Here is “Rob’s Rumor” …
The Canon XC10 (as you call it, I do not know what it will be called) will likely be the “EOS C100 Mark II”, with a Firmware upgrade and possibly a bit better µP.

The “EOS C100 Mark II” replaces the Canon DIGIC DV III Image Processor with the more sophisticated Canon DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor. The next Camcorder, which you call the “XC10”, (I’ll call it the “EOS C100 Mark III”), might work OK with a DV 5+, but a DIGIC DV 6 would certainly be better and a CPU upgrade would not cost much (money or battery duration).
If you search through the fine print on the Webpage for the “EOS C100 Mark III” you will read:
“Canon DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor
The four 1920 x 1080 HD R Gr Gb B video components from the image sensor are pre-processed and then sent to the DIGIC DV 4 processor for advanced video processing. This includes separate interpolation of the sparsely sampled R and B HD components to form full frame 4K for each. The two green HD components are also interpolated to form a single full frame 4K Green component. These three 4K RGB components are then down-sampled to create a set of YCC 422 HD components that have high MTF, improved edge transitions, low false color moiré, and enhanced overall color reproduction. These components are further processed preparatory to sending them to the AVCHD and MP4 codecs.”.
It has 4K internally but downsamples it to 1080P. If they made the “EOS C100 Mark III” with:
1. a noninterchangeable Lens
2. stripped off the OLED for an LCD
3. substituted a fixed EVF
4. a small Processor upgrade (speedup)
5. stripped off a few desperately wanted Features
then they would have the ‘XC10’.
This new Canon Camcorder will be fairly great but I still think that when Pany releases their anticipated 3MOS 4K Camcorder (essentially a 4K upgrade to the Panasonic HC-X920K, with the usual yearly improvements) we will see who is the winner. Some of us are waiting for 4K 35 mm Global Shutter @ 120+ FPS, if Panasonic does that they will win the Camcorder OTY for sure.
