Sony ZV-1F vs Sony ZV1 – The Sony ZV1F camera is $250 cheaper than the Sony ZV1. The biggest noticeable difference is the lens of the and the HYBRID AF SENSOR inside the ZV1 camera. With the Sony ZV1F, we are getting a 20mm prime lens and with the Sony ZV1, we are getting a 24-70 eg zoom lens. So, of course, you will lose some flexibility u have in the Sony ZV1 camera, but at the same time, you will gain a little bit more wide-angle coverage which is highly important when you are creating content with the camera, for which it is made. For the first time in a Sony vlogging camera, we are about to witness a cold shoe, it can only act as an external mic holder but it doesn’t have any active contacts inside it.

we have two different variations of Sony’s 1-inch sensor being used in Sony ZV-series compact cameras, the first one of the CDAF sensor being used in the ZV-1F camera, and the other variation of Sony compact the ZV-1, which uses HYBRID CMOS AF sensor, comes at a higher price.
Recommendation
So, the autofocusing performance of the camera upscales the video recording performance to the next level, so if ur able to upscale your budget and get the Sony ZV1 camera you must get that.
Yes, we do have all the fancy Auto Focus modes we have witnessed in the ZV1. But as usual, the hardware is missing (no active Hybrid AF points). Despite all the -ve things, we do have some good news in the AF department. At least the Eye AF mode of the camera works well and tracks AF all the time.

3. Missing Mechanical Image Stabilization
Sony ZV1-F camera doesn’t have any kind of Mechanical IS, which includes Sensor shift IS and OSS [Lens based]. Not only that Gyro IS is also missing, but the good news is we are getting at least EIS [electronic Image stabilization] from the camera. And when you implement it you have to face a 1.25X crop which turns your 20mm lens into a 25mm lens. That’s the only major positive thing I like inside ZV1-F is even after implementing EIS feature the widest coverage is similar to the ZV1 24mm focal length.

As you can see the Sony ZV1-F camera is limited to 29 Min recording timeline and the frame rates are also limited, it a clear indication that Sony not only wants to increase its consumer base they also want to save the ZV1 sales, by cutting down some basic features from the camera.

“We have designed the pocket-size vlog camera ZV-1F with creators front of mind,” said Yasufumi Machitani, Director, Digital Imaging Division, Sony Electronics Asia Pacific. “As audiences drive the demand for high-quality content, creators need an all-in-one camera solution that delivers superior quality with creative options whilst being easy to use and designed for wireless content sharing. We are also proud to have incorporated eco-friendly features in the ZV-1F as sustainability remains a key focus for Sony.”
Boost Your Creative Power The ZV-1F has been designed to let the subject shine in any scene with an ultra-wide 20mm prime lens for optimum selfie shooting and wide field of view to capture more background. The vlog camera also offers background bokeh in both stills and video to further highlight the subject or create a softer look.
Skin tone is optimised for both video and stills with a ‘Soft Skin Effect’ option that smooths and reduces wrinkles when shooting video and creates a natural skin tone effect for stills. Face Priority AE automatically adjusts the brightness when shooting so that faces can be captured with optimal brightness, even in situations where the light changes. The ZV-1F also boasts high precision focusing and Eye AF for both humans and animals which allows the autofocus to fix tenaciously on the face and eyes without getting diverted by other subjects. Users can easily change subjects via the camera’s touchscreen.
What’s more, when shooting video, image stabilisation is available in Active Mode[5] (electronic) to ensure footage is steady and smooth when walking.
The newly available Creative Look function gives users several preset options to create desired atmospheres in both stills and video with differences in tone, brightness, colour depth and more. A total of 10 modes are available to enhance creativity and allows users to share content immediately with no need for editing.
The ZV-1F also features S&Q mode[6] to shoot in both slow motion at 5 x slower speed[7] and quick motion at 60 x faster[8] hyper lapse speed to achieve a desired effect.
In addition to stills and video, high-quality sound is vital to capture perfect content. A Directional 3-Capsule Mic and wind screen provide clear voice recording and reduced noise in windy outdoor conditions.
A Simple Compact Vlogging Device The ZV-1F has been designed for total ease of use, so that vloggers can focus on content capture and intuitively use the camera without difficulty. Weighing only approx. 229g[9] it is compact and lightweight enough for everyday use and can be carried everywhere. It also features a Vari-Angle LCD touch screen with features and settings changed by touch, including the ability to zoom[10], so operation is instinctive.
The new vlog camera includes a Bokeh Switch button to allow users to quickly switch between background bokeh when they want to highlight the face and without, even whilst recording video. It also features a Product Showcase setting to allow users to seamlessly shift focus between face and products – perfect for reviews.
The ZV-1F also features a self-timer[11] and recording lamp to make video content even easier to capture.
Connectivity and Accessories The new vlog camera, ZV-1F, has been optimised for use with a smartphone. Sony’s new smartphone app Imaging Edge Mobile Plus™ [12] allows users to connect to the camera via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and transfer images and video. Content captured can be easily transferred to a smartphone and then uploaded to social platforms. Users can even mark shots for posting on social using shot marks[13] during shooting or on the camera. Additionally, users can cut out and transfer specific 15, 30, or 60 second[14] marked clips to their smartphone and post directly to social without the need to edit the length to suit the platform.
The Imaging Edge Mobile Plus™ app also allows users to control many of the camera’s settings like date, time and area as well as software updates and support guides. It can also operate the ZV-1F remotely and display battery level and remaining storage capacity.
Users can even use the ZV-1F as a high-quality live-streaming device. With an appropriate video conference application or similar software, the ZV-1F can function as a high-performance web camera when connected to a computer or smartphone via USB[16].
The ZV-1F is compatible with the GP-VPT2BT[17] Shooting Grip with Wireless Remote Commander which offers cable-free control of zoom, recording and more, and expands into a mini-tripod for stable hands-free shots. An external microphone can also be easily attached to the accessory shoe[18] for clear sound recording.
Supporting a Sustainable Future The ZV-1F was designed with environmentally friendly features and technology to ensure a sustainable future. Recycled materials[19] including SORPLASTM[20] are used in both the camera body and bundled accessories like the newly developed wind screen[21] that have been adapted to maintain performance. Plant-based non-woven fabrics are used for product bags to reduce plastic packaging.

2. Sensor
The Canon R7 sensor is a 32.5MP FSI CMOS sensor, There are two variants of CMOS: Front-side illuminated (FSI) and back-side illuminated (BSI). What makes a BSI CMOS sensor better than a conventional CMOS sensor? The simple answer is that the design makes it easier for light to reach the photo diodes on the sensor, BSI CMOS sensor ups readout speed and improves low-light imaging. And the Sony FX30 Camera features 26 MP BSI CMOS Sensor. So, sensor architecture says the Sony is better.
3. Video Resolution & Frame rate
4K 120 (1.6x / super 35mm look)
None
4k 60 (1.04x crop)
4K 60p HQ (1.8x Crop) / 4K Fine uncropped
4k 24, 30 fps
4k 24, 30 without crop
Full HD 240 FPS
Full HD 120 FPS
As you can see the Sony FX30 camera is able to shoot videos up to 4k 120 fps and Full HD videos up to 240 FPS. The crop factor of the Sony FX30 camera is negligible in 4k 60FPS mode and we do have an excessive crop in 4K video of the canon R7 camera if we are not using the “FINE” video mode. If we select the 4k 60fps full sensor readout mode in the Canon R7 then the camera goes into line-skipping algo and does record 4k videos with less details.
4. Video Codec
The Sony FX30 Record in 10-bit 4:2:2 using advanced XAVC HS and XAVC S-I formats. But, in Canon, we are missing the ALL-I intra format and so the MAX BIT RATE Speed. I don’t know why Canon always keep out the ALL-I intra format from their Mirrorless cameras. The S-Log3, the FX30 can capture 14+ stops of dynamic range. in Canon R7 we have the Clog3.
The FX30 camera is capable of producing RAW video data up to 16 BIT from the HDMI port. the Canon R7 remains limited to 10 BIT.
Additional features include S-Cinetone uses the same color science as Sony’s advanced cinema cameras, including the VENICE line, with natural mid tones, soft colors, and smooth highlight roll-off. And the most important part is Up to 16 user-created LUTs and three presets can be set for accurately monitoring footage or previewing a specific look during shooting. These can be applied to the camera’s monitor or EVF as well as the HDMI output.
5. Low-Light performance
Recording at the base ISO enables you to take full advantage of the image sensor performance. You can capture material that withstands color grading better, without becoming degraded.

Two base ISO options are available for FX30 also as you can see in the table above, for low or high sensitivity. Choose a base ISO to suit the scene you are shooting.
6. Image Stabilization
Sony FX30 features Mechanical Image stabilization / 5-axis in-body image stabilization, as well as FX30, which can also record gyro movement when the optical + Mech. stabilizers are turned off. Canon R7 camera features an excellent mechanical IBIS unit that corrects up to 7 stops of unwanted camera shake when shooting handheld.
7. Verdict
Sony FX30 is the best camera for recording videos when compared to the Canon R7 camera.
