Sony FX3a vs. Sony FX3 – which one is the best camera for you?

Sony FX3A or Sony FX3 – which one is the best camera for you? It’s better for you, we know that Sony has done a kind of a minor refresh in the ultra-popular Sony FX3 — a compact full-frame cinema camera for solo cinematographers. Now, in this article, we are just exploring this update.

Sony FX3A – what changed inside this camera?

1.Enhanced LCD resolution:
The new FX3A features a 2.35 million-dot, 3-inch LCD screen on the rear side of the camera, which is a kind of good jump from the 1.4 million-dot display. It is now more sharp and has better brightness for outdoor use.

2.Removed features:
Sony dropped out the NFC functionality as well as the infrared remote control feature from the new generation of FX3A camera. That means now we have no quick wireless pairing via NFC, although we do have the usual method of connectivity via Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, which may frustrate some users with legacy workflows.

Take a look at the quick comparison table between the two that shows the major differences between the FX3A and the FX3.

Why did Sony release the FX3A?
See, there was no option — the supplier’s stock of the existing LCD display screen has been discontinued by the display makers. So, they had to introduce the new display. But that’s really surprising — why did they drop the NFC and the infrared controller from the camera? Maybe to cut down the production line cost — who knows!

Should you buy the FX3A camera?
If you already own a Sony FX3 camera, then there is no need to invest in the FX3A. It doesn’t arrive with any significant upgrade over the FX3, and even the price is exactly the same. And believe me, more or less, you are losing the infrared and NFC connectivity, so better to stick with your FX3 camera.

For new buyers, let’s discuss — should you buy FX3?
The Sony FX3 is actually phasing out, since Sony does not have the old display screen anymore. And the new bodies also lose the infrared as well as the NFC port.

But you have to make a very smart choice, since there is a fact we should consider — the new model gets regular firmware support from the camera maker, and generally they care a bit less about the older ones. So, if you actually have a requirement of having a remote control or NFC connectivity, then you should go with the older model as soon as possible. Otherwise, getting the FX3A would be the best decision.

Why is no one talking about these important details? Only TheNewCamera.com has shared these exclusive facts. Even SonyAlphaRumors has just repeated multiple times that the camera will feature a new display—nothing more. Are they directly aligned with Sony’s marketing strategy?
