Delay in the Initiation of the my Picturetown 3D Service

November 25, 2010

Nikon Corporation (Makoto Kimura, President) and Nikon Imaging Japan Inc. (Takao Nishioka, President) must unfortunately announce that the launch of my Picturetown 3D services, announced on October 26, will be delayed.

Though launch of my Picturetown 3D services was scheduled for the beginning of December, delays in production of the NF-300i 3D digital photo frame have led to postponement of the launch of the services.

The launch of my Picturetown 3D services is now scheduled for the second half of January 2011.

We sincerely apologize to all potential users of the services, and especially to those who have already applied for them, for the inconvenience. We appreciate your patience.

Nikon D3S - Best of What’s New Award by Popular Science Magazine

Nikon D3S D-SLR as the winner of a prestigious Popular Science 2010 “Best of What’s New” Award in the Gadgets category. Setting the standard for Pro D-SLR’s, the D3S was the first camera to achieve unprecedented new levels of low-light sensitivity for both photos and HD video, in addition to amazing image quality.

The FX-format Nikon D3S received a Best of What’s New Award from the Popular Science editors because of the camera’s ability to create images with low noise throughout the broad ISO sensitivity range from 200 to 12,800. The camera’s low-light capabilities afford professional photographers the ability to capture incredibly sharp, crisp still photos and video in low-light surroundings flash-free. Additionally, the Nikon D3S delivers superior image quality and high-speed performance that photographers seek throughout their photo-taking experiences.

“The D3S has significantly raised the bar for professional D-SLR cameras,” said Lisa Baxt, senior communications manager, Nikon Inc. “It has created new opportunities in low-light photography, while also delivering the highest image quality and high-speed performance that photographers have come to expect with Nikon D-SLR cameras.”

Every year, the editors of Popular Science review thousands of products in search of the top 100 tech innovations of the year as well as breakthrough products and technologies that represent a significant leap in their categories. Best of What’s New Awards are presented to 100 new products and technologies in 11 categories: Automotive, Aviation & Space, Computing, Engineering, Gadgets, Green Technology, Home Entertainment, Security, Home Technology, Health and Recreation. Hybrid biological-artificial photo sensor

Development of observation technology

Plants, which grow through exposure to sunlight, have the ability to efficiently convert particles of light into electrons. By using this function as a component and fine laboratory-developed molecular wires as connections, an artificial eye harnessing the power of living organisms has been created. The hybrid sensor formed from this combination of organic and artificial materials can detect even extremely minute amounts of light, enabling light to be utilized to the utmost limits.

D7000 vs 60D Low Light Test

I did test again (earlier one here: http://vimeo.com/16196365) to address two complaints about the earlier test, the white balance and the focus. The white balance was set to Auto before, leading to two different color temperatures. This time I set the white balance on both to 3300k (3330k on the Nikon, because it doesn’t have 3300k). Also, some people thought that the Canon looked improbably soft in comparison to the Nikon, so I made sure to triple check the focus this time. Both lenses are set to infinity and looked focused through the viewfinder and when zoomed in on the LCD.

The lenses are the same Zeiss Distagon 35mm f/2 on each camera. The tripods are also the same.

Thanks to Marco for taking the time to provide his technical expertise.

I posted more thoughts about the test on Adorama’s blog (http://bit.ly/9OEOzu) and my own Tumblr (nathanleebush.tumblr.com).
