TNC Exlusive: Dual base ISO coming to Sony A7S III. According to latest rumors surfaced over the web, Sony may implement Dual base ISO at Sony A7S III camera.
From Initial reports, its look like the prototypes of the camera have the Dual Base ISO feature, we do hope that the feature will continue in the production version of the camera.
It’s really a great news for professional filmmakers and serious youtubers if true. Dual native ISO means exactly there are two optimal settings of the camera. So, at native ISO is where Camera Performs best in-terms of SNR (signal to Noise ratio) and Dynamic Range.
Native ISO is actually a saturation point of any camera at which the analogue signal does not need to be modified before it converted into Digital Signal and you get optimal image quality.
So, in Dual base ISO we have two Values first is High Base ISO (ex 2500) and other is low base ISO (ex 500). Increasing the ISO above the lower base number amplifies the output but also increases noise in the image. But when the ISO reaches the higher base ISO, the circuit is switched so the photosites output higher levels without applying the additional gain.
” (A7S II users)They want 4K/60p, 4:2:2 10-bit, and of course more battery power, increased AF accuracy – many things!”
But later in an interview he also added that
dpreview says, Sony’s Kenji Tanaka told us the a7S II successor would be “more than [a7S II users] expect.”
What actually coming inside Sony A7S III ?
Sony very clearly hinting us that upcoming camera have either 6K or 8K video recording options. And as we have published that Sony upcoming A7S III, Sony A7R IV and Sony A9 II camera will have 8K video recording capability. 8K video recording capability doesn’t mean you will get a 8k output, as we know the current line-up of Sony alpha fullframe and mirrorless camera uses 6K videos (Full sensor readout) to create 4K videos.
We have told you a while ago that Sony upcoming cameras will have 8K video recording capability, now we are getting more confirmation about it. It’s a Big Leak Coming out from trusted rumor mill, Upcoming flagship Sony A7 Series and A9 Series Camera. The initial list include Sony A9 II, Sony A7S III and Sony A7R IV to Feature 8K Video Recording Capability.
We are Living in 6K Era
8K isn’t a Big thing for Sony, Sony A6500 (B&H Store | Amazon) camera announced back on October 2016. The Sony A6500 is a $1K camera and it records 6K videos (Full sensor readout) to create 4K videos. And in the same way high-end FF cameras also like, Sony A7III, Sony A7R III and Sony A9 records 6K and then they downscale the recorded data to 4K or Full HD.
Sony A9 II, A7S III and A7R IV to Feature 8K
Initial reports suggest Sony is already actively working to implement 8K videos in their upcoming Mirrorlss camera.
We have just published the details of two upcoming Fullframe sensors from Sony, the 36MP and the 60MP Fullframe sensor. Based on the latest reports we are getting the DUO are capable to record to 8K videos.
We have told you already that Sony A7S III camera may carry the 36MP sensor and if not then the sensor will get reserved for the next iteration of Sony A9 camera, the Sony A9II. And the 60MP sensor is most likely to get inside the Sony A7R IV camera without a doubt.
But, As we all know that Sony A7S series uses low-resolution sensor and more concerned towards its low-light performance. So, we may see a 36MP sensor inside the A9 II instead of A7S III.
One more thing, the 8K will not going to remain limited to Sony. As we all know that Most of the Panasonic G series camera uses Sony sensors. Latest Reports suggest the 36MP sensor is also expected to arrive inside Panasonic Lumix S series camera.
Final Words, it’s not clear that Sony will allow these upcoming camera to give 8K 60fps output to users or limit their capabilities to 8K @ 30fps or 6K @ 60fps.

Sony is using next generation of image stabilization technology in their camcorders. And the name of the technology is called the boss. The full form of boss is body optical steadyshot system. In general Sony developers say it’s like adding a gimble inside a camera.
Boss image stabilization system was introduced 2 years ago in Sony camcorders and we do also hope that they will going to introduced in Sony RX100 series compact cameras as well as rx10 compact camera in near future.
Sony BOSS Image Stabilization system Demo
Now let’s take a look what is actually boss, the unique piece of technology combines the lens and the sensor allowing the camera to compensate for shake in much easier way then hybrid optical image stabilization system where camera manages to compensate the shake with the help of optical image stabilization system as well as sensor shift image stabilization system.
New balanced optical image stabilization system, are they also called it balanced optical steadyshot or boss. literally the camera lens and the sensor is completely join together and act as a single unit to offset the camera external shake. The stabilizer has three settings the first is of one is a standard or normal and the last one is active. you can use the active image stabilization system when you are running on your feets and standard image stabilization system is used when you are working and have less shake. in your hands
Sony BOSS vs Panasonic HYBRID O.I.S
One of the best thing of boss image stabilization system it is said to be 13 times more effective than the traditional sensor shift based image stabilization system. We will going to see how much effective it is when compared to hybrid optical image stabilization system offered by Panasonic.
Sony BOSS Coming to Sony Compacts and Mirrorless ?
When we will see BOSS inside Sony RX100 and RX10 series camera, we don’t know at the moment, but it is possible in future. But at the same time it’s not possible for Sony to implement “BOSS” system to interchangeable lens system based cameras. Since the lens and Sensor unit isn’t fixed and Photographers also use third party lenses.
List of Camera using Sony BOSS IS system
We have created a list of Sony camcorders which uses Sony BOSS optical image stabilization system. Let’s have a look

Sony will use 50+MP Sensor for Sony A7R IV
Despite of creating one of the best high-resolution full frame cameras in the market, Sony is still behind resolution of Canon 5ds R camera. So resolution wise Sony is still lagging behind Canon. And they need to overcome that.
There is a big possibility that Sony may use 54MP or 60MP Stacked CMOS sensor for their Sony A7R IV camera. It’s necessary for Sony to surpass the Canon 5DSR Resolution barrier and to become No.1 in competition.
