Fuji X-T5 Rumors Update

According to the latest rumors surfaced over the web, the Fuji X-H2 camera coming in Q4 of 2022. With a brand new 40MP BSI CMOS sensor, the recently announced X-H2s use a 40Mp stacked CMOS sensor. It’s really very good news. But what will happen to X-T5?, let’s discuss

But, if Fuji X-H2 Comes in Q4 of 2022, then we have two possibilities left for X-T5

1. Fuji will announce an X-T5 camera in 2022, with a subtle upgrade. (I don’t think so)

2. or they will delay the announcement to 2023

Fuji will protect the sales of Fuji X-H2s and X-H2 cameras, In general camera, makers keep a few months of the gap in between two cameras announcement with similar price ranges/tags to avoid the inner sales cannibalization

If Fuji Wants to announce both Fuji X-T5 and X-H2 cameras at the end of 2022, they have to keep significant amount of difference in core spec of at least the X-H2 and X-T5 camera. So, that they that can preserve the pride & Sales of the XT series flasghip camera and also allow an affordable option for beginner cinematographers with X-H2.

Fuji will never take the risk of announcing two different models (Fuji X-H2 and X-T5) with almost 90% same core specs in the same time frame. They will eat up each other’s sales. That’s what we call it self product cannibalization / a marketing blunder.

As per rumors, the X-H2 camera is coming with 40Mp BSI CMOS sensor. Now, the only option left for Fuji is to delay the X-T5 announcement for few months (a smart move that we are expecting).

Fuji X-T5 Coming in 2023?

Yes, we may see Fuji X-T5 in Feb of 2023 (or in the later part of 2023). Fuji has two options, either cripple the core specs of one camera out of two or delay the announcement of the X-T5. And I do believe Fuji will select the 2nd option.

It all started with the Fuji X-T1 16mp X-Trans sensor – and now we are expecting Fuji X-T 5 camera arrives with a 40MP Sensor. But, when?

Camera model name Year of arrival
Fuji X-T1 2015 (Aug)
Fuji X-T2 2016 (July)
2017
Fuji X-T3 2018 (Sep)
2019
Fuji X-T4 2020 (Feb)
2021
2022

Fuji X-H2S is using Stacked CMOS Sensor

According to the latest rumors that surfaced over the web, the upcoming Fuji X-H2s Camera will be using a 26MP Stacked CMOS Sensor. So, finally, we have an upgrade from fuji’s old BSI CMOS sensor to the stacked CMOS sensor.

The upcoming sensor is the Fuji Fith Generation X-Trans CMOS sensor,  Stacked sensors are capable of processing light with blazing fast speed. Fuji X-H2s is a video-centered camera, so we will only notice video-centered improvement this time.

  • Fuji X-H2S – 26 MP Stacked CMOS for higher Sensitivity / better low light performance
  • Fuji X-H2 – 40 MP High-Resolution Sony Made Sensor (Sony’s IMX671AQR or maybe a variant of the same)

The Sony 43 MP IMX671AQR is a sensor with DRAM Chip / Stacked CMOS Sensor. So, if the same sensor is being used by fuji both X-H2 series cameras will arrive this year with a Stacked CMOS Sensor.

Fuji X-H2 camera will have 8k video recording capability and the X-H2S will remain limited to 4K video recording capability with enhanced low-light performance.

But, to see the still photography capability of the new 5th generation of X-Trans CMOS Sensor we have to wait for the announcement of X-T5.

Fuji X-T40 Camera Not So Soon [Rumor]

According to the latest rumors, the Fuji X-T40 announcement will also get delayed just like the X-H2 camera (as we have told you earlier post) due to the absence of advanced technology (new sensor and image processor).

Fuji doesn’t want to let down the Fuji X-S10 Sales number

According to the latest rumors we are getting if Fuji X-T40 arrives with the IBIS unit it will eat up the Fuji X-S10 sales which are available at a bit higher price point compared to X-30 / X-T40 series cameras.

This is just a reference table to let you know based on the current set of information we have on May 2021. That announcement pattern of Fuji’s upcoming camera will look like this. (camera names in chronological order)

Fuji Registers a New Camera FF 210001 - Fuji X-H2 or Something Else?

Fuji recently registers a new camera FF 210001. As per rumors we have received in the past Fuji may push the X-H2 camera before X-T5.  Although, we have to wait for further confirmations from trusted sources.

Initial details

Model code name – FF210001
WiFi – 802.11b/g/n @ 2.4 GHz

For those who think Fuji X-H2 is discontinued or dead – Fuji X-H series isn’t dead yet, Fujifilm UK Manager Andreas Georghiades denied the reports that Fuji X-H series is dead more details here

Other possibilities…

PS: If Fuji announces Fuji X-T40 with 26MP BSI CMOS sensor and IBIS it will eat up the Fuji X-S10 sales. But, it will surely get more market coverage/share and will grab the limelight before the Sony A6400 official upgrade arrives (with IBIS).

Fuji X-T5? We do know Fuji will be getting Sony 32MP OR 43MP sensors for their future cameras from Sony soon. Both of them are commercially un-available at the Sony sensor website. Take a look at the list of Sony sensors to be used in upcoming wolrdwide cameras

So, we have to wait and we will soon post an update as soon as it becomes available to us.

One of the  most noticeable improvements we have in the new Fuji XT-4 camera compared to Fuji X-T3 is the introduction of a 5-axis image stabilization system. The Fuji X-T4 is able to compensate upto 6.5 stops of shutter speed. Not only that Fuji is also able to give us DIS (digital image stabilization), specifically for video. But while using DIS mode we have to face at least 1.1X crop factor while using that.

Fuji says that they are able to improve the IBIS accuracy by 8 times when compared to Fuji X-H1 camera.

Improved Shutter Mechanism

Fuji introduced a new shutter mechanism inside the Fuji X-T4 camera. With the help of new shutter mechanism the Fuji X-T4 camera is able to shoot 15 FPS continuous shooting mode (with AF/AE tracking). As we know the Mechanical shutter of Fuji X-T.3 camera is limited to 11 FPS per second.

If you need faster burst speeds, note that both cameras can go up to 20fps with the electronic shutter, or 30fps with the electronic shutter and crop mode (1.25x). The cropping issue isn’t a Fuji problem, Sony IMX 571 sensor crops images upto 1.25x while you move on @ 20 or 30 fps per second.

Video modes compared

As usual Fuji X-T4 and the Fuji X-T3 camera are able to shoot  4K up to 60p and 200Mbps. But while shooting 4K video at 60 fps we have to face crop 1.18x crop. If you are using both cameras  at 4K up to 30 and 400Mbps we have to face no cropping issue. You can have 10-bit 4:2:0 for internal recording and 10-bit 4:2:2 via HDMI [external recorder].

10X SloMo Mode: With the new Fuji X-T4 camera we are able to shoot 10X slo Mo videos with an impressive shooting speed of 240 FPS. The X-T3 can do a maximum of 120fps, which is half that (5x slow motion effect). Note that the High Speed mode works with a 1.29x crop.

But recent update suggest – Upcoming Firmware update will uplift the Full HD frame rates to 240FPS, same as we have in the Fuji X-T4.

There is a new battery grip designed for the new camera, the VG-XT4, to accommodate two NP-W235 batteries.

————————————-

Major improvements

We can write our video files simultaneously on both the cards. BTW, SD card failure isn’t a big issue nowadays. F-Log View Assist which allows you to display normal contrast and colours when recording with Log (F-Log is available on the X-T3 as well).

Both Fuji X-T3 and Fuji X-T4, have a 3.5mm audio input that can be used for microphones. On the X-T4 it doubles as a line input for other types of audio equipment.

USB-C adapter instead (included in the box).  Is being used to monitor the audio level of the camera while recording. The feature was introduced with Fuji X-T30.

Verdict: If you already won Fuji X-T3 camera, then no need to invest your money again on Fuji X-T4, you should wait for Fuji X-T5. If you are planning to buy a new Fuji X-T series camera than for sure go with the new Fuji X-T4 camera.
