Nikon Z70 Specification [Confirmed]

Finally, we have a confirmed set of specifications for the Nikon Z70 camera. The camera uses a 41-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, which is non-stacked. Earlier, we were expecting a stacked sensor inside the upcoming DX flagship camera, but for now, we have to settle for BSI CMOS.

Take a look at the full set of core specifications of the upcoming Nikon Z70 camera.

Nikon Z70 Key Specifications

Feature Specification
Sensor 41MP DX (APS-C) non-stacked CMOS
Processor EXPEED 7
Video 8K/60p, ProRes RAW, RED technology integration
Still Speed 120 fps refresh rate with AF/AE (D500-class performance)
EVF 5.76-million-dot (same unit as the Nikon Z6 III)
Special Features Digital Teleconverter mode (confirmed via Nikon Singapore material)
Controls Dedicated top-plate REC button
Expected Price Around or under $2,000 (US)
Announcement Window Within the next two weeks (mid-November target)

What’s Solidly Confirmed

  • Body identity and design: Nikon Rumors has confirmed that the official N2416 FCC drawings belong to the Z70. The distinctive top-plate button is a dedicated REC button — a clear sign of the stronger video focus that followed Nikon’s RED acquisition.
  • Digital Teleconverter: Nikon Singapore promotional material for the new NIKKOR Z 120-300mm f/2.8 TC VR S explicitly mentions the Z70 and its Digital Teleconverter. The caption states that pairing the lens with the Z70’s Digital Teleconverter delivers an equivalent of 1,260mm at f/4. This is the strongest official-side confirmation of both the camera name and the feature to date.
  • Earlier signal: The Z70 name briefly appeared on Apple’s official ProRes / ProRes RAW authorised products list in August 2026 (alongside the Z6 III, Z8, Z9, and ZR) before being removed.

What This Means for Photographers

The Nikon Z70 has been presented as the spiritual successor to the ultra-popular D500 DSLR camera. However, if Nikon had introduced a stacked CMOS sensor inside the camera, it would have been a complete game-changer. But they have to keep some ingredients for their future models.

The camera is equipped with a 41-megapixel sensor and can capture 8K video at up to 60 frames per second. It is quite a bit of an indigestible thing that it doesn’t arrive with a fan. Without it, there would be a lot of heat generation that usually happens in high-resolution recording in slow semiconductors (non-stacked). Other than that, the jello effect, or better to say, the rolling shutter effect, may affect the overall 8K video quality while shooting faster-moving objects or subjects.

But let us cut all the worries for now and just hope for the best. As we have seen, the semi/partially stacked CMOS sensor technology inside the Nikon Z6 III and Nikon ZR is able to handle higher resolutions very beautifully. We hope that Nikon will use the same tech inside the upcoming Z70.

The combination of a 41MP sensor + 8K/60p + RED technology + a dedicated REC button suggests Nikon is treating this as a true hybrid flagship rather than a simple Z50 II upgrade. The Digital Teleconverter further strengthens its appeal for long-reach work with the new 120-300mm TC lens.

US pricing is expected to land in the same range as the Z6 III (around or under $2,000 body only). Availability timing remains tied to the announcement window; Nikon has not published an official shipping date yet.

Bottom Line

The Nikon Z70 specification picture is now the most complete and credible of any unannounced Nikon body in 2026. With body drawings confirmed, the Digital Teleconverter referenced in Nikon’s own promotional material, and a consistent spec list from trusted sources, an official announcement in the coming weeks looks increasingly likely.

We’ll update this page the moment Nikon makes it official. In the meantime, this is the clearest look yet at what the Z70 will deliver.
