Sigma Developing Two 800mm Super Zoom Lenses - Sigma Latest News

Sigma is working on super zoom lenses, the latest patent revealed that Sigma is working on a pair of 800 mm lenses. One of the lenses is 400 to 800 mm with a constant f/8 aperture, and the other is 180 to 800 mm with f/5.8 – 8.4 aperture. From the optical construction, it is very clearly visible that they are trying to make more compact super zoom lenses, which are easy to carry and fall in the budget pocket range.

Examples include 800mm zoom lens optical systems such as the 400-800mm F8 and 180-800mm F5.8- 8.4. Although the maximum aperture is large, the overall length is shorter than the 300-600mm F4, making it more portable.

Nikon Z5 Mirrorless at $799 (Refurbished by Nikon USA)

The Nikon Z5 mirrorless camera is available at $799 @B&H Store. The body is refurbished by Nikon USA itself, so it is like brand new and also comes with the warranty by the store.

So the Nikon Z5 camera is actually available at a price of an entry-level mirrorless camera or a compact camera. If you’re able to put a budget lens over it, like we have in Viltrox, the 35mm or the basic kit lens for a full-frame camera, it will help you to capture amazing pictures with a full-frame sensor.

But keep in mind Nikon Z5 is a first-generation Nikon full-frame mirrorless camera, so the autofocus tracking feature is not that great, means you are not able to track fast-moving subjects. Also, the autofocus lock speed is very fast and locks focus in no time.

Olympus OM-5 Mark II Latest Rumors

According to the latest rumors from the rumor mill, the Olympus OM-5 Mark II announcement is expected on June 17, 2025. The camera will feature the same sensor as we have seen in the OM-1 Mark II camera, the 20 MP Stacked M4/3 format sensor. If the rumored information is true, then the entire OM-5 Series will surely experience a Major update in the sensor technology, aligning it closely with OM System’s flagship model.

A nice bump in speed and image quality compared to the original OM-5 if the rumored information is true. A few subtle tweaks to the body design is also coming alongside the new sensor, though nobody’s shown us clear details yet (we are waiting for the leaked images/specs to confirm this). If we talk about the EXACT set of information from the sources of the rumor mill, they have mentioned “stacked sensor” without saying exactly which one, so. What we have concluded is that if a stacked CMOS sensor is used, then for sure Oly will use the 20MP stacked from the flagship model.

The combination of “conventional 20MP sensor + TruePic X” seems possible. However, rather than using the old sensor (which has been in use since 2016), it may be cheaper for the company to standardize on the stacked sensor.

Either way, we’ll likely find out on June 17th,  Stay tuned more updates coming

Sony FX2 to Get OpenGate Recording and more...

Popular YouTuber Armando Ferreira spoke with Jay, Sony’s FX line product manager, about the Sony FX2. When asked why it only offers 1.3× and 1.5× anamorphic desqueeze, Jay said Sony’s adding more options—an upcoming firmware update will even bring 1.5× to the FX3 and FX30, with more to come.

He also talked about open-gate shooting. Jay knows it’s great for anamorphic work and social-media formats, but Sony prioritizes core professional features over simple 6K-to-4K cropping. He didn’t promise a release date but hinted that open-gate could arrive via future firmware updates.

Interviewer: You know, I said this in my video. This is obviously you guys designed this. It’s a cinema camera. Why has Sony only given us 1.3x and 1.5x anamorphic D squeeze? Now, I got to talk. We got to get a little juicy here with the questions because I know people are going to ask, “How come you didn’t talk about open gate?” Yep. I know people are going to ask that. So, what’s up everybody? Um, I’m here with a special guest, Jay, who is the product manager of the Sony FX line. And I want to thank you, Jay, for driving down to the Condor.

Jay: So first of all on the FX 3 and the FX30 we already announced the firmware update road plan and I think in the summertime you will receive firmware update will support 1.5. Nice. I think for now this camera only support 1.3 and 2.0. I think it’s just a firmware thing and down the road I’m not surprised this camera will receive some firware support more like or more anamorphic. Right. Right. Right. Oh, well, if if you guys can, this is more of a request. Yeah. And I think a lot of people agree with me. If there’s a way that you can enter your own value. Yeah. Rather than making it like 1.3, 1.5, 2.0, just you can enter if you want 1.7. Yes. And just put enter your own value. And I think that would probably solve a lot of these. Yes.

Interviewer: Now, I got to talk we got to get a little juicy here with the questions because I know people are going to ask, “How come you didn’t talk about open gate?” Yep. I know people are going to ask that. So I do want to talk about open gate and why first of all why hasn’t Sony implemented open gate on other cameras and is and I don’t even know if you can answer this but if like is there is there a possibility that we’ll see that in future Sony cameras so basically there are two major benefit of the open gate number one is anamorphic application right number two will be the social media application with a two-frame crop right so I think like at the Sony especially on the cinema line we definitely see the value over the open gate in the anamorphic support that’s reason all our senior auto cameras have the open gate right we can use a PR mount accept all the anamorphic lens in the market right right so however on the social media on the on the level and I I know a lot of people doing that right but is maybe there’s a better alternative or there’s other way to do it because for example and how many people really need a 6K recording and crop into 4K. I mean, if we’re being honest, probably not very many. Not very many.

Jay: Is it’s is like I would say like the open gate thing in Sony’s aspect is really fulfill your want or provide what you need, right? And at a Sony and what we more look at is we will provide what you really need for the job and that’s the that’s the number one priority. We need to fulfill the professional users need. Gotcha. Okay. And is that does that mean because this is targeted for cinema and because cinema like you mentioned Alta City Alta like they have open gate is that maybe a possibility that later down the road these cameras will get a firmware up that that’s definitely a possibility right at right now I don’t have too much information right that’s fair and regarding on anamorphic on this level camera and you know there’s a lot of e-mount entry- level anamorphic lens right on the market now right so I think like they will cover some the need of that and also like it really depends on the future development if we can see definitely see more and more uh FX lineup work with sinota definitely I’m not surprised to see we will release something but at right now I don’t have information to confirm
