Canon R7 Mark II Camera Price, Release Date, and Specifications

Canon R7 II

The Canon R7 Mark II camera is one of the most rumoured Canon cameras of 2025. Yes, as much as I am waiting for the Canon R6 Mark III, a lot of APS-C users love to get the R7 Mark II asap. However, we have to accept the fact that the R7 was overdue for an update. The original Canon R7 camera was announced back in 2022 — a prosumer-grade camera with high-end core specifications at that time. However, in 2025, the Canon R7 requires an urgent update as soon as possible. Let’s talk about the different sets of sources that are sharing information related to the Canon R7 Mark II camera’s arrival date.

Canon R7 Mark II Camera Arrival Date

Before we jump to conclusions and give you a time frame when the Canon R7 Mark II is actually coming, let’s discuss the most updated set of information we have related to the announcement date of the Canon R7 Mark II camera from the two most trusted sources.

Source 1 – Jan WegenerAs we have discussed in the previous article, the trusted source, Mr. Wegener, said –  I’ve reached out to my sources again, but no one has really heard anything about the camera just yet. That doesn’t mean it’s not coming soon, but it makes it less likely that a release is imminent. Wegener’s use of “not imminent”  clearly means not in the next one to two months—that is, August and September. However, “that doesn’t mean it’s not coming soon”. It certainly leaves room for a possible announcement in Q4 of 2025—that is, from October to December 2025.

Source 2 – According to CanonRumors – One of the most trusted names in the rumor industry, and their sources, the Canon R7 Mark II camera will arrive at the IBC trade show in September 2025. It’s a major product event, and historically, Canon has used the IBC platform to showcase video cameras and announce cinema-related products.  BUT, the chances look less likely since the IBC trade show has always been a platform for video-centric and video-related announcements. Yes, Canon does showcase their cameras in their booth, but that’s not the standard platform for Canon Mirrorless cameras-related announcements. One more thing,  if we look at the previous 5-year pattern, Canon generally avoids the August and September months of the year for their mirrorless camera-related announcements.

Between September to December 2025

If we create a timeline of possible arrival dates from all the latest sets of information we have – from CanonRumor to Jan Wegener – everyone is pointing out the announcement of the Canon R7 Mark II camera between September to December 2025. That indicates that the R7 Mark II camera is coming for sure in the next few months; it’s just a matter of time and information. We will soon get the exact date of its arrival.

Canon R7 Mark II Camera Price

  • The Canon R7 Mark II camera body is likely to cost around $1799 to $1999 USD
  • Paired with a kit lens (18–150mm), the price is expected to range somewhere around $2100 to $2500 USD

Two factors affect the price of the Canon R7 Mark II camera:

  • So the primary factor that will affect the Canon R7 Mark II camera price is the massive upgrade inside the body. Canon will surely bring a new sensor and image processor inside the R7 Mark II camera body. Rumours suggest the camera may potentially include a 33 to 40 megapixel sensor, which may have a stacked design integrated inside it to improve the overall performance. So it’s quite obvious to expect the price hike in the Canon R7 series camera body price if the R7 Mark II camera is coming with a massive update.
  • The second factor that potentially impacts the cost or the pricing of the Canon R7 Mark II camera is the tariff imposed by the USA on Japanese-manufactured products, including cameras. So historical trends suggest a possible price hike that we are expecting approximately somewhere in between 10 to 15% for the affected products. So that’s also a reason that will surely impact the Canon R7 Mark II camera price.

Considering these two basic factors, the price of the Canon R7 Mark II camera body and kit lens is expected to have a higher price tag compared to its predecessor.

Canon R7 Mark II Camera Core Specification

There’s a 75% or more chance that we will have a 33 MP stacked sensor. But at the very same time, as we have discussed, there have also been some rumors in the past related to a 40MP sensor. So we are considering both. Here is the rumored specification table of the Canon R7 Mark II camera:

Rumored Specification Table of Canon R7 Mark II Camera

The EOS R7 Mark II is rumored to feature significant upgrades, positioning it as a premium APS-C camera. Here are the key specifications based on recent leaks:

Feature Details
Sensor 33MP to 40MP APS-C stacked CMOS sensor, offering faster readout and reduced rolling shutter.
Processor DIGIC X with DIGIC Accelerator for enhanced autofocus and processing speed.
Stabilization Up to 8.5 stops of in-body image stabilization (IBIS) for low-light and video.
Viewfinder 2.36M-dot OLED EVF, potentially with improved refresh rates.
Shutter 40 FPS electronic shutter, possibly no mechanical shutter.
Video 4K 120FPS with Canon Log 3, potential up to 6k 120FPS / 8K 60 FPS recording.
Form Factor Larger body with EOS R5 Mark II-like ergonomics, improved grip, and AF joystick.
Memory Slots Likely dual slots: CFexpress Type B and UHS-II SD.
Additional Features Pre-continuous shooting, in-camera upscaling.

These specs suggest Canon is aiming for a flagship APS-C camera, potentially rivaling Fujifilm’s X-T5

Canon R7 Mark II: APS-C Powerhouse Like the Canon R1, Canon’s 7D series has always been called the Mini 1D / 1DX series in Canon. So, from that POV, we can say Canon R1 Mini is coming next. Canon always creates a big leap between the core specifications of two flagship cameras, so we are expecting a massive update over the specs of the existing Canon R7 Camera. Finally, even if it arrives at a higher price point with a major upgrade, photography professionals will feel it is reasonable to pay that price.

Canon Upcoming Cameras 2025 – 2026

Canon R7 Mark II Announcement Delayed? Jan Wegener Hints

The Canon R7 camera was launched in 2022, and users are eagerly awaiting an update. If you look at the set of rumours we received a few months ago, all point towards the announcement of the Canon R7 Mark II camera in late 2025.

Even in our previous post, Canon Next Announcement, we clearly stated that the announcement is expected to occur between August and November 2025.

Now let’s talk about Jan Wegener. His lots of his previous information was correct, and recently he also told us that the Canon R6 Mark III camera is coming with a 30-plus megapixel sensor. (Canon R6 Mark III specification)

Now, today he updated again, and according to him:

On the topic of new cameras and lenses, I’ve also been asked by so many of you guys, what about the R7 Mark II? and I’ve reached out to my sources again, but no one has really heard anything about the camera just yet. That doesn’t mean it’s not coming soon, but it makes it less likely that a release is imminent.

A Short Analysis of Information

Wegener’s use of “not imminent”  clearly means not in the next one to two months—that is, August and September. However, “that doesn’t mean it’s not coming soon”. It certainly leaves room for a possible announcement in Q4 of 2025—that is, from October to December.

So don’t lose hope, since he also said that the announcement is not very close to us—that doesn’t mean his sources completely ruled out the possibility of the Canon R7 Mark II camera announcement in the year 2025. We can expect its arrival in the later months.

If you look at Canon’s past 5 years of announcements, they haven’t announced a single mirrorless camera in August or September. So, possibly Q4 of 2025 looks plausible.

Canon Upcoming Cameras 2025 – 2026

What’s Next from Canon – Canon R6 III, R7 II or R10 II

What’s Next from Canon – Canon R6 Mark III, R7 Mark II or R10 Mark II So, first let’s talk about the key points, then we will dive into the details.

  • Earlier, it was expected that the Canon R7 Mark II camera would arrive in late August 202,5, targeting sports and wildlife photographers with its advanced set of features. We had a lot of rumours related to that in the past, even the leaked specifications, but for now, the rumour mills are silent on this.
  • The second most popular camera, also expected to arrive in the late months of 2025, is the Canon R6 Mark III. As we were the first to tell you, according to the real testers of the prototype, the camera does have a 30+ megapixel sensor inside it.
  • The next model is potentially the Canon R10 Mark II camera or the Canon R8 V. While the Canon R8 V is expected to arrive in the first or second quarter of 2026, the Canon R10 Mark II is due for an update. However, as usual, Canon will select only one APS-C camera for its announcement, to avoid cannibalising its sales.

Canon Registered Model and Timelines

  • DS126922: EOS R5 II (Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 & Bluetooth)
  • DS126928: EOS R1 (Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 & Bluetooth)
  • DS126941: EOS R50 V (Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 & Bluetooth)
  • DS126904: PowerShot V1 (Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 & Bluetooth)
  • ID174: Unknown (Dual-band Wi-Fi 5)
  • ID179: Unknown (Dual-band Wi-Fi 5)
  • ID0814: Unknown (Dual-band Wi-Fi 5)
  • DS126916: Unknown (Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 & Bluetooth)
  • DS126936: Unknown (Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 & Bluetooth)

Out of all the registered cameras in 2025, we have 3 cinema cameras and 2 mirrorless models from Canon. We generally keep track of Canon-registered cameras every month, and if you look at our previous two posts of May (May 2025 Update) and July (July 2025 Update), you will find that Canon registered several cameras in those two months. . Both of them have Dual WiFi 5 (we are talking about DS models / Mirrorless only) – Wireless Transfer Unit, generally higher-end cameras like Canon R5 II and Canon R1 use Dual-band Wifi 6, so these two registered models are not High-End full-frame cameras., So we are ruling out the earlier rumored cameras like Canon R1 / R1x variants, OR the Canon R3 Mark II. No, high-end Mirrorless in the announcement pipeline as of now.

As usual, camera makers like Canon typically take at least 3 to 4 months to announce their products once they’re registered in wireless certification agencies. And if they go through the same rule they always follow, we will have at least two Mirrorless announcements from Canon between August and November 2025

Now let’s talk about the Cameras we are expecting next from Canon

Canon Next Mirrorless Announcements

Canon R7 Mark II – The camera that has been registered in May 2025 is expected to be the Canon R7 Mark II with a model code DS126922. The camera is overdue for an update, and we are expecting its arrival from August to November 2025. That’s the initial hint that we have received from the industry experts. The camera is specifically designed for sports and wildlife photography, for those who are looking for a high-performance camera without putting cost to full-frame options.

Canon R6 Mark III – Canon R6 Mark III is another model that we are expecting in 2025. We have already published its rumoured specifications, and we are confirmed that it is coming with a 30+ megapixel sensor. The camera is coming with a significant update for photographers as well as videographers, and its early test phase has been completed. Now we are waiting for its official announcement. As usual, August and September are usually one of the favourite months in the year for Canon for its product announcements, so let’s hope that this August and September, we will witness the arrival of the Canon R6 Mark III camera.

Additional Cameras

Canon R10 Mark II – The Canon R10 Mark II camera was announced in May 2022 and is now due for a refresh. It needs energy and an update, so we are channelising information related to this camera too. As soon as we get any update on it, we will publish it soon.

Canon R8V Camera – The Canon R8V camera is rumoured to arrive in the first half of 2026. If Canon announces it early, it will be a surprise announcement for us.

Canon R7 Mark II Coming without Mechanical Shutter

According to the latest news on the web via rumor mills, the Canon R7 Mark II camera is coming without a mechanical shutter. The successor to the Canon R7 camera will arrive in Q4 of 2025. Canon R7 series is always called as trend setter of the prosumer market, it always sets a new standard in terms of performance, usability, and practicality

A Shutterless Future for Canon APS-C Cameras?

See, the idea of ditching the mechanical shutter is not entirely new. If you have been following, then Nikon made headlines years ago by dropping the mechanical shutter in the Nikon Z8 and the Nikon Z9 camera. It did raise the eyebrows of professional photographers—those who have been using mechanical shutters for ages— but none of them have any performance quality issues.

A mechanical shutter is required when your sensor readout speed is slow. Typically, all the traditional non-stacked CMOS sensors had slow readout speed, and with the help of a mechanical shutter, the traditional readout speed gets overridden; hence, the mechanical shutter was a very essential thing, till the stacked CMOS sensors arrived in the mirrorless game.

Do Stacked CMOS Sensors Need a Mechanical Shutter?

Now, with the faster readout speed, new age sensors, technically, the stacked CMOS sensors don’t need a mechanical shutter. With faster readout speeds, these sensors minimize rolling shutter distortion, which was a key limitation of electronic shutters in the past. For example, the latest Nikon cameras, the Z8 and Z9, feature stacked CMOS sensors with a readout speed of approximately 3.73ms (1/268 second) for full-resolution RAW stills, among the fastest for HIGH RES. full-frame cameras. This speed significantly reduces rolling shutter artefacts, making mechanical shutters largely redundant for most shooting scenarios.

The Sony Alpha 9 III takes this further with its full-frame global shutter sensor, which captures all pixels simultaneously, effectively eliminating rolling shutter distortion (rendering traditional readout speed measurements irrelevant). This allows distortion-free capture at 120fps for stills and in high-speed video modes like 4K/120p, without the need for a mechanical shutter.

Mechanical shutters are no longer critical for exposure control in these cameras; they still have some use, however, and can serve a secondary purpose: protecting the sensor from dust and debris when the camera is powered off or during lens changes. For example, the Nikon Z8 and Z9 incorporate a sensor shield that closes when the camera is off, addressing this concern without requiring a traditional mechanical shutter.

Canon EOS R7 Mark II (Rumored) APS-C Stacked BSI CMOS 32.5MP (Speculated) 40fps (Speculated) Expected Q3/Q4 2025

Take a look at the updated list of Canon R7 Mark II expected core specifications below

Our Take

Mechanical shutters are expensive to produce, add complexity to camera bodies, and have a finite lifespan due to their moving parts. By going fully electronic, Canon could streamline production and potentially pass savings on to consumers. While using a STACKED CMOS sensor, Electronic shutters can also offer distinct advantages without worrying about the rolling shutter issue. Some Advantages include silent operation, faster burst rates, and higher shutter speeds (up to 1/16,000 sec on the current R7). It’s a welcome and very innovative step by Canon if the information is true.

What do you think about a shutterless R7 Mark II? Would you embrace the change, or do you prefer the reliability of a mechanical shutter? Let us know in the comments below!

Canon Upcoming Cameras 2025

Canon Upcoming Camera Specification Leaked

It is said that Canon will release a new APS-C camera in the first half of the year, and its specifications have been leaked, although the specs was leaked without mentioning the name of the model: The rumor was published on camerabeata webio

Canon Upcoming Camera Specification

  • the new camera uses a 24.1-megapixel stacked CMOS sensor;
  • with DIGIC X processor + DIGIC accelerator;
  • supports 6K RAW and 120-fps 4K video shooting;
  • a new body design;
  • high-speed continuous shooting of 30 frames per second;
  • supports C-Log2/C-Log3;
  • equipped with a full-size HDMI interface;
  • expected price of US$1,500;

TNC analysis

As per the rumor, specifications suggest it looks like an Upcoming APS-C flagship camera. We 100% confirm that Canon R7 Mark II coming this year,

Based on the rumored specs we can, we can clearly see a camera with a 24-megapixel stacked CMOS sensor with a DIGIC X processor and DIGIC accelerator. Not only that, the camera is also capable of recording 6K RAW and 120 fps 4K, A new body design has also been hinted at,

But again, the biggest loophole in the shared specification is the sensor resolution. The Canon R7 series already uses a 33.2 MP sensor, and even the competitors now like the Sony A6700, Fuji X-T5, and even some baseline models like the Sony ZV-E10 II and even fuji X-M5 use high-resolution sensors. So, Canon has no option other than to bring a 32.3 MP stacked CMOS sensor in the upcoming Canon R7 Mark II.

Will Canon go back in terms of resolution or sacrifice resolution in favor of speed? That’s the big question.

Now even if it’s a dedicated EOS C cinema camera (Canon R7C), Canon will never announce it in $1500 price range, Generally, cinema camera prices are comparatively higher, even the Sony FX30 which was announced back on 2023, comes at $1799 BODY ONLY price tag.

Let me know in the comment section what u guys think about this… I would love to see a Canon camera with this kind of specification in $1500 price range in 2025.

Canon R7 Mark II with 4k 120 fps Coming - More Confirmation

Canon will add 4K 120fps video recording capability to Canon R6 III as well as Canon R7 Mark II in 2025. According to the latest rumors,  Canon is testing out the Canon R7 Mark II camera body prototypes, here is what surfaced over the web a while ago. Despite the tech. designed to maintain DR and low-light performance, the sensor readout speed is impressively fast. With the Digic accelerator, it supports 4K at 120 FPS, but cropping happens in HQ mode. However, is that when you enable pixel binning, you can record 4K at 120 FPS without any cropping.”

One thing, if the above is true then the Canon R7 Mark II, without a doubt a video beast, even Sony FX30 does crop at 4k 120fps.
