high-quality 18 Megapixel CMOS sensor, captures 4K video at 30 frames per second, and the zoom is sufficient for casual usage. But if you want more, then of course we do have options like the Nikon P950 and the P1100.

Who It’s For: Budget-conscious photographers

Best Sony Zoom Camera

Sony RX10 IV

Sony RX10 IV – Best Professional Zoom Camera

That’s the best zoom camera a camera maker has ever made. Despite its limited 25x optical zoom range, the camera features a 20 Megapixel high-quality 1-inch hybrid CMOS autofocus sensor with a focusing speed of 0.03 seconds, which is non-noticeable. At the very same time, the camera was loaded with AI algorithms so it could easily detect and shoot subjects. But due to the very slow response from the market, Sony decided to withdraw the RX10 series cameras. Since mostly these are out of production right now. But if you can get a copy of this camera, you will be blessed to have the RX10 IV.

  • Specifications:
    • Sensor: 20.1MP 1″ Exmor RS CMOS
    • Zoom: 24-600mm (25x optical), f/2.4-4
    • Video: 4K/120p, 24fps continuous shooting
    • Stabilization: SteadyShot
    • Weight: 1095g
    • Price: $1600
  • Pros:
    • Larger 1″ sensor for better image quality and low-light performance.
    • Fast autofocus (0.03 seconds) with AI-driven tracking.
    • High-quality Zeiss lens and 4K/120p video for professional results.
    • Robust build quality.
  • Cons:
    • Shorter zoom range than other bridge cameras.
    • Expensive compared to competitors.

Performance: The camera features exceptional image quality with the highest possible details and a very high-quality 25x optical zoom lens made by the company. It was able to capture 4K videos up to 120 frames per second and continuous shooting up to 24 frames per second with sensor-shift SteadyShot IS. If your priority is image quality and you love to have the best & fastest focusing superzoom camera, get the RX10 Mark IV.

Nikon P1100 Press Release | List of 20 Major Features | Price | Arrival Date

The Nikon P1100 announced today, but it’s really hard to find hardware differences in this new camera compared to the predecessor, Now, the ONLY noticeable difference we have is the addition of a USB-C port for faster charging and data transfer. However, its core specifications remain nearly identical to the P1000, including the same 16MP 1/2.3″ CMOS sensor, 125x optical zoom (24–3000mm equivalent), and 4K UHD video recording at 25/29.97 fps, so it’s disappointing to see such a subtle update in the new camera from Nikon even after a long gap. If you already own the Nikon P100 camera, upgrade from the existing camera offers minimal benefits unless USB-C charging, which I think but budget-conscious photographers will not upgrade their camera based on the minor improvements against the P1000’s.

Nikon  P1100 Official Press Release

REACH FOR THE STARS: NIKON RELEASES THE COOLPIX P1100 COMPACT DIGITAL CAMERA WITH AN EXTRAORDINARY 125X OPTICAL ZOOM

The Compact Camera That Sets the Gold Standard for Super Zooms

MELVILLE, NY (February 4, 2025) – Today, Nikon Inc. announced the COOLPIX P1100, a compact digital camera that features an incredible 125x optical super-telephoto zoom, with creative features that help users create amazing photos and videos from the most extreme distances.

The COOLPIX P1100 is a compact digital camera and offers further improvements in usability and connectivity. The COOLPIX P1100 covers a vast range of focal lengths beginning at the wide-angle 24mm equivalent, extending to the super-telephoto 3000mm 1 equivalent. If that is not enough, the P1100 is capable of going even farther, with up to a 250x 2 zoom when Dynamic Fine Zoom is enabled.

The COOLPIX P1100 makes it easy to enjoy the world of super-telephoto shooting with the ability to capture dynamic images of subjects that are difficult approach, including birds and celestial bodies. The camera features Dual Detect Optical VR, which achieves a level of vibration reduction equivalent to 4.0 stops 3 at the center of the frame, effectively suppressing camera shake when handheld shooting. The P1100 is also able to capture 4K UHD/30p and superlapse movie recordings, helping the user make creative videos of nature and
the night sky.

Further enhancements include a selectable AF-area mode in Bird-Watching Mode, and the same functions that can be assigned to the camera’s Fn button can now be assigned to the Fn1/Fn2 buttons on the optional ML-L7 Remote Control 4 . What’s more, a Fireworks option has been added to [Multiple exp. Lighten] scene mode. This function reduces instances of blown-out highlights that often occur when shooting long exposures, making it easier to capture impressively clear scenes of fireworks displays in which the brightness of the foreground or
the background differs.

Primary Features of the COOLPIX P1100

  • Incredible 125x optical zoom for super-telephoto performance up to a 24-3000mm equivalent.
  • Super ED and ED lens elements provide superior chromatic aberration compensation and deliver outstanding rendering capabilities across the entire zoom range, even with super-telephoto shooting.
  • Dual Detect Optical VR accurately suppresses the effects of camera shake with super-telephoto handheld shooting. This enables the capture of sharp and clear images of birds, celestial bodies, and other distant subjects at dynamic angles of view.
  • Bird-Watching and Moon modes can be accessed directly using the mode dial.
Support for 4K UHD/30p movie recording lets users beautifully record subjects with the power of super-telephoto 3000mm equivalent. Frames from movies recorded in 4K UHD format can also be saved as still images.
  • Massive zoom, small size: Despite coverage of focal lengths up to 3000mm equivalent, the camera weighs only approx. 3.1 lbs. (1,410g), allowing users to enjoy super-telephoto shooting more comfortably than with DSLR and mirrorless camera systems.

Additional Features of the COOLPIX P1100:

  • The camera is equipped with a focus mode selector that can be used to change the focus mode even after it has been acquired, along with a control ring that enables the adjustment of settings such as white balance and manual focus.
  • Optional accessory ML-L7 Remote Control connects to the COOLPIX P1100 via Bluetooth®︎, and the same functions that can be assigned to the camera’s Fn button can be assigned to the remote.
  • A 3.2in. TFT LCD Vari-angle monitor with a wide-viewing angle makes it easy to compose handheld or on a tripod.
Compatible with Nikon’s exclusive RAW (.NRW) format.
  • COOLPIX Picture Control 5 , which can be used to make adjustments in accordance with the subject, shooting situations and intentions.
  • Capability to record superlapse and time-lapse movies.
  • Support for Clean HDMI output 6 , which cleans the information display from the
  • image output to an external monitor during recording.
  • The ability to set long-exposure noise reduction to [Auto] or [Off].
  • Adoption of a USB Type-C input/output connector.
  • Compatible with the optional DF-M1 Dot Sight that facilitates image composition during telephoto shooting.

Price and Availability

The new Nikon COOLPIX P1100 will be available in late February 2025 for a suggested retail price of $1,099.95*. For more information about the latest Nikon products, including the large collection of NIKKOR Z lenses and the entire line of Z series cameras, please visit nikonusa.com.

Nikon P1100 or P2000: Breaking Down Rumored P1000 Successor

Recent reports suggest the demand for the Nikon P1000 camera has gained huge momentum. The camera is now selling for more than its recommended MSRP retail price range (approximately 2X price), and this is very clearly visible in online stores all around the world.

The demand for compact cameras has returned to the market, and most influencers right now are willing to buy a high-quality compact camera. However, the supply of compact cameras is very low, and at the same time, there is only one super high-zoom camera available: the Nikon P1000.

As we have already said, the recent report shows that the price of the P1000 is skyrocketing globally. Now let’s dive into the details and explore the possibilities, starting with the name of the camera.

Nikon P1100 or P2000: What’s Next from Nikon?

First of all, the scarcity of the Nikon P1000 camera and the high price tag clearly indicate a very high demand for a new model. Another big hint is that most of the P1000 stock has been sold out. It looks like the company is clearing up the previous stock in order to announce the new camera.

What will be the name of the upcoming Nikon mega-zoom camera? Based on leaks and speculations, the name is not very clear. If they move in chronological order, the name of the upcoming camera will likely be Nikon P1000, which would be the successor to the P1000. Earlier, the P1000 was the successor to the P900 camera, so this is how they are moving in chronological order in their mega-zoom series. However, if they take a bold leap with a major upgrade in the core specifications of the camera, or if some groundbreaking features like AI autofocus, a larger image sensor, and better optics are introduced, it may lead to a major leap in the name too, like Nikon P2000. Chinese sources are specifically speculating that the camera name will be the Nikon P2000 and not the P1100.

Rumored Specifications of the P1000 Successor:

  • 150x high-quality optical zoom lens, with digital zoom up to 200x. – As per the initial rumors, the camera is set to have a 3500mm zoom lens. Earlier, the P1000 model had a 3000mm zoom lens, which was equivalent to 125x optical zoom.
  • The new lens will have an aperture of f/2.8 ultra-wide aperture, which will improve the overall low-light performance of the camera and will also help ensure more artistic depth of field in the shots.
  • The NEW 1/1.8-inch CMOS sensor (larger than the P1000’s 1/2.3-inch sensor) aims to boost dynamic range, reduce noise, and enhance image quality
  • New AI Auotofous: Similar to what we have seen in Nikon Z50 II, Z6 III, Z8, and Z9.
  • 4k 60FPS Video and continuous,  refined autofocus and color grading tools for enhanced video production

Nikon P2000 camera can easily dominate the bridge camera market with its unmatched zoom and new AI modes. The best thing is that literally no competitor is present in the bridge camera market to compete against the Nikon P2000 camera.

The camera is targeted towards bird lovers, travel photographers, and even professionals who want to have a secondary body and an alternative to heavy and bulky DSLR setups. At the same time, a huge market demand has emerged from content creators who love to have tax-saver products and higher-zoom cameras that produce better image quality than their smartphones.

Nikon should announce the P1000 camera as soon as possible. The fan base is eagerly waiting for Nikon’s next move. Stay tuned—we will update you as soon as we get any new information related to the company’s upcoming cameras and lenses.
