Sony ZV-1F vs Sony ZV1 – Best Compact Vlogging Camera of 2022 – The Sony ZV1F camera is $250 cheaper than the Sony ZV1. The biggest noticeable difference is the lens of the camera. With the Sony ZV1F, we are getting a 20mm prime lens and with the Sony ZV1, we are getting a 24-70 eg zoom lens. So, of course, you will lose some flexibility u have in the Sony ZV1 camera, but at the same time, you will gain a little bit more wide-angle coverage which is highly important when you are creating content with the camera, for which it is made. For the first time in a Sony vlogging camera, we are about to witness a cold shoe, it can only act as an external mic holder but it doesn’t have any active contacts inside it.

Image quality & Video is expected to remain the same as the Sony ZV1 camera since both of the have the same sensor, But the major disappointment is despite having the same type of sensor. We do not have any Hybrid AF support in the newly announced camera. The New Sony ZV-1F camera uses CDAF [Contrast detection AF system] which is slow and sluggish.
We also miss the built-in ND filter of the Sony ZV1 camera, now u have to buy a 40mm thread ND variable filter for your camera.
Yes, we do have all the fancy Auto Focus modes we have witnessed in the ZV1. But as usual, the hardware is missing (no active Hybrid AF points). Despite all the -ve things, we do have some good news in the AF department. At least the Eye AF mode of the camera works well and tracks AF all the time.

3. Missing Mechanical Image Stabilization
Sony ZV1-F camera doesn’t have any kind of Mechanical IS, which includes Sensor shift IS and OSS [Lens based]. Not only that Gyro IS is also missing, but the good news is we are getting at least EIS [electronic Image stabilization] from the camera. And when you implement it you have to face a 1.25X crop which turns your 20mm lens into a 25mm lens. That’s the only major positive thing I like inside ZV1-F is even after implementing EIS feature the widest coverage is similar to the ZV1 24mm focal length.

5. Video Resolution and Time Limit
As you can see the Sony ZV1-F camera is limited to 29 Min recording timeline and the frame rates are also limited, it a clear indication that Sony not only wants to increase its consumer base they also want to save the ZV1 sales, by cutting down some basic features from the camera.

6. Sony ZV-1F vs Sony ZV1 Verdict
Sony ZV1 is better, undoubtedly. We have no competition here. And if you will say, Buddy, I don’t have that budget of ZV1, so what I can do now?
Hey, You can do one good thing, you can buy the Panasonic G7 Camera at the same price range with an M4/3 format sensor. Although the G7 uses the DFD AF system which is slow, believe me, the specs of the G7 are far superior to those of the ZV1-F

Sony today announced a new ZV1 camera in white color. Sony ZV1 camera is already a very popular camera among vloggers worldwide. And finally, they have announced a new white addition to their camera.
The only issue that bloggers are facing right now is the 24mm lens (ZV1 is missing a wide lens and users have to face a limited space to work with while vlogging with hands) and we do hope and expect that in the next series of ZV1 camera they will going to fix this issue by adding a wide-angle lens in their compact vlogging camera.

Well, let’s compare the Sony ZV1 camera with the Panasonic G100 camera. Let’s see which one is a more suitable camera for Vlogging purposes. Let’s jump on the spec table of both to see the Major difference between the two.
1. Interchangeable lens vs Compact – Which one is better
Of course, Sony has given as a limited focal length of 27-70mm, whereas with Panasonic G100 we are getting 12-32mm lens which is more user friendly and covers more area/frame. So, Panasonic does have an added advantage of interchangeable lenses.

2. Panasonic G100 Camera features Larger Sensor
Panasonic G100 Camera features a larger M4/3 format sensor compared to Sony ZV1 Camera. The Sony ZV1 uses a 1-inch sensor. Both sensors feature the same resolution, but due to the larger sensor area, we may notice some significant advantage in Panasonic G100 Camera while shooting still images.
3. Missing Hybrid Autofocus
Panasonic G100 uses the same DFD AF system used by the Panasonic line-up of cameras. We know the DFD AF system is not as fast as we have a Hybrid AF system in the Sony ZV1 camera. And, one of the biggest disadvantages of DFD is it needs a good amount of light to acquire AF, otherwise, it will take a bot more time to acquire AF. So, if you are shooting vlogs in low-light environment
4. Customized AF Modes inside Sony ZV1 Camera for Vloggers
In Sony ZV1 camera we are getting a custom-tailored AF mo0des inside the camera. When you activated the product showcase mode the camera quickly acquires AF at products without any lag or hunting. So, the AF system of Sony ZV1 camera is more user friendly, accurate and fast.

5. Best Video Camera – Sony ZV1 vs Panasonic G100
Sony ZV1 Camera – With the Sony ZV1 camera we are also getting the HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) support, along with the BT.2020 color space, for recording within a wide color gamut and, in addition to S-Log2, S-Log3 is also available for producing an effective 14-stop dynamic range with increased grading control in the shadow to mid-tone regions of the image.
Panasonic G100 – V-Log L has been pre-installed and is used to capture a flat, neutral gamma curve well-suited for grading in conjunction with a LUT for greater control over color.

some additional features of the Sony ZV1 Camera made specifically for Vloggers.
6. Background Defocus
Background Defocus lets you immediately switch to the maximum aperture setting (f/1.8-2.8), using a custom button function, for isolating your subject using shallow depth of field and bokeh. Built-in ND filter benefits using this mode in bright lighting conditions by controlling overexposure.
7. Face-Priority AE
Face-Priority AE detects the subject’s face and adjusts the exposure to ensure the face is depicted in an ideal brightness, even if walking from a bright place into the shade. The AE technology also suppresses abrupt changes in exposure if the subject quickly turns away from the frame to eliminate unexpected blown-out or extremely dark shots.
8. Best Vlogging Camera between Sony ZV1 and Panasonic G100?
Fast Auto Focus is highly Important for Video – Sony ZV1 camera does super-fast AF while vlogging and also features custom-tailored AF modes for Vloggers. Panasonic DFD isn’t that fast and viewers may get annoyed to see your camera most of the time struggling for AF.
Both Cameras Uses OIS – Both camera image stabilization depends upon OIS [lens based optical image stabilization ]. And if you are a travel vlogger, I will recommend you to get a gimble for your camera if you buy any of these cameras. Panasonic makes worlds best on sensor IBIS system. But, to make the camera more compact they left the IBIS unit.
Panasonic G100 more Coverage but – Pasnonic G100 camera does cover more range (starting from 12mm to 32mm) which is standard vlogging range. Whereas Sony does have tight frame with a 24-70mm compact lens. But, by just having a better coverage area we are not able to recommend you the Panasonic G100 camera due to its slow AF speed and missing IBIS unit inside.
Sony ZV1 is a clear Winner – Sony ZV1 is designed for vloggers and does have many features inside which are specifically researched and developed by keeping vloggers requirements in mind.

Sony ZV1 Press Release
Sony Electronics Introduces the Digital Camera ZV-1, A Newly Designed Camera for Video Content Creators
New Video-Forward Design and Compact Body Packed with Advanced Imaging Technology and Easy-to-Use Functionality
SAN DIEGO – May 26, 2020 –Sony Electronics Inc. today has announced the new pocket-sized digital camera ZV-1 (hereafter referred as “ZV-1”) – a lightweight, compact “all-in-one” style solution. Designed from the ground up for content creators and vloggers, the ZV-1 combines easy-to-use features with uncompromising imaging technology, making this the perfect tool for any content creator at all skill levels.
“Sony’s new ZV-1 was purpose-built to meet the needs and demands of today’s video creators,” said Neal Manowitz, deputy president of Imaging Product and Solutions Americas at Sony Electronics. “We are always listening to our customers, and this camera is the result of direct feedback from our extended community. Featuring an innovative design plus many new technologies, settings and modes, it will allow creators to make content in ways they have never been able to before.”
The ZV-1 features a 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS® CMOS image sensor with DRAM chip and 24-70mm[i] F1.8-2.8 ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T* large-aperture lens creating beautiful background bokeh (background blur), allowing the subject to stand out from the background. The camera locks on to and tracks subjects with high accuracy and speed using Sony’s leading-edge autofocus system. The ZV-1 also includes the latest-generation BIONZ X™ image processor with front-end LSI delivering high resolution as well as low noise for superior image quality. It also combines this exceptional imaging technology with high-quality and versatile audio options. The ZV-1 is Sony’s first compact camera with a side-opening Vari-angle LCD screen, making it easier to compose your shots in selfie mode while connecting external audio accessories. To meet any video need, the ZV-1 contains advanced video features including 4K movie recording[ii] and in-body image stabilization.
Meeting the Needs of Today’s Content Creators
Quickly Switch Between two modes of Background Bokeh
The ZV-1 offers a simple solution to easily switch between two levels of background bokeh while recording. Using the new Background Defocus function, users can rapidly adjust the optical aperture between more and less background defocusing blur without losing focus on the subject. Located on top of the camera, this Bokeh button is easily accessible and makes selfie shooting operation a breeze.
Focus on the Subject You Want
The ZV-1 makes it easier than ever to shoot product reviews and similar video content. Gone are the days of placing a hand behind an object to prompt the camera to bring it into focus thanks to a new Product Showcase Setting, which allows for quick and smooth focus transitions between the subject’s face and the object placed in front of the lens.
Building on the leading-edge technology developed for α™ (Alpha brand) and RX series cameras, this new compact camera includes advanced autofocus (AF) allowing it to lock on and track subjects with high accuracy and speed while recording. For maintaining focus on the intended subject or subjects in busy environments, Real-time Eye AF[iii] and Real-time Tracking AF for video allows the ZV-1 to seamlessly switch focus between multiple subjects while controlling the AF speed and tracking sensitivity.
Prioritize Your Face
Extreme changes in lighting, like walking outside on a sunny day and suddenly moving from a bright location into shade, are no problem for the ZV-1 thanks to the new Face Priority autoexposure (AE) function. It detects and prioritizes the subject’s face and adjusts the exposure to ensure the face is depicted at an ideal brightness in any environment. This AE technology also suppresses an abrupt change in exposure if the subject quickly turns away from the frame to eliminate unexpected blown-out or extremely dark shots. In addition, the camera features a new advanced color science that has been re-engineered to optimize skin tones for any subject in both still and video modes.
Crystal Clear Audio
High quality content requires clear, excellent audio quality, and the ZV-1 is well-equipped to produce just that with reliable and versatile audio options. The ZV-1’s onboard mic features Sony’s latest Directional 3-capsule Mic which was designed for forward-directional audio capture, allowing for clear capture of the subject’s voice while minimizing background noise, especially when operating in selfie mode. For added flexibility, the ZV-1 also features an industry standard mic jack (3.5mm) and Multi Interface Shoe™ (MI shoe) making it easy to connect a wide range of external microphones. The ZV-1 is also supplied with a wind screen[iv] accessory that fits on the MI shoe to minimize wind interference.
Design and Functionality Optimized for Vlogging
The ZV-1 was designed with content creators and vloggers in mind. This compact, lightweight (approx. 294g / 105.5mm x 60.0mm x 43.5mm) camera is the first Sony compact camera with a flip-out, tiltable LCD Screen, allowing creators to simplify their setup by utilizing the MI shoe for optional external mics without the need of an additional mounting bracket.
Comfortably operate the ZV-1 with one hand thanks to the easy-to-hold comfortable grip and a large movie REC button located on the top of the camera for quick access to video recording, as well as a recording lamp on the front of the camera that indicates if the camera is actively recording.
The ZV-1 also includes advances in image stabilization, ensuring steady video even when shooting hand-held while walking. When recording in HD (Active mode), optical and electronic stabilization methods are combined to reduce shaking up to 11 times[v] that of standard SteadyShot™ image stabilization. When shooting 4K video using Optical SteadyShot (Active mode), there is improvement in stabilization effect of up to 8 times[vi] that of standard SteadyShot. The ZV-1 is also compatible with the GP-VPT2BT Shooting Grip with Wireless Remote Commander, offering additional stability and comfort combined with cable-free Bluetooth® connectivity.
Class-Leading AV Features
Despite the small form factor there are a multitude of pro-level movie making capabilities, including:
4K movie recording with full pixel readout and no pixel binning in high bit rate XAVC S™ codec. [vii]
- Industry standard 3.5mm microphone input
- Hybrid Log-Gamma (HDR) [viii] / S-Gamut3.Cine / S-Log3, S-Gamut3 / S-Log3
- Interval Shooting[ix] for stunning time-lapse videos[x]
- Super Slow Motion[xi] recording at up to 960fps[xii]
