TNC Exclusive: Fujitsu announced that it has received an order for a new supercomputer system from Canon. The supercomputer’s benefits will ultimately help to deliver an enhanced product development flow through Canon’s “no-prototype” initiative. This system is planned to begin operations in the first half of 2021.
Canon is promoting a “no-prototype” initiative in the development of its products, such as office multifunction devices and other various types of printers, cameras, and semiconductor lithography equipment. To make this initiative a reality, Canon is leveraging 3D CAD data in analytical simulations to evaluate multiple facets of proposed products, including functionality, as well as ease of manufacturing. In the past, Canon has relied on both a Fujitsu Supercomputer PRIMEHPC FX10 system and a Fujitsu Supercomputer PRIMEHPC FX100 system.
Now, to take its initiative to the next level, Canon has adopted Fujitsu’s PRIMEHPC FX1000 system, which delivers reliable, high-performance computing power, with world-leading energy efficiency.
And finally an unexpected announcement from Canon that literally changes the game. Canon will be reasing a EF-EOS R Mount adapter with 0.71x crop factor for the Canon C70 camera.
Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R 0.71x – an EF Lens to RF Mount adapter giving filmmakers the freedom to use the entire EF lens line-up with the EOS C70, optimizing compatibility across two of Canon’s most popular lens lines.
Full-function lenses can communicate various information with the EOS C70. The following three lenses are full supported without a firmware update: EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM, EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM. Lenses other than full-function lenses can also shoot with a brighter f-number with an equivalent angle of view as full frame. We will continue to expand the range of full-function lenses by gradually upgrading the firmware.
When paired with the EOS C70, the Mount Adapter EF-EOS R 0.71x employs an optical conversion to capture a Full Frame angle of view of an EF lens even when used with a Super 35mm sensor, as well as an increased light transmission of approximately 1-stop. The adapter enables full communication between three EF lenses and the camera body – EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM, EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, and EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM- providing continued support for Canon’s extensive range of EF lenses. Auto Focus, peripheral illumination and chromatic aberration correction, and the transfer of lens metadata are also fully supported when using the Mount Adapter EF-EOS R 0.71x
Available for full-function lenses which include the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM, EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM Lenses. Canon plans to gradually expand the list of compatible lenses by providing free-of-charge firmware updates in 2021.
