Canon recently used the Sony made 1 inch sensor in recently announced Canon powershot G1X camera, But Why Canon used a Sony made Sensor in its Pro Compact camera ? The answer camera directly from Masaya Maeda – Managing Director and Chief Executive, Image Communication Products Operations at Canon he said “We select the best sensor, whoever the manufacturer is. That’s our policy.” (That’s Canon new policy, I think)
According to a rumor published at CR.com
“Canon will use Sony’s new 46mp sensor as the 3rd party launch partner, maybe a little after Sony releases it in a camera of their own. Sony and Canon are partnering on many upcoming products – most recently the G7X being a prime example. Canon will use their own CFA / processing and will make a big point of colour accuracy.”
So we are now confirmed that Canon may use Sony made 46 MP sensor in its upcoming DSLR, since even we have received such information that Canon and Sony prototypes are in the wild by having the same high resolution sensor.

A few month ago I told Mister Masaya Maeda that I want to see a Sony sensor in an professional Canon camera if Canon is not able to give us the image quality we demand.
As a result of my open words a prototype camera with a high megapixel Sony sensor exist and is out for testing.
If the product hit the market we will see.
Canon has always danced around what the public actually wants! The magic bullet will be the company that gives us exactly what we are looking for–I think Samsung will deliver first! Sony is close, oh so close! But have decided to give us what we want in more than one camera! Boooo! Good picture quality, High ISO, and 4K video–In one camera! The A7s, close, but 12 Megapixels? Great in low light, but no “in camera” 4K? But at least it has an “in camera” decent 1080p codec!!!
The A7r, great resolution and OK in low light, but no quality video codec in 1080p or 4K!!!!
Oh, and by the way. When are we going to get some decent lenses for the a7 series that competes with the canon lenses and gives us a decently quick auto-focus?
The upcoming cameras look to promise high resolution stills at a high price with non of the support needed for the video artist! And if it is hidden in there somewhere–watch out for the bottom line, it will be very expensive!!
When will a larger sensor be uses with up to 500 Mp ? should be possible to fit in the average DSLR .
