Both camera features same resolution sensor and ISO range, but as we know that the Fuji film uses X-Trans technology that eliminates the need of a low-pass filter inside the camera and hence you get 100% details even when the image of the camera is viewed at 100% scale.  The Sony A6500 does have same sensor as of Sony A6300 sensor but Sony have integrated a new LSI chip that enables faster processing of the camera image by reducing noise and maintaining high dynamic range even in low light condition.

Auto-focus System of the Sony A6500 camera is much improved compared to the Fuji X-T2. with Sony A6500 camera you get 425 Phase AF points and 169 contrast based AF points, a total of 594 AF points whereas Fuji X-T2 offers a total of 325 AF points in total.

One of the biggest advantage Sony offering to A6500 users (after advance AF system) is 5-axis image stabilization system. The 5 axis IS system compensate camera shake upto 5-stops (tested by CIPA) and even work more effectively when paired with OSS lenses of E-Mount system. The Fuji X-T2 doesn’t have any in-camera based Image Stabilization system.

The Mechanical shutter speed of Sony A6500 remains limited to 1/4000 whereas the Fuji X-T2 offers mechanical shutter speed of 1/8000 sec. Electronic shutter speed of both the camera is same 1/32000.

Both camera features 4K video recording at 30fps. Sony does a 6K readout to make a 4K video (1.54x oversampling) will give you enormous amount of details in videos. Wheras Fuji X-T2 uses 5K resolution frames to create 4K video that also brings out max details from the sensor. But the biggest problem of Fuji X-T2 camera that it can recorded internally for up to about 10 minutes, If you want to record video of more than 10min video is possible though with the addition of the optional Vertical Power Booster Grip users will be able to record for up to 30 minutes.

Sony A6500 offers touch screen display unit that allow users to touch and shoot, the other biggest advantage you can use the display of the A6500 camera as touch pad for selecting AF points while capturing images via viewfinder.

Noticeable Price difference is also there, Fuji X-T2 cost you $1599 whereas the Sony A6500 will cost you $1399 (Body Only).

Conclusion: We highly recommend you to get Sony A3500 camera over Fuji X-T2 camera. The Sony A6500 features Advance AF system, Built-in 5-axis image stabilization system and big buffer that will grab 301 frames of JPEG in a single burst. The touch display of the camera will also help you to grab hassle free frames.

Fuji’s latest tech is last year to everyone else. The only reason Fuji still sell cameras is because they have a fan club full of people who don’t require the latest tech for their type of photography. Its more important for them to look hip in the street then to make good pics.

Check! The latest tech dosn’t mean that you will become better pictures.

  • No contest. One is the shape of a Leica, the other the shape of a Nikon F.

fuji operates like real camera. Once hold it in hands, you don’t want to put it down.

Hi thanks for the comparisons, but the pics should be even approximately in the same scale (Fuji X-T2).

Have shot multiple Fuji’s and Sony’s over the years and still have a couple of Sony’s laying around. The Fuji’s are shooter’s cameras. They simply handle and operate well. Customer Service is excellent, quick and you can actually talk to whoever is working on your camera. The files are to die for, be they jpeg or raw. Auto white balance actually works. Color balance is different and I prefer it to the overly warm Sony files.

All the specs above provide less than a 1% difference in the end. It’s still what’s behind the camera that determines success. However, for low light prime shooters, ibis is very desirable.

Fuji’s lens line is far beyond Sony’s in terms of quality and a sensible line. Try to package a lens line with Sony versus Fuji. After eliminating 3/4’s of Sony’s line due to overlap, quality or speed, I ended up with 2 Sony APSC primes to replace my 6 Fuji primes. Still a non-starter for serious shooters. For those satisfied with Sony’s primes, you don’t need a 6500.

You forgot about the amazing x-t2 viewfinder which is bigger than the a6500.

  • Sony for someone needing a reliable camera is a joke. When they go wrong (and they will) service terrible. As for this test, if the grip was on the xt-2 it blow the 6500 out of the water. Also 4k, it never gets hot like my 6500. Lens choice is great for the Fuji, costing a lot less than the Sony glass. BUT. people talk to much about gear and think if the have the latest and greatest kit they will become good photographers over night. I think the greatest form of art now is advertising as they have people arguing over which gear is the best and created Fan Boys. Why not just use what you have. Look at a NatGeo book from the 80’s and see how amazing the images were without all the latest tech. Your bing brain washed.
