…and video?
ISO goes a little bit higher, but it makes no sense to use the higher ISO’s.
If you want the best image quality go only up to ISO 1200 (1600).
This is my opinion, but I think also, that the 5D Mark III is only good up to ISO 3200.
If you want the best IQ up to ISO 400 buy the new camera. The IQ is far away from the 5D Mark III. I highly recommend to buy the new camera without the stupid filter.
But you need a fast computer and a big storage solution too. The files are very big.
The camera is a big overkill for most hobby photographers that don’t want to printout big scale images.
I reply to a crazy question that came up at CR:
The camera is not faster if you use the camera in 1.3x and 1.6x crop shooting mode.
50 megapixels… seriously? Did any working pros here ask for that? Wouldn’t you have preferred practical improvements like an improved sensor, articulating touch screen, faster fps rate, and updated HD videography features, like those on 2013’s APS-C/crop sensor Canon EOS 70D? These would have been much-appreciated improvements, aimed squarely at real, working pro + semi-pro photographers in 2015? If Canon wants many of you to retire your tried-and-true, workhorse Canon EOS 5D Mark III’s, this isn’t the way to do it. Agree? Disagree?
It likely will be faster (more frames per second) at 1.3 and 1.6 if it’s a matter of processor speed (and not physical limitations). This isn’t that absurd of an idea.
4K Video comes maybe in the 5D Mark IV.
Canon split the 5D series in the S series for landscape, studio and architecture photography and in the upcoming (in 2015) 5D Mark IV for sports and low light photography.
In my eyes the split make sense.
I personally believe, that all over 40 megapixels don’t make sense on an FF sensor. I prefer my 60 and 200 mid format cameras if I need such a resulution.
Re to speed in 1.3x and 1.6x crop shooting mode:
The prototypes speed is limited by software and not by hardware. Maybe the production model don’t have this limitation.
Re to Michael Russel
Sorry, but no pro wants an articulating touch screen, a faster fps rate and updated HD videography in his studio, landscape oder architecture workhorse.
All we need is a good AF system, an ourstanding image quality and two cf card slots.
Every pro has a few cameras. You can’t do all the joby only with one camera.
I want a 1Ds Mark IV for studio, landscape and advertising photography and a 1D X Mark II for the rest.
You really have to question 50 mp sounds overkill plus demands on memory card size noise issues Nd processing power reauired to manipulated images…maybe it’s a stretch to far….still looking at how nikon D810 compares in “real world situations”?!
The Canon 5Dsr is a megapixels monster. 50 to be exact. Files will be humongous. This is not the camera for a novice. The price is NOT right for me, about $3800.00 as of date of this post. Body only. I’d rather have the Canon 5d Mark 3 with the 20+ megapixels. 50 megapixels is way out of my league.
