Sigma - Compatibility Issue with Canon 5D Mark IV

There is no major issue, as we all know Canon all DSLR camera comes with built-in lens correction tool that corrects Peripheral illumination, Chromatic aberration and Diffraction once the shot is captured. Every Canon EOS camera have lens database inside and apply lens correction algorithm only when native Canon lenses mounted on it. Lens correction tool doesn’t work with third party lenses and the second thing don’t try to adjust focus ring while lens is on AF mode, Manual Override not available with Sigma lenses.

MO (Manual Override) function is unavailable with this camera (Full-time Manual function can be offered).

Both camera are made with different approach, the Canon 5DS is high resolution Canon DSLR made for shooting in controlled light environment and perform its best when used at base ISO range (below 3200) where as Canon 5D Mark IV is the flagship DSLR of 5D series and made which can shoot perfect stills with Hybrid AF support and records 4K video.

Practically both the camera using Canon made fullframe sensor but the technology used inside them are completely different, the Canon 5D Mark IV uses Dual-pixel CMOS AF sensor that can do fast AF while recording video or shooting with live-view model. Not only that, other brand users should also understand that the camera doesn’t have any dead pixels inside the sensor to do AF. The Dual-pixel AF technology uses to sub-photo diodes to acquire AF and hence your sensor doesn’t have any single dead pixels.

ISO Range

If you look at the ISO range of the current Canon 5D Mark IV, its much improved compared to the Canon 5DS camera. The standard ISO range of the Canon 5D Mark IV as well as the expandable ISO range both are better.

The Canon 5D Mark IV features 30 MP FF sensor whereas the Canon 5DS features 50MP FF Sensor, more megapixel on the same sensor plane means smaller photodiodes. When the sensor Photodiode becomes small it become less sensitice to light. Canon 5DS camera is not made to perform in low-light environment. It does need a well controlled environment to deliver optimal result.

Canon developed entirely new sensor for its 5D Mark 4 camera. Without compromising with the sensitivity of a camera canon added 30MP full frame CMOS sensor with dual pixel CMOS auto focusing system to enable fast AF during video and still shooting. AF points at f/8: Canon 5D Mark IV 61 AF points as well as 41 cross type are compatible down to F8 aperture and also works down to EV-3. Whereas, the Canon 5D Mark III only 1 AF point was active when you have selected F8 aperture.

Canon 5D Mark 4 camera features contrast detect CMOS sensor so there is no chance that it can compete with the recently announced Canon 5D Mark 4 camera with dual pixel CMOS AF Technology.

I always look test videos carefully before I publish them to my blog. So, while looking at the 5DMK4 latest test video I always noticed the Canon 5D Mark IV sample is more sharp (at 100%) compared to Sony A7R II and Panasonic GH4. Why?
It may be due to several reason, type of lens used or may AF was not set on tony face, whatever. But again, if I look at the test video 5DMkIV sample look more sharp and usable.
