Tsuyoshi Tokura, Senior Managing Executive Officer in charge of the Canon Imaging Group
On February 22nd, the first day of CP+2024, Tsuyoshi Tokura, the senior managing executive officer and deputy manager of Canon’s Imaging Group, who is in charge of Canon’s camera business, responded to a press interview.
Interviewer asked: Speculation is flying around on social media that “Canon seems to have a policy of not opening up the RF mount to other companies,” but someone in charge of Canon’s camera business said, “Canon is communicating with third-party manufacturers. The depth of communication is probably more than half the way (to commercialization).” It is not a dream that AF-compatible RF mount lenses will be released by popular third parties such as Sigma and Tamron.
When the interviewer asked these questions to Mr. Tokura, he immediately replied, “Canon is communicating with third-party manufacturers regarding RF mount lenses” and “There are no restrictions.” He quickly denied the speculations among photography fans. He also said, “Communication with third-party manufacturers is deeper than it was in the early days,” and revealed that they are proceeding with more active interactions than before.
That is really good news, Now Canon giving us an open indication that yes Third party lenses are on their way, and most probably at the year’s end we will have a new generation of third-party lenses for Canon mount.
Update: 29 Feb 2023
Canon Signed an NDA with Tamron and Sigma
In the latest interview we have from Canon | published at Phototrend they have said
Now that the RF mount is open, how do we verify third-party lenses? Is it enough to just comply with the technical specifications?”
To clarify, we have embraced an open mount strategy. Currently, there are no third-party lenses with autofocus (AF) available. However, we recognize the importance of product diversity to meet our customers’ needs. As a result, we are actively engaging with several third-party manufacturers. While I cannot disclose specific details at this time, I can confirm that we have signed non-disclosure agreements with these manufacturers. Consequently, I am unable to discuss the types of lenses that will be released or their market positioning. Thank you for your understanding.

Just a year ago, I was imagining if there was any possibility of adding an autofocus motor to the Zero-D series lenses of Laowa. Since, Zero-D lenses are exclusively made by the Laowa brand only, and no other camera brand or lens maker produces Zero-D lenses like Laowa does. So, you can imagine using a 10mm lens on a Sony Camera with Full-time AF support and nearly zero lens distortion. It’s like a science fiction thing, but it is now possible, and you can have that
An ultra-wide lens from Laowa has arrived for the Sony E-mount and Nikon Z-mount that has built-in AF motor inside it.The Canon RF Mount version of the lens doesn’t have AF motor.

Let’s compare the Sony a6700 camera versus the Sony A73. People are quite confused about which camera they should buy since both of them are approximately in the same price range.
Can a 4-Year-Old Camera Beat Sony A6700?
The biggest factor behind the confusion is that the Sony A73 is a full-frame camera and every photographer wishes to have a full-frame camera in their hand. But it’s a four-year-old camera, so the big question is, can it still beat or outperform the Sony a6700 camera which is a recent announcement?
Let’s Find out the best camera for photographers
So, let’s do a simple comparison that will help you understand which camera you should buy based on your personal requirements and budget boundaries.
Vari-angle Display Screen Vs Tilting Display Screen
Design-wise, both cameras are good. The advantage we have with the Sony a6700 camera is the vari-angle display screen which is more helpful for a content creator rather than a photographer. With the Sony A73 camera, we do get a tilting display screen.
Sony A6700 Lightweight More Convenient for Vlog and Travel
The other biggest advantage of the a6700 camera is its slightly lightweight and compact body. So if you are a travel photographer or a content creator, it is recommended to have a smaller and more compact body for the long run.
Sony A7 III – Dual Card Slot and Professional Body
But if you talk about the advantages of the Sony A73 camera, we are able to have dual card slots in this, while the Sony a6700 camera is limited to a single card slot. At the same time, the overall look and feel of the Sony A73 camera looks a bit more professional.
Internal Core Difference – Best Camera for Photographers
Let’s talk about the internal core differences of both the cameras. If you are a photographer, which camera should you prefer? And if you are a content creator or filmmaker, which camera should you use? We will discuss below.
Full-frame vs APS-C – Best Camera for LOW-LIGHT
If you are a photographer, then without a doubt, having a full-frame sensor is the biggest advantage inside a camera. But at the same time, the sensor is approximately 4 years old. Will it outperform the Sony a6700 camera’s latest sensor in high ISO test or in base ISO test or not? Let’s find out.
At the highest ISO, you can see that at ISO 51200, the Sony A73 camera can preserve more details compared to the Sony a6700 camera. If you stop down ISO to 25600, the difference remains the same.
It indicates that the sensor of the Sony A73 camera, despite being a four-year-old sensor, is still outperforming the Sony a6700 camera’s latest 26-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor.
CONCLUSION
So, if you’re a photographer and working in uncontrolled light environments, then it is highly recommended to buy the Sony A73 camera without a doubt.
The rest of the core specifications include the continuous shooting speed of the camera. With the Sony a6700 camera, you can shoot up to 11 frames per second, and the JPEG storage is approximately 1000 frames due to a larger buffer. At the same time, the Sony A73 camera’s slightly limited buffer space allows you to shoot up to 10 frames per second.
So, we have a very slight difference in the continuous shooting speed of the cameras.
Auto Focus System of A7 III Highly usable | Sony A6700 is More advanced
The artificial intelligence tracking system of the Sony a6700 camera is highly advanced. Now, you are able to track moving insects as well as high-speed moving vehicles. Although, if you talk about the face and eye autofocus detection and tracking mechanism, then the Sony A73 camera is also able to detect faces and eyes very efficiently.

If you’re a photographer, it is very clear that the A73 camera is performing extremely well under low light conditions. So, unless you’re working in controlled light environments like in your studio or if you shoot your models with controlled light, then only I would recommend you to have the a6700 camera for photography purposes. But if you shoot most of your pictures in uncontrolled light environments, then it is highly recommended for you to have a Sony A73 camera instead of the a6700 camera. Despite several features the a6700 camera has inside its body, it doesn’t matter if its low light performance is worse and the end result that you will have in your memory card is inferior compared to a 4-year-old camera. So, it doesn’t make any sense to recommend the a6700 camera.

Sony A6700 vs Fuji X-S20
By admin, on February 13th, 2024
Concept Design of Fuji X-S200 Camera | First appeared on thenewcacamera.com
It looks like Fuji has completely quit the entry-level zone of cameras. They have neither updated nor released a lightweight XA series, and they have also discontinued the XT 100, and 200 series of cameras.
The biggest problem arises when a new subscriber or a website visitor asks for a recommendation in the 700-800 price range and is interested in a Fuji camera.
We have a new race of content creators, and these creators prefer cameras made specifically for them, like the Sony ZV-E10 and Canon R50; some are also buying the Nikon Z30. But among all these options, Fuji is missing in this price range.
We know that with the X-S20 camera, Fuji has given us a dedicated content creator mode in the PSAM and mode dial button, but the Fuji X-S20 is not within the reach of entry-level content creators. We all know that cameras like the Sony ZV-E10 contributed 50% [approx] of their entire Alpha series camera sales last year, so there is a huge market out there if someone is serious about the market itself.
Fuji has all the eligibility; they have opened their mount, and they have the best-in-class research and development team to create a camera that can beat the ZV-E10 on their very own ground. But they are still sleeping.
If you talk about entry-level content creators, then take a look at the options we have. We have the Sony ZV-E10 camera, of course, it is now waiting for an update, but again that’s the only camera that has the maximum features and an open E-mount in that range.
After that, we have the Canon R50, in which the log profiles are locked and the lens mount is also locked, so users have very few lens options to select from.
In the Nikon Z30, we still have a 30-minute recording limit in 4K mode even in 2024, and they cannot crack it.
They should be able to create a content-creator camera that at least has the basic essence of a Fuji X-S20 camera without EVF and fewer Physical controls, which will surely make a big space among the entry-level content-creator market.

Now, let’s talk about the latest rumor surfaced over the web, Canon is about to announce the newest version of their 28 to 70 F2 lens. This lens was announced back on 20 Jan, 2022 and it is said to be one of the most premium and costly lenses in Canon’s lineup. It’s nice, brother, you must know that Canon is about to update the lens with a more compact optical setup, hence reducing its size and weight.
Well, that is really interesting news for 2 to 3 % of users, the rest of the people like me waiting to for Tamron join Canon and announce their Tamron RF 28-75mm F2.8 Lens as well as RF 35-150mm F2-F2.8 Lens.

Some updates related to the upcoming Sony cameras: The first update concerns the Sony A7S Mark 4 camera. Initially, it was expected to arrive in Q4 of 2024, but now there are indications that the camera may be slightly delayed and arrive in either Q1 or Q2 of 2025.
Additionally, there’s news that Sony will soon expand its Z series cameras (Yes we know the ZV-E10 Mark II coming, but the news is about the expansion of the entire series not about the successor of any model). This expansion will include both APS-C and full-frame models. We can expect some glimpses of these announcements in 2024.
However, it’s important to note that this information comes from unofficial sources, so taking it with a grain of salt is advisable.
