its image quality is really good and, considering that the camera is now made with a plastic shell, it still feels robust and well put together. If Canon would just lower the price by $150 or so, then I’d say this was an ideal upgrade to those users with a Rebel camera

The 18 megapixel CMOS sensor and expanded ISO range produce virtually no visible noise at all from ISO 100 all the way up to ISO 1600, with even the three faster settings of 3200-12800 producing perfectly usable images. All other image quality aspects are up to Canon’s usual high standards, so top marks go to the 60D in this department.

D7000 vs 60D Low Light Test

I did test again (earlier one here: http://vimeo.com/16196365) to address two complaints about the earlier test, the white balance and the focus. The white balance was set to Auto before, leading to two different color temperatures. This time I set the white balance on both to 3300k (3330k on the Nikon, because it doesn’t have 3300k). Also, some people thought that the Canon looked improbably soft in comparison to the Nikon, so I made sure to triple check the focus this time. Both lenses are set to infinity and looked focused through the viewfinder and when zoomed in on the LCD.

The lenses are the same Zeiss Distagon 35mm f/2 on each camera. The tripods are also the same.

Thanks to Marco for taking the time to provide his technical expertise.

I posted more thoughts about the test on Adorama’s blog (http://bit.ly/9OEOzu) and my own Tumblr (nathanleebush.tumblr.com).

Firmware Update - Nikon P100

The following improvements have been made in version 1.1.

– Distortion control and Auto bracketing can now be enabled at the same time.
– An issue that caused light sources to appear green with continuous shooting in Night landscape scene mode has been resolved.
– When the camera was turned on by pressing the playback button with the mode dial set to “U” (user setting mode), and the MENU button then pressed, an error message was displayed. This issue has been resolved.
– An issue that prevented the zoom from operating when the zoom control was pressed in the “T” direction and then immediately pressed in the “W” direction has been resolved.
– An issue that prevented the shutter speed display from blinking when the shutter speed specified with the mode dial set to “S” would result in under-exposure has been resolved.

Quick Guide: About Sensor Channel
Sensor Channel are the output data lane from sensor… 8 is better than 4 since it can transfer more data at the same time….The faster the camera can get the data off the sensor the faster it can fire the next shot.. resulting more fps (frames per second) in continuous brust/shooting mode.

No 1Ds Mark IV ?

From past few days HOT rumors coming >> No more 1Ds Mark IV ??<<

Now what left in our hand is 5D Mark II….to make 5D flaghip camera Canon have to improve metering systems of current 5D, Weather sealed Construction, improved Battery life/size and a bit more Ergonomics like 1ds model.

CR and NL also talking about the upcoming medium format camera of canon…

Canon Pro70

AS Said by CR

It has recently been suggested to me that there will not be a 1Ds Mark IV at all.

The 5D Mark III (or whatever it’s called) will be aimed to take over the market for 1Ds user………
……………The same person says it’s possible that a new camera at the top of the lineup aimed solely at the medium format market, but not a medium format camera, will come to fruition. The design will be a radical departure (possibly modular).

As said by NL

A bit more info (thanks) on the follow up to the 1Ds3. The tight link between the 1D and ‘Ds’ versions is likely to be broken. The top camera will no longer be a 1D with an FF sensor/shutter/viewfinder, and is likely to have a different name.
Canon is aiming at competing much more with medium format.

E-PL1s Coming?
