What’s Next from Canon – Canon R6 III, R7 II or R10 II

What’s Next from Canon – Canon R6 Mark III, R7 Mark II or R10 Mark II So, first let’s talk about the key points, then we will dive into the details.

  • Earlier, it was expected that the Canon R7 Mark II camera would arrive in late August 202,5, targeting sports and wildlife photographers with its advanced set of features. We had a lot of rumours related to that in the past, even the leaked specifications, but for now, the rumour mills are silent on this.
  • The second most popular camera, also expected to arrive in the late months of 2025, is the Canon R6 Mark III. As we were the first to tell you, according to the real testers of the prototype, the camera does have a 30+ megapixel sensor inside it.
  • The next model is potentially the Canon R10 Mark II camera or the Canon R8 V. While the Canon R8 V is expected to arrive in the first or second quarter of 2026, the Canon R10 Mark II is due for an update. However, as usual, Canon will select only one APS-C camera for its announcement, to avoid cannibalising its sales.

Canon Registered Model and Timelines

  • DS126922: EOS R5 II (Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 & Bluetooth)
  • DS126928: EOS R1 (Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 & Bluetooth)
  • DS126941: EOS R50 V (Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 & Bluetooth)
  • DS126904: PowerShot V1 (Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 & Bluetooth)
  • ID174: Unknown (Dual-band Wi-Fi 5)
  • ID179: Unknown (Dual-band Wi-Fi 5)
  • ID0814: Unknown (Dual-band Wi-Fi 5)
  • DS126916: Unknown (Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 & Bluetooth)
  • DS126936: Unknown (Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 & Bluetooth)

Out of all the registered cameras in 2025, we have 3 cinema cameras and 2 mirrorless models from Canon. We generally keep track of Canon-registered cameras every month, and if you look at our previous two posts of May (May 2025 Update) and July (July 2025 Update), you will find that Canon registered several cameras in those two months. . Both of them have Dual WiFi 5 (we are talking about DS models / Mirrorless only) – Wireless Transfer Unit, generally higher-end cameras like Canon R5 II and Canon R1 use Dual-band Wifi 6, so these two registered models are not High-End full-frame cameras., So we are ruling out the earlier rumored cameras like Canon R1 / R1x variants, OR the Canon R3 Mark II. No, high-end Mirrorless in the announcement pipeline as of now.

As usual, camera makers like Canon typically take at least 3 to 4 months to announce their products once they’re registered in wireless certification agencies. And if they go through the same rule they always follow, we will have at least two Mirrorless announcements from Canon between August and November 2025

Now let’s talk about the Cameras we are expecting next from Canon

Canon Next Mirrorless Announcements

Canon R7 Mark II – The camera that has been registered in May 2025 is expected to be the Canon R7 Mark II with a model code DS126922. The camera is overdue for an update, and we are expecting its arrival from August to November 2025. That’s the initial hint that we have received from the industry experts. The camera is specifically designed for sports and wildlife photography, for those who are looking for a high-performance camera without putting cost to full-frame options.

Canon R6 Mark III – Canon R6 Mark III is another model that we are expecting in 2025. We have already published its rumoured specifications, and we are confirmed that it is coming with a 30+ megapixel sensor. The camera is coming with a significant update for photographers as well as videographers, and its early test phase has been completed. Now we are waiting for its official announcement. As usual, August and September are usually one of the favourite months in the year for Canon for its product announcements, so let’s hope that this August and September, we will witness the arrival of the Canon R6 Mark III camera.

Additional Cameras

Canon R10 Mark II – The Canon R10 Mark II camera was announced in May 2022 and is now due for a refresh. It needs energy and an update, so we are channelising information related to this camera too. As soon as we get any update on it, we will publish it soon.

Canon R8V Camera – The Canon R8V camera is rumoured to arrive in the first half of 2026. If Canon announces it early, it will be a surprise announcement for us.

Canon Upcoming Cameras 2025 – 2026

Canon R6 Mark III Price

The Canon R6 Mark III camera price has now been announced, and all of us are waiting for its official announcement. But we can make a highly accurate estimate based on the pricing of previous models of the Canon R6 series camera, comparable offerings, and higher-end model prices right now.

Update: Canon R6 III is now official, and its pricing is

R6 Mark III image

Pricing between the Canon R5 and the Canon R6 II

  • Canon R6 Mark II was announced in November 2022 with a price tag of $2499 for the body only, confirmed by Canon USA. And the Canon R5 right now is being sold at $3199. Although the Canon R5 Mark II camera arrived at a much higher price range, that doesn’t matter here.
  • The Canon R6 Mark III camera is coming with an approximately 30MP sensor, and its a big upgrade in the core specifications of the camera. But if Canon keeps its price above $3100 or even at $3000, then people will prefer getting a Canon R5 body with a much higher resolution sensor and a more premium body.

Canon Price increase pattern between models

If you look at the recent price increase pattern of Canon, then from the model Canon R5 to the Canon R5 Mark II, we have seen a $400 price increase between the models, and the R5 Mark II camera carries a stacked CMOS sensor and a massive update over its predecessor.

And if we Look at the competition right now: the Nikon Z6 Mark III camera arrived at a $2497 price tag, which features a 24.5 megapixel partially stacked CMOS sensor and 6K 60 FPS N-RAW recording capability. Similarly, the price of the Sony A7V is expected to be around $ 2,799-$ 3,000.

Canon R6 Mark II Price

Considering all these factors, we can confidently conclude that if the Canon R6 Mark III camera arrives with a 30- to 32-MP full-frame BSI sensor and professional-grade features, the expected price of the camera is $ 2,799 to $ 2,899.

That’s what we are expecting: a $400 price increase, which we have seen from the Canon R5 to the Canon R5 Mark II, keeping the market price of the Canon R6 Mark III camera competitive according to the competitors.

Canon R6 Mark III Actual Specification by Jan Wegener

According to Jan Wegener (and he is 95-98% correct all the time), the Canon R6 Mark III camera will arrive in Q4 of 2025. The main surprise is the Megapixel bump in resolution, as per Jan’s expectation, the camera may use a 30.3MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor. Let’s have a look at the details of what Jan tells us about the upcoming Canon R6 Mark III camera

The leaked specification isn’t much different from what we have said with you in the past Let’s have a look at the specs

Canon R6 Mark III specifications [Updated]

  • Sensor: Brand new
  •  [approx]30.3MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor
  • Readout Speed: Non-Stacked Sensor
  • Processor: Dual DIGIC X and
  • DIGIC Accelerator for enhanced performance
  • Subject Tracking with Deep Learning
  • Rear LCD: New “flippy” mechanism, likely a tilt-and-flip design similar to Sony and Panasonic models

  • 3.2″ Vari-Angle Touchscreen LCD
  • CFexpress & SD UHS-II Memory Card Slots
  • Announcement: Late Aug 2025 – Early Sep, shipping from December 2025

These specs position the EOS R6 Mark III as a powerhouse for hybrid shooters

Here is what Jan Wegener said about the Canon R6 Mark III in his Latest Video

Canon R6 Mark III Release Date and Megapixel Upgrade Rumors

… And interestingly, it seems like that the R6 Mark III is not imminent. There will be an announcement probably in Q4 of 2025. And what I found the most interesting is that it said that the camera would get a megapixel bump. So it wouldn’t be 24 megapixel anymore and something more than that, which I thought was very interesting because that could instantly make the R6 Mark III also an R5 Mark II killer, especially if it’s a cheaper camera with maybe somewhere in the 30 megapixel range.

Why 30 Megapixels Could Be the Sweet Spot for Canon R6 Mark III

Cuz I think for many people that 30 megapixel range still feels like the sweet spot. Would you agree?

Canon R6 Mark III Sensor Technology: Stacked vs Non-Stacked Sensor Debate

But that got me thinking if Canon really gives a megapixel bump to the R6 Mark III and to be able to differentiate it from the R5 Mark II, does Canon then maybe not give the R6 Mark III a stacked sensor and rather a fast readout non-stacked sensor that probably would have a very high image quality even at those high ISO levels.

Pros and Cons of Stacked and Non-Stacked Sensors on Canon R6 Mark III

I can definitely see that being the case and I think I wouldn’t even be totally opposed to it. The stacked sensors are nice, but they also come with some drawbacks, especially when it comes to the image quality. Now, for video, it would be nice to have no rolling shutter at all or very little rolling shutter. But if it’s true that the camera gets more megapixels, I think it not being a stacked sensor would be a lot more likely.

Would you actually be happy with an R6 Mark III that has more megapixels but a non-stacked sensor?

Canon R6 Mark III Price Expectations

I think for many people this could actually make it a super interesting camera, especially if it still comes in below that $3,000 price point because it would suddenly give us such a great all-round camera that would also be fantastic for nature photography and would have a little bit more scope for cropping.

When Will Canon R6 Mark III Be Announced? Rumored Q4 2025 Launch

An announcement in Q4 2025 would be exactly 3 years after the R6 Mark II was announced and I think that would make a lot of sense even if the camera only starts shipping maybe in 2026.

Canon R6 Mark III Leaks - Coming with Massive Display?

According to the latest rumors from trusted rumor mills, the R6 Mark III camera will have a display screen design similar to the Sony A7R5 camera. That means it will feature a tilting and a very versatile display screen altogether.

The second improvement that we will witness is the use of an OLED monitor on the back display portion of the camera. Currently, Canon uses an LCD-type display, whereas other brands like Nikon, Sony, and Fuji use OLED. So for now, let’s hope and expect a massive improvement in the display part of the camera.

Other specifications of the R6 Mark 3 camera are said to remain the same as we have discussed earlier. That includes the 24MP stacked sensor, which is directly coming from the Canon R3 camera, 30 FPS of continuous shooting speed with electronics, and, of course, all the rest of the core specifications you can see below.

Canon R6 Mark III Specifications

  • 24-megapixel LC1720 sensor.
  • DIGIC Accelerator accelerated processor, 8.5-stop collaborative image stabilization.
  • Same focus system as EOS R5 II.
  • Highly reliable 14-bit 30fps RAW electronic shutter continuous shooting, reading speed 1/180s.
  • In-camera neural network noise reduction and high-resolution magnification.
  • Supports XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S recording of C4K/120p (S35) and 6K oversampled C4K.
  • Supports 6K30p and 4K60p (S35) Cinema RAW Light recording.
  • OLED monitor on the rear display with a versatile tilting and rotating design, similar to the Sony A7R5.

And one important thing to note down is that you will not be getting an eye-tracking electronic viewfinder in this segment. That is the R6 Mark 3. Yes, you will have an improved electronic viewfinder compared to the predecessor, but again, no eye-tracking is coming in this particular segment.
