Canon EOS Rs Specification

Well, the latest Canon EOS Rs camera specification surfaced today and literally I am not able to believe what I saw today. So, without losing any time let’s jump on the specification.

Canon EOS RS Rumored Specification

  • 45mp (One source said 40mp)
  • IBIS
    • 5 stops with IBIS alone
    • 7-8 stops of correction when used with in-lens stabilization
  • 14fps / 20fps (One source said 12fps / 20fps)
  • Scroll wheel added to the back
  • No touchbar
  • Liveview/Movie toggle like previous EOS DSLRs
  • Larger capacity battery, but looks like the LP-E6
  • 8K @ 30fps RAW
  • 4K @ 120fps
  • 4K @ 60fps
  • The info I was given about a crop was confusing
  • Announcement ahead of CP+ next month

After looking at the core specs, I am not able to believe that we will have a Canon camera next month that will do 8K at 30FPS and 4K at 60FPS. That’s really strange.

Canon 8K Mirrorless is in Canon RoadMap… but

Yoshiyuki Mizoguchi, Group Executive, ICB Products Group, Image Communication Business Operations at Canon Inc. Mizoguchi-san is the top product-planning executive within Canon, Inc. responsible for planning their camera offerings.

Yoshiyuki revealed that it will be a major focus in an interview at Imagine Resource website

“Video will play a huge role in the EOS R System for sure,” the executive tells Imaging Resource. “For example, an 8K video capable camera is already in our EOS R-series roadmap.

….It’s Too Early to Predict 8K in Canon EOS Rs

Yes, its too early to predict 8K video mode in Canon EOS Rs Mirrorless cameras. Canon do have 8K Mirrorless camera in their roadmap but it’s too early to expect 8K capable camera from Canon in 2020. We are waiting to get correct set of information from trusted sources.

Canon EOS R APS-C Mirrorless Rumor

Canon EOS R APS-C Mirrorless surfaced over the web again. As per latest rumors we have the camera may arrive in market in 2021. This is just a confirmation, we have told you back on October 2019 that Canon may introduce a RF-Mount APS-C Mirrorless camera sometime in 2020-21.

Canon and Nikon both introduced their Mirrorless system cameras in 2013-2014. Canon as usual arrived with EOS M camera and Nikon started with the Nikon 1 inch sensor based mirrorless camera.

But, eventually Nikon 1 series was discontinued and later on they have introduced the Z mount in 2018 and Z mount based APS-C Mirrorless camera in 2019. The good thing is, Nikon regains the same versatility they have in the DSLR era with their Z Mount of FF and APS-C Mirrorless camera.

At the time of announcement of Canon EOS M mount, canon engineers done a big mistake. The EF-M mount isn’t large enough to accept FF sensor and that’s why they have introduced the RF mount.

In between DSLR to Mirrorless transition Canon lost it’s versatility they had in DSLR era.

So, now there’s a slight possibility that the may jump in the market with RF-Mount based Mirrorless camera.

Take a look what Canon representative said in an interview (published on March 2019 ) related to the possibility of Canon RF-Mount APS-C Mirrorless camera.

AP: Are you going to keep EOS M in its existing form, or are you going to make a APS-C camera with the RF mount?

YM: That’s a product development for the future so I can’t go into detail, and the market will dictate what sort of direction we should take. If the customers do want a small size, lightweight mount I believe there is room for that, so as we said in the previous answer, we will continue to work with the M mount.

Very clearly Canon accepted the possibility of RF mount based APS-C Mirrorless camera in the near future.

We will update you soon as we get any new information.

Sony was also working on affordable FF camera back on 2013. As you can see in the patent a Sony NEX style camera with a FF Sensor inside it. We have also received rumors related the development and announcement of affordable full frame mirrorless camera aka Sony A5 camera with a price tag under $999. But, that model never reached the market.

So, keep in mind if you reading a rumor or even you have seen some specific patent that doesn’t mean it will become reality.

Take it with grain of salt.

Canon EOS RP Uses 6D Mark II Sensor [Confirmation]

DXO Lab sensor test score confirms us that the sensor Canon EOS RP camera uses same sensor as we have seen in Canon 6D Mark II camera [announced on June 29, 2017].  So, yes it is redesigned but we are not able to see any improvements in the sensor performance of camera.

So, those who are stilling willing to upgrade your camera better to wait instead of spending 1000$ and getting the same sensor at the end. And yes Canon EOS M6 II is a better option if you want to capture videos with your camera. Since, Canon EOS RP doesn’t have DPAF in 4K and 1.7X crop too.

Canon EOS R camera features same sensor as we have seen in Canon 5D Mark IV. Finally, we have the specification of the upcoming Canon EOS R Mark II camera coming out from rumor mill.

2. A Quick Analysis – Sensor

From the above leaked specs it’s look like Canon will add a new 32 MP DPAF Sensor in their new camera [we are not sure about sensor resolution],  at the same time rumor-mill failed to tell us about the type of sensor coming. It’s plain CMOS or BSI CMOS.

3. Canon EOS R Mark II have IBIS

Canon to include IBIS inside Canon EOS R Mark II and we were the first website to told you. Canon EOS R Mark II camera will have IBIS to compete against Sony A7 series and Nikon Z series FF Mirrorless camera. Not, only that we have also shown you Canon Mirrorless Camera patents with IBIS inside.

Introduction of Dual Card Slot inside Canon EOS R Mark II is also expected, new generation of Canon FF Mirrorless camera made for professional shooters are said to carry Dual Card slots without a doubt.

Canon Stopped Development of DSLR Lenses

I am really SHOCKED to hear that, Canon representative said in an interview that they have stopped the research and development of Canon new EF or EF-S Lenses. No more new DSLR lenses in the near future until and unless we get we have market demand. [Yes you do have, but why such bad decisions in favor of mirrorless system ?] . Take a look at what they have said in an interview

Canon Europe pro product marketing senior manager, Richard Shepherd, said that while Canon will continue to support EF lenses, the plan is to focus on RF lenses.

‘As you know, last year we launched the RF mount and EOS R system […] To date we’ve launched ten critically acclaimed lenses, and as it’s a new system we plan to continue this, launching more RF lenses while still fully supporting the EF lens system. And of course, should the market demand it, we are ready to create new EF lenses. But for now, our focus is on RF.’

It’s a clear hint that they are running on the same DSLR cannibalization policy they have opted back on 2018.  But wait, I also do own a bunch of Canon EF Lenses and can you believe they have just silently killed Canon’s EF mount was released 33 years ago.

But why Canon 1DX Mark III and 90D if they are on DSLR cannibalization ?

They need a buffer time to create more options in front of their new and existing user base. There are a lot of people who are still not ready to commit in the new Mirrorless system. And do they also have logical reasoning which includes a very limited ECO system of RF mount and absence of professional body.

So, at the end Canon don’t want to lose their DSLR user base to a different brand due to absence of proper options. These new DSLR camera are strategic update to retain the DSLR user-base for 3-4 years, so they can bring more options [Mirrorless cameras] in front of DSLR in the next few years.

We will update you soon as we get any new information.
