Sony ZV-1F vs Sony ZV1 - Best Sony Compact Vlogging Camera of 2025

Sony ZV-1F vs Sony ZV1 – The Sony ZV1F camera is $250 cheaper than the Sony ZV1. The biggest noticeable difference is the lens of the and the HYBRID AF SENSOR inside the ZV1 camera. With the Sony ZV1F, we are getting a 20mm prime lens and with the Sony ZV1, we are getting a 24-70 eg zoom lens. So, of course, you will lose some flexibility u have in the Sony ZV1 camera, but at the same time, you will gain a little bit more wide-angle coverage which is highly important when you are creating content with the camera, for which it is made. For the first time in a Sony vlogging camera, we are about to witness a cold shoe, it can only act as an external mic holder but it doesn’t have any active contacts inside it.

1. Sensor Details

Sony ZV-1F Sony ZV1
Sensor Resolution Effective: 20.1 Megapixel (5472 x 3648) Effective: 20.1 Megapixel (5472 x 3648)
Aspect Ratio 1:1, 3:2, 4:3, 16:9 1:1, 3:2, 4:3, 16:9
Sensor Type 13.2 x 8.6 mm (1″-Type) CMOS 1″-Type CMOS
Image File Format JPEG JPEG, Raw
Image Stabilization Digital Digital, Optical

we have two different variations of Sony’s 1-inch sensor being used in Sony ZV-series compact cameras, the first one of the CDAF sensor being used in the ZV-1F camera, and the other variation of Sony compact the ZV-1, which uses HYBRID CMOS AF sensor, comes at a higher price.

Recommendation

So, the autofocusing performance of the camera upscales the video recording performance to the next level, so if ur able to upscale your budget and get the Sony ZV1 camera you must get that.

Yes, we do have all the fancy Auto Focus modes we have witnessed in the ZV1.  But as usual, the hardware is missing (no active Hybrid AF points). Despite all the -ve things, we do have some good news in the AF department. At least the Eye AF mode of the camera works well and tracks AF all the time.

2. Optical Zoom / Prime Lens

Sony ZV-1F Sony ZV1
Focal Length 7.6mm (35mm Equivalent Focal Length: 20mm) 9.4 to 25.7mm (35mm Equivalent Focal Length: 24 to 70mm)

Minimum Aperture f/8 f/11
Focus Range 2″ to Infinity / 5 cm to Infinity f/11
Optical Design 6 Elements in 6 Groups 10 Elements in 9 Groups

3. Missing Mechanical Image Stabilization

Sony ZV1-F camera doesn’t have any kind of Mechanical IS, which includes Sensor shift IS and OSS [Lens based]. Not only that Gyro IS is also missing, but the good news is we are getting at least EIS [electronic Image stabilization] from the camera. And when you implement it you have to face a 1.25X crop which turns your 20mm lens into a 25mm lens. That’s the only major positive thing I like inside ZV1-F is even after implementing EIS feature the widest coverage is similar to the ZV1 24mm focal length.

4. Exposure Control

5. Video Resolution and Time Limit

As you can see the Sony ZV1-F camera is limited to 29 Min recording timeline and the frame rates are also limited, it a clear indication that Sony not only wants to increase its consumer base they also want to save the ZV1 sales, by cutting down some basic features from the camera.

Sony ZV-1 F Camera Specification

According to the latest rumors surfaced over the web, the upcoming Sony vlogging camera name is Sony ZV-1F and the specification of the camera is

Sony ZV-1F Camera Specification

  • October 13, 2022, 23:00 Japan time
  • Most likely a fixed-lens camera
  • Lower price than ZV-1
  • Not a successor to the ZV-1
  • 20mm F2 lens
  • 20 million pixel sensor
  • new menu
  • USB-C
  • JPG only
  • 4K 24p
  • 1080p 60p
  • New icon on a touch monitor
  • Compact design for Vloggers

From the specification we have, it’s very clear that the Sony ZV1 F is a VLOGCAM. The camera will have an even lower price than the Sony ZV1 compact vlogging camera and hence it’s not a true successor of the camera.  The camera will give only JPEG output only, no RAW files which cleary means the camera is aimed at beginner vloggers.

Canon M50 Mark II Discontinued in Japan ?

According to a popular Japanese camera news information website asobinet.com, the Canon EOS M50 Mark II (Kiss M2) is partially Discontinued in Japan. Take a look at what they have to say

This time, we were able to confirm that sales have ended for two types, the “EF-M15-45 IS STM Lens Kit” and “Double Lens Kit” (sales have also ended at direct sales stores).

. As of now, there is no sign that Canon will introduce a successor model to the EOS Kiss M2, and it may gradually integrate the APS-C system into the EOS R. That said, it seems difficult to judge at what stage the EOS M system, which is popular in Asia, will be closed

So, as usual, the camera makers do nowadays, they do country-wise discontinuation. As soon as its demand goes low in other Asian countries or in USA, the production of M50 II is likely to be stopped.

stay tuned, We will post more updates soon

The Nikon Re-Branding Saga Continues with 17-28mm F2.8 Lens

Again one more re-branded lens?  So, it looks like Nikon is in the mood to announce Tamron’s most popular Trio Lenses under its name. Now we are waiting for the third one the Tamron 70-180mm F2.8 VXD under the NIKKOR brand.

Just as Nikon did with its Nikkor Z 28–75mm F2.8 lens, which appeared to be reworked and rebadged Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 lens, this Nikkor Z 17-28mm F2.8 seems to essentially be a ‘Nikonized’ version of Tamron’s 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD lens. dpreview

The Nikkor Z 17-28mm F2.8 will be available ‘in late October 2022’ for an MSRP of $1,200.

Capture the Big Picture with Nikon’s Latest Affordable f/2.8 Zoom Lens

MELVILLE, NY (September 20, 2022) Nikon Inc. has announced the NIKKOR Z 17-28mm f/2.8, the latest addition to the growing selection of extremely-capable and very affordable f/2.8 zoom lenses. This new full-frame lens combines the versatility of an ultra-wide angle of field view with the benefits of large fixed aperture, putting low light performance and gorgeous bokeh within reach.

“The amount of NIKKOR Z lenses continues to increase at a rapid pace, giving all kinds of creators mirrorless lenses built with the latest in optical innovation,” said Jay Vannatter, Executive Vice President, Nikon Inc. “The new NIKKOR Z 17-28mm f/2.8 is derived from the same mutual concept as the recent NIKKOR Z 28-75mm f/2.8 lens, establishing a series of affordable zooms that open a gateway to fast-aperture performance and absolute versatility.”

The NIKKOR Z 17-28mm f/2.8 is a lens for storytellers, captivating the viewer with vast landscapes, grand interiors or enveloping their senses with the starry night sky. The combination of the ultra-wide angle perspective and bright constant f/2.8 aperture liberates the creator, turning everyday scenes into impressive images and videos that grab the viewers’ attention or establish the scene. This wide aperture not only enhances the lens’ low light performance, but also creates a gorgeous out-of-focus area to make the subject pop. Scenes that were previously difficult to photograph are easier than ever to capture in vibrant detail, such as a packed dance floor at a wedding reception or a backlit subject within a cityscape.

The new NIKKOR Z 17-28mm f/2.8 is ready to go anywhere. This extremely lightweight and portable lens weighs in at only 450 g (15.9 oz), which is approximately 30% lighter than the NIKKOR Z 14-24mm f/2.8. It’s also lighter and more compact than the NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 lens, and uses a 67mm threaded mount for circular polarizers or neutral density filters. The lens’ minimal weight and internal zooming make it easy to pack or carry anywhere, and create an ideal partner for gimbals since the balance of the lens never changes.

The lens is constructed for creators who aren’t afraid to go off the beaten path in pursuit of their content. The entire lens is sealed to prevent entry of dust and water droplets¹, while the front element features an antifouling coating which makes it easy to wipe away dirt, smudges and fingerprints. The NIKKOR Z 17-28mm f/2.8 puts an emphasis on sharpness, utilizing an optical formula that employs a Super ED glass element for maximum image quality at all focal lengths.

Autofocus speed is blazing fast, thanks to the use of a high-speed stepping motor (STM), working seamlessly with Nikon Z mirrorless cameras to acquire critical focus on faces and eyes within the frame. The STM is also nearly silent, significantly reducing drive noise during video recording. Video content creators will especially appreciate the minimized focus breathing and click-less control ring for smooth exposure transitions. For additional versatility in photos and video, minimum focus distance is a mere 7.56 inches (0.19 m)², letting users get close-up for products and beauty shots with a magnificently blurred background.

Pricing and Availability

The new NIKKOR Z 17-28mm f/2.8 will be available in late October 2022 for a suggested retail price of $1,199.95*. For more information about the latest Nikon products, including other NIKKOR Z lenses and the entire collection of Z series cameras, please visit nikonusa.com.
