Sigma is working on a telephoto lens that has never existed before, , so that is statement is very deep, Sigma already has a bunch of telephoto zoom lenses and Primes that also include the recently announced 60 to 600 mm lens, 150 to 600mm lenses for Mirrorless cameras, and we also have telephoto prime like the 500mm F5.6 (Sony E and Leica L), so we have a huge range of telephoto lenses from Sigma already. So that would be a very interesting thing to look forward to what’s coming next from Sigma.
A part of interview
Question by the interviewer (Tell us a bit about the new products you have coming up.)
We are currently working on many projects, all of which we are very excited about. One product that I am particularly excited about is a telephoto lens that has never existed before. I think this lens will be very attractive to sports and wildlife photographers. I can’t tell you the exact time of its release, but we are currently working very hard on the product.
It seems that Sigma is developing a telephoto lens with unprecedented specifications. What exactly is “unprecedented” about it? Lets wait and watch…

So, we have a Sigma lens coming right around the corner, with a focal length of 28-105mm and an aperture of f/2.8 for E (Sony Mirrorless) and L Mount (Panasonic and Leica). This is a very unique focal length, and it is set to compete directly against Canon’s super costly 24-105mm f/2.8 lens. It will be exciting to see the performance comparison between the two, even though we all know about the price difference. We are expecting the announcement or arrival of the 28-105mm f/2.8 lens sometime in September.

Introducing the SIGMA 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN | Art, the First Full-Frame F1.8 Zoom Lens for Mirrorless Camera Systems
Ronkonkoma, NY – June 3, 2024 – SIGMA Corporation of America, the US subsidiary of SIGMA Corporation (CEO: Kazuto Yamaki. Headquarters: Asao-ku, Kawasaki-shi, Kanagawa, Japan) is pleased to announce the SIGMA 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN | Art lens. This is the world’s first zoom lens with a constant F1.8 aperture for full-frame mirrorless camera systems. Available for Sony E-mount and L-Mount, this new wide-to-standard zoom spans several popular focal lengths from 28mm to 45mm, with image quality comparable to prime lenses.
The SIGMA 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN | Art was developed as a full-frame successor to the SIGMA 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art (for APS-C DSLR cameras), which in 2013 became the first lens in the world to achieve F1.8 throughout the entire zoom range.
While offering the convenience of a zoom, this new lens does not compromise on optical performance. By effectively arranging 3 aspherical lens elements and 5 SLD glass elements, this lens suppresses various aberrations and achieves performance comparable to single focal length lenses, even surpassing the SIGMA 24mm F1.4 DG DN | Art and SIGMA 50mm F1.4 DG DN | Art, which have an established reputation for their optical quality.
In particular, the 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN | Art focuses on suppressing axial chromatic aberration, which is often noticeable in large-aperture lenses, to achieve images with minimal coloration on both the focus plane and bokeh, and to demonstrate high optical performance from open aperture. The minimum focusing distance is 30cm (11.8 inches) throughout the entire range, and the maximum magnification ratio of 1:4 is achieved at the 45mm focal length.
Featuring internal zoom and HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) autofocus, and an optical design that minimizes focus breathing, the SIGMA 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN | Art is well-suited for video work, including gimbal setups, thanks to its balanced design. The click/de-click switch and lockable aperture ring are designed to suit a variety of personal capture preferences, and the dust- and splash-resistant design also makes it suitable for shooting stills and video out in the elements.
The SIGMA 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN | Art lens will be available for $1,349 through authorized retailers in the US in late June 2024.

The CEO of Sigma Corporation recently stated in an interview regarding the Foveon X3 sensor: “Unfortunately, there has been no significant progress in the development of the Foveon X3 sensor since 2023”. Although a prototype of the Foveon X3 sensor has been developed, some design errors were discovered, leading to the need for modifications. The modified design has been submitted to the manufacturing factory, and we are currently awaiting the next-generation prototype.
We are still in the design phase of the new image sensor, which may require the development of new manufacturing processes and further research. Therefore, it may take more time to develop the new sensor.

According to the latest rumors from the rumor mill, Sigma will announce two new RF-mount lenses. Source of the rumor mill says Sigma’s RF-mount lenses may become available in the next 6 to 8 months. The source also claims there will be a mid-range large-aperture prime lens and a zoom lens. And So, the rumor mill speculates we may see a 50mm f/1.4 and a zoom lens and a 17-50mm F2.8 OS D (RF Version).
So this is not the first time. A few months ago, the rumor mill published that Meike was the first to make Canon RF mount autofocus lenses. This news first broke out in April 2023. But since April, we are still waiting and Meike has made no lens announcement. And even if Sigma announces RF-S Lens, then undoubtedly they will have, 18-50mm F2.8 and not 17-50 for sure.
