In an interview published at CNET Sigma’s CEO Kazuto Yamaki said that they are planning to announce a “very unique lens” next year that never exited in the market.
What new models can we expect? Replacements for mainstay lenses like the 70-200mm or models that fit into the holes of your competitors’ product lines?
Yamaki: We have two directions. We have to develop the traditional lenses like the 50mm f1.4, but the other direction is that I really want to make a very unique lens that never existed in the market. That is a big motivation for me. Sigma has a history of releasing unique new lenses. In the 1970s, Sigma was the first company that developed the wide-angle zoom lens. It was 21-35mm. We are always trying to some something new.
Is there anything new coming this year?
Yamaki: We have already announced our products for this year. Next year we will have several new items.
Something nobody else has?
Yamaki: Next year.
However thy are still looking at the possibilities..
A zoom or prime [fixed focal length] lens?
Yamaki: Both. Well, we are still studying it. We’re not sure we can release it to the market. A new product is quite risky. Sometimes we have to give up in the middle of the development. We were very fortunate to complete the 18-35mm f1.8 design.

Sigma is ready to make Cine Lenses according to latest news, during a latest interview Kazuto Yamaki, CEO of Sigma said to Resource Mag
How could one of the greatest innovators of lens technology in the world not be producing lenses for high-end digital video and motion picture cameras? With such high standards, cinematographers seem like a natural market for Sigma.
When I asked Kazuto about this, he simply smiled and said the two words that make every tech writer crave more: “No comment.” It looks like Sigma may still has a few more tricks up their sleeve…
As we have already seen that the recently announced ART lenses features excellent build quality and comes under affordable price tag, So we hope that Sigma will maintain the high standards of optical quality by marinating the low price.

A quick look at history – It’s not the first time as far as I can remember Sigma DP1 was announced on September 26, 2006, and after several production delays (technical modification / implementing latest technologies etc…,) was finally arrived in stock at spring of 2008 (2 years of gap) and just after 1 year Sigma DP2 was also announced.
Also see – As we have published few days ago, Sigma DP2 production model is already in the hand of few people… according to a famous Belgian retailer PCH. Sigma DP2 Quattro image quality is similar to Pentax 645z
