Now we have specs coming out from a trusted Chinese source, most of the information shared by the source in the past was true, take a look at the rumored specification of the to-be-announced Canon R1 Camera.

- Pure electronic rolling shutter
- 1/1250s flash sync time (<0.8ms microsecond read time), faster than any mechanical rolling shutter
- New 1:3 lossy compression CRAW (compared to lossless compression)
- Unlimited 40fps (1:2 CRAW) / 60fps (1:3 CRAW) continuous shooting, up to 120fps
- Full-featured continuous shooting supports 240fps burst continuous shooting mode and 1s pre-shooting for enhanced dynamic range, which is better than EOS R3 and EOS R5
- It supports 16Bit of two benchmarks
- DGO-RAW photo camera in-camera depth of field stacked RAW
- 6.7K/60p & 4.2K/120p (APS-C) 12bit Cinema RAW Light recording full-frame/APS-C DCI/UHD 4K/120p

As you can see the source has shared a very detailed core specification of the to-be-announced camera, now these specs are of a protoype being tested in the wild of a production line R1 camera we don’t know at this moment.

Canon’s three concept models showcased at CES 2024 show Canon’s dedication to the cinema and content creation industry. The first model starting from the left, 001, features an APS-C VR lens, and the second model, 002, incorporates an APS-C 3D lens and third is 360° / 180° 3D VR Camera
Above you can see Canon R7 is using Canon’s latest prototype lenses to be announced in the near future
– Concept Model 001: APS-C 4D Dual Lens VR Lens (affordable version of RF 5.2mm ?)
– Concept Model 002: APS-C 3D Stereoscopic Lens
The first lens from the left looks very similar to the Canon RF 5.2mm F2.8 Lens without RED RING, The 5.2mm it is an existing VR lens in the RF mount series. But the lens shown above looks like made for an APS-C Mount camera and does not come under L branding, so for sure it will be more affordable compared to the RF 5.2mm F2.
After looking at the images, I feel that Canon is putting more effort into developing APS-C-based lenses. For the first time, I saw an APS-C-based dedicated 3D Cinema Lens. Canon will surely not stop here. In the near future, we will have some dedicated cinema bodies similar to the C70 or Canon R7, which have Super 35mm / APS-C sensors.
– Concept Model 003: 360° / 180° 3D VR Camera
Canon hasn’t said much officially about these lenses, but we expect at least one to be commercialized. The specs for these lenses are unknown as they are kept away from the reach of visitors’ hand and Canon rep was not sharing much details about the future products.

Canon is introducing a full-frame stacked 6.4μm DCG-HDR DPAF with an FWC of 75000e- (ISO125~160), RN of 1.3e-, and a frame rate of 60fps. The dynamic range of the dual 14bit mode is 95dB, which is higher than that of the EOS C500M2 and EOS C300M3, and the tolerance ratio is average. The electronic rolling shutter CIS performs well.

Canon R1 Early Specs
– no global shutter
– no 8k
– less than 45 MP
I am happy to hear that the Canon R1 and Canon R5 Mark II do not come with global shutter sensors after looking at the low-light performance of the Sony A9 III camera (although this news isn’t new to us). But, the big question is why drop MP below 45? If you compare with Sony A1 and Nikon Z9 both have 50-45 MP sensors, the market competition is going around 40+ So Canon should also announce something in a similar resolution otherwise it will look like an update to a Canon R3, not a flagship camera.

We shared the same information back in October 2022, [You can check here] that Canon is planning to announce the Canon R1 camera first, and after that, we will have the Canon R5 Mark II camera. now we got confirmation about the same from other sources too. According to the rumor mill the R1 coming before the R5 mark II, The information seems quite reliable, as it comes from a well-established source. The phrase used by rumor mill is “consider this to be in the bank” which is an idiomatic expression meaning that you can rely on this information as being accurate or certain. So, keep your fingers crossed and wait for a big update from Canon

Canon next next-generation vlogging camera patent surfaced today, the design being shown in the patent is slightly different from the existing Canon V10 camera. Also, the sensor area shown in the figure resembles an APS-C sensor instead of a 1-inch sensor being used in the Canon V10 camera, take a look at the images below
Now you have noticed the difference at the front and top part of the vlogging camera and now it’s time to look at the rear part of the camera and notice the difference in button labels compared to the existing Canon V10 camera.
As you can see we do have differences on the rear side of the camera too, and we have a mode dial on the rear side like a Canon Mirrorless camera instead of the old style of circular center fixed button layout like Canon V10.
