It really is like something out of sci-fi, Canon is working on a external image stabilization unit that will enable Image stabilization in your DSLR, the unit will be placed in between your Camera lens and DSLR, just like as you are using the Canon teleconverters for DSLRs (see Canon EF 1.4X III Telephoto Extender). The best part is your focal length and F value remains same even after adding the external IS mechanism in your DSLR.

Nothing amazing or sci-fi about that. Pentax builds that into their cameras – even entry level ones. So you have it available for every lens you use – even the old m42 lenses. My K3 does an amazing job with my 30 year old Tamron 200-500 with with a 2x tc. I’ve (surprisingly) been able to even get a passable handheld photo of the moon with that lens at 1000mm.
Regardless, it’s a good idea for Canon to bridge the gap. I’m curious if it would affect focus to infinity. Perhaps they can offer it built-in as well some day.
Pentax as not a fullframe camera or GPS, like Canon
