the Panasonic G3’s dramatic improvement in image quality that truly impresses us. Micro Four Thirds sensors have long been discounted because of their smaller overall sensor area when compared to APS-C cameras, but the quality we see in the Panasonic G3 turns that criticism on its head.
The Lumix DMC-G3 is the most well-rounded Panasonic compact system camera to date, offering a great mix of cutting-edge features, improved image quality, intuitive and customisable handling, and a very competitive price. It’s also a genuine contender to the likes of the Nikon D5100 and Canon EOS 600D, not quite matching them in terms of image quality but certainly giving them a run for their money in most other departments,
We start off with normal timelapse and then go into the 3 and 7 bracket tone mapped HDR timelapses.
I wanted to create a sense of colour and insanity that Las Vegas gives you. All from one view point. My balcony. With that restriction can you do it? Well I did it before in my two previous timelapses…
This was harder in a way as there was no single focal point like in the Sydney Harbour piece or the Space Needle piece.
I made a virtue of the HDR tone mapping with the change of pace in the music and also my use of bookends which I love.
There is a very detailed commentary on my website which goes into each shot in detail. It’s worth a listen. http://philipbloom.net/?p=13307

A month ago in march Sony announced a firmware upgrade for the PMW-F3 which enables S-Log gamma mode, Dual Link 4:4:4 RGB video output, 3G-SDI output, four pre-loaded LUTs etc. In simple words after this firmware upgrade the dynamic range of the camera increases to 800%. New York City, NY (April 18, 2011) Next Level Pictures in association with Tstop Cinema teamed up with Abel Cine, Kessler Crane, Wide Open Camera, Angenieux, Carl Zeiss, Cooke, Tyler Mounts, and Miller to unveil the worlds first ever camera test using the Sony F3 with S-Log. S-Log isn’t scheduled for official release until late summer 2011 so we are proud to get our hands on the camera and put it through several latitude tests to include helicopter aerials by Vincent Laforet, vibrant Vegas city lights, and skin tone tests of two models in ten different locations throughout Las Vegas at NAB 2011. The crew of twelve had only ten hours with the camera to produce and film the entire project. The purpose of this test is to compare the latitude and image quality of the new S-Log firmware to native EX codec.
The WVIL (Wireless Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens) camera is a technically feasible concept envisioned by Artefact’s award-winning design team. This concept is the result of a deep exploration of innovation possibilities in the camera industry as well as the manifestation of a strategic vision for the space. The patent-pending WVIL camera system has three core attributes:
Smartphone connectivity: takes the connectivity of today’s smart phones for people to quickly and easily share their pictures with their friends and family
Software platform versatility: by creating an app platform on the camera, the camera becomes extremely versatile tool that can support in-context learning, among other benefits
SLR quality optics: maximizes use of existent lenses by wirelessly connecting them to the camera body.
The WVIL camera is a concept camera envisioned by Artefact’s award-winning design team. It answers the question: “what’s next for camera design?”
The patent-pending WVIL system takes the connectivity and application platform capabilities of today’s smart phones and wirelessly connects them with interchangeable full SLR-quality optics.
I shot a photo roughly every two miles between take-off in San Francisco and landing in Paris CDG to make this airplane time lapse. More of these wacky time lapses at http://beepshow.com
Shot with a 5d2, a time-lapse controller, and a 16mm – 35mm, mixed with some iPhone shots. The music is a modified template “Gain” used with permission from DETUNE ltd. denkitribe http://soundcloud.com/denkitribe/gain – I arranged on the Korg iMS20 iPad App. Edits and pans in After Effects CS5 and iMovie.
The photos during take-off and landing are all computer models and totally rendered because I would never use an electronic device when the FAA prohibits them. I did get lucky and have a whole row to myself to setup the tripod and gear.
Thanks to my neighbors for not minding an SLR click every 2 to 30 seconds for 11 hours, and thanks to the whole Air France flight crew for being insanely friendly and allowing me to shoot. Thanks to @ztaylor for showing me the Korg iMS20 iPad App. Thanks to @jayzombie and the #nerdbird on the way to SXSW this year for helping me come up with the idea. Thanks to @somnabulent for the idea of live scoring. Thanks to you for actually reading this far. You are a champion.
