Not only did I contribute to the design of this camera but we managed to get a prototype and shoot a music video a few weeks ago. I believe we are the first independent team to shoot anything with the NEX FS100.
When I got the call we were told we could have the camera for a little over 24hrs.
We wanted to do more than just simply test it. But also we wanted to see what we could get out of the camera with stock lenses and recording internally.
So James from www.hangmanstudios.com teamed up with Den from www.fstopacademy.com and we pulled off this amazing shoot in 48hrs. Needless to say we didn’t get much sleep but we valued the opportunity and wanted to shoot as much as we could in as many environments as we could.
We especially wanted to push the low light capability and use the in camera media. It shoots to SD cards, Sony Memory sticks and also has a 128GB FMU which is a solid state pack that integrates with the camera and will give up to 10 hrs record time at 24mb/s AVC HD.
We shot everything at 24mb/s AVC HD and ingested into FCP and transcoded to ProRes 422 using Log and transfer.
Shot over a 36 hr period in one weekend on one of only 2 prototype NEX FS 100 Cameras in the world.
We used 3 lenses:
A Sony Alpha 50mm f1.4 with alpha to emount adaptor
A E mount 16mm f2.8
The Stock lens 18-200 f3.5-5.6

Press Release WAYNE, NJ, March 7, 2011 －JVC today announced the availability of a new 3D consumer camcorder, the first on the consumer market that offers 3D video recording in Full High Definition. The new JVC GS-TD1 uses two camera lenses and two imaging sensors – one for each lens – to capture three-dimensional images in much same way that human eyes work.
3D video shot using the GS-TD1 can be viewed in 3D on any 3D TV. What’s more, the camcorder can shoot 3D video that can be burned to a Blu-ray disc or DVD-R for 3D playback on a compatible Blu-ray player.
“With more commercially-produced 3D content coming along this year, sales of 3D TVs are expected to be strong,” observed Dave Owen, Vice President, Consumer Video, JVC U.S.A. “But what could be better than creating your own home videos in 3D? We think there will be plenty of 3D TV buyers eager to do just that. Furthermore, we think they’ll appreciate that our new camcorder offers both Full HD 3D recording and several options for archiving and playing back their 3D footage.”
The JVC GS-TD1 features a pair of 3.32 megapixel CMOS sensors and a new JVC-developed high-speed imaging engine that processes the two Full HD images – left and right images at 1920 x 1080i resolution. Three shooting modes are offered, a key feature that provides several options for HD resolution and archiving of 3D footage. These three shooting modes are: a new “LR Independent” format (MP4 MVC) that records in Full HD, the widely used “Side-by-Side” format (960 x 1080 X 2) for AVCHD 3D recording, and 2D AVCHD shooting.
The camcorder uses a F1.2 JVC 3D Twin HD GT Lens that sets a new standard in high-resolution lenses, with extra-low-dispersion glass for crisp, high-contrast images, as well as multiple aspherical lenses for fine image reproduction. The GS-TD1 operates like other consumer JVC camcorders, with easy-to-use, intuitive controls. A 3.5” 3D touch panel LCD monitor displays 3D images without any need for 3D glasses, making it easy to check 3D images while shooting and watch 3D playback in the field.
The GS-TD1 comes with new Everio MediaBrowser 3D software (for Windows®) for full management, editing and sharing of content. In addition to full-fledged video and still image editing, files can be uploaded effortlessly to social media sites such as YouTube™ or Facebook, and the software allows 3D video to be shared on YouTube.
For archiving and playing back 3D recordings, there are several options depending on the shooting mode used.
Full HD 3D video, shot using the MP4 MVC mode, can be archived to a computer hard drive or Blu-ray disc drive. This Full HD material can be played back in 3D by running the footage back through the camcorder.
AVCHD 3D (Side-by-Side mode) video can be burned to a DVD-R disc and played back in 3D on any AVCHD-compatible Blu-ray player – including non-3D AVCHD-compatible Blu-ray players – when the disc was created with a PC or JVC Share Station.

Under the name of the Nikon D5000, the official Nikon Korea has leaked that clearly seems to be announced Nikon D5100. News coming from EOS HD, Canon working on a new codec for the 5D Mark 3 based on the MPEG format. It will feature a 4-2-2 colour space and a variable bit rate, up to 50mbit. It is the DSLR version of the codec used in the XF305 (The Canon XF305 and XF300 PRO Camcorder models, both come in under $8,000 also use the same MPEG-2 4:2:2 50Mbps codec.)
The 4-2-2 colour sampling and the 14bit A/D converters on the sensor will deliver more lifelike color and smooth gradated tones like high quality still images.
