After Fuji X10 white orb problem now its time for Canon G1 X “Glow Dots”, During the normal course of testing process imaging resource identified the light leakage problem under certain conditions, the “Glow dots” or “Bright Spots” occur when you combine high sensitivity with high shutter speeds.
Canon response to Light Leak Problem
We sent our images to Canon and they came back with a response, calling the phenomenon “Glow Dots,” though what we see does not resemble dots at all. Canon further says, “Due to the limited circumstances under which the PowerShot G1X ‘Glow Dots’ phenomenon can occur, Canon does not plan to change the camera’s specifications or offer repair service for this issue.”
At high ISO test done by dpinterface.com Canon G1 X showing a significantly less amount of noise than the Canon EOS 7D DSLR, Canon G1X comes with a 2.5 inch sensor and canon 7D sensor is approx 27% larger than the Canon G1 X, both cameras are almost even in terms of pixel density.
Lens used on the Canon 7D was the Canon EF 24-70 mm f2.8L USM, Images displayed below are JPEGs out of the camera, not RAW.
As promised by Fujifilm few days ago, Fuji issued a statement about the white disc problem of fuji x10 and X-S1, according to the statement Fujifilm is developing new sensor to resolve the problem, that can also affect the X-S1 Super Zoom camera (XS-1 uses same X10 sensor), It encourages X10 and X-S1 owners experiencing ‘the white disc phenomenon’ to contact their local Fujifilm service center.
Press Release
The FUJIFILM X10 and X-S1 digital cameras were made available by Fujifilm late last year, and have been generally very well received by customers, who admire the excellent picture quality, manual zoom lens and viewfinder.
However, we did receive some inquiries concerning the so-called ‘white disc’ or ‘blooming’ occurrence, where exceptional highlights in the picture can appear as strongly delineated rounded shapes. This ‘blooming’ effect can occur with all digital cameras which use CMOS sensors, to varying degrees. It can also occur with the X10 and X-S1 when shooting in certain conditions, e.g. cars with front lights shining in dark night scene. The X10 and X-S1 are fitted with a very advanced sensor, which gives excellent picture quality and low noise, but which does give a different ‘blooming’ effect from other cameras.
Fujifilm has a long-standing history of delivering top quality products to the market. In response to our customers’ comments, we have worked hard to find an improvement to reduce the ‘blooming’ effect of the X10 and X-S1. Below are the actions we have undertaken.
In February, we announced a firmware upgrade for the X10 (version 1.03) which does reduce the white disc occurrence specifically in EXR mode. It works by identifying scenes that are likely to get ‘white disc’ blooming. When the camera recognizes such a scene, it automatically increases the ISO and optimizes DR (dynamic range). As the ISO increases, the white discs are less evident. * New firmware for the X-S1 will be available from March 21, 2012.
We will also develop a modified sensor, which will more universally resolve the ‘white disc’ blooming effect in all modes. We are working hard to make this new sensor available from late May 2012.
We encourage any customer with an X10 and X-S1 who has experienced the ‘white disc’ phenomenon to call their local authorized Fujifilm service centre.
Fujifilm is committed to delivering the highest quality products to the photographic community, and is happy to provide this improvement.

theverge Wrap-Up of Canon G1 X
if you already own the serious equipment and just want a camera you can toss into a purse or backpack without sacrificing a lot of quality, the G1 X should suit you pretty well………
There’s a lot to get used to about the G1 X, especially with the viewfinder, but I can definitely see this camera being a travel-friendly second camera for a 5D or D4 owner. It’s also compatible with most of Canon’s EOS accessories, so Canon DSLR owners will be able to use speedlite flash attachments and the like with the G1 X. view more at theverge
