TOKYO – Nikon Corporation (Makoto Kimura, President) is pleased to announce that the COOLPIX S8000 compact digital camera is the recipient of a 2010 Design for Asia (DFA) Merit Recognition.
The DFA Awards are organized by the Hong Kong Design Centre with the purpose of raising awareness amongst businesses and the public about the value of good design as an essential component in business success, as well as for a sustainable, higher quality of life for all. This year’s winners were selected from approximately 400 commercial products released in one or more Asian markets by manufacturers from the world over during a period of roughly two years and seven months—from January 1, 2008 to July 31, 2010. From these, winners were selected based on superiority of design, degree of impact on the Asian lifestyle, and commercial success.
As one of the winners for the DFA Award 2010, COOLPIX S8000 has exhibited at the HKTDC Inno Design Tech (IDT) Expo in Honk Kong on 2 – 4 December 2010.
The DFA Merit Recognition winning Nikon COOLPIX S8000（Released February 2010）offers an effective pixel count of 14.2-million pixels and is equipped with a 10x optical zoom NIKKOR lens that covers a broad range of focal lengths, beginning at the wide-angle 30mm (35mm format equivalent). The refined design makes it the thinnest camera in its class* with a depth of approximately 27.3 mm. The camera is also equipped with a creative slider function for adjusting the brightness, vividness and hue of pictures to be taken to suit individual preferences, as well as a 3-in., 921k-dot, wide viewing angle clear color panel TFT LCD monitor for crisp, vivid display. This stylish, high-power zoom camera will allow users to capture the moment and make the most of their individual creativity.
Nikon working on a D7000 firmware update, this firmware upadet will cure the occasional occurrence of bright spots while recording videos at night with D7000 DSLR.
We have received reports from some users of the Nikon D7000 digital SLR camera regarding the occurrence of noticeable bright spots with movie recording under certain conditions.
Nikon believes that these bright spots are not normally noticeable, and therefore do not indicate a problem with practical use. However, with further investigation of the reports received, we have confirmed that bright spots may be noticeable when recording movies of especially dark scenes or subjects.
In order to provide our customers with better products, Nikon is currently preparing to release a firmware upgrade with measures to reduce the occurrence of these bright spots for the D7000. Further details will be announced at a later date.

DxO team today announced the test data for the Nikon Coolpix P7000, The overall score of Nikon P7000 is 39, whereas the canon G12 overall score is 47.
The leader in this market segment is Canon, with its G series competing with Nikon Coolpix’s P series, and more recently with Samsung, a true newcomer. While Canon had good success with its G11, Nikon missed the target —the P6000 did not seduce, mostly because of its so-so image quality.

Companies to Jointly Develop New Specifications to Meet Needs of Professional Photography and Video Markets
November 30, 2010, Japan – SanDisk Corporation, Sony Corporation and Nikon Corporation today announced the joint development of a set of specifications that address the future requirements of professional photography and video markets. The three companies proposed the specifications to the CompactFlash® Association (CFA)*, the international standards organization, with the intent to standardize the format.
Professional photography and High Definition (HD) video applications require a new generation of memory cards capable of processing significantly larger files. To address the imaging industry’s future speed and capacity demands, SanDisk, Sony and Nikon proposed a new card specification whose performance and storage capabilities surpass those of existing memory cards. Once accepted, the new format will enable exciting new possibilities in the professional imaging and video markets.
The proposed specifications achieve data transfer rates of up to 500 megabytes per second (MB/sec)** (theoretical maximum interface speed) using the highly versatile PCI Express*** interface. The increased speeds will enable imaging and video applications that could not be accomplished using the current CompactFlash specification’s Parallel ATA (PATA)**** interface. CF6.0, released in November 2010, offers maximum performance of up to 167MB/sec.
The new specifications’ faster speeds enable continuous burst shooting of massive RAW images. The enhanced performance also allows users to quickly transfer storage-intensive high-resolution photos and videos from the card to a computer. The specifications combine high-speed data transfer with low power consumption via a power scaling system to extend battery life.
In addition to industry-leading performance capabilities, the new memory card specifications also meet the future capacity and durability requirements of professional imaging applications. The proposed new specifications has the potential to extend theoretical maximum capacities beyond 2 terabytes (TB)*****, making it especially useful for high resolution images and HD video applications. Similar in size to a CompactFlash® card, the new specifications’ access control function and highly durable form factor produce a combination of physical ruggedness and reliability that is indispensable for professional usage models.
