Nikon Smartly Locked their Z-Mount

According to the latest rumors we have, Nikon has implemented some sort of partial restriction on its Z-mount Lenses, requiring third-party lens manufacturers to abide by specific guidelines if they wish to create lenses for the Latest Nikon Mirrorless cameras. Now, let’s have a look at what are those guidelines or the rules that the Third-party lens makers should follow while making the lenses for the Nikon Z-Mount cameras,

  1. The Most important rule that every thrid party lens maker should follow, is lens makers are prohibited from making up lenses with the same focal length, that already exist in the Nikon Z-mount or even in Nikon’s future roadmap. This move has been executed by Nikon with the intention of safeguarding the sales of its native Z-mount lenses. For example, a third-party brand such as Tamron can produce lenses with a focal length of 28-75mm F2.8 (we already have it as a re-branded lens) or 35-150mm F2-F2.8, but they are not authorized to sell lenses with a focal length of 24-70mm F4, which is already offered by Nikon. So, this  rule is limited to AF (AutoFocus Lenses)
  2. If You make Manual Focus Lenses for Nikon Z-Mount cameras, then there are no issues and no rules for the third-party lens makers. You can make lenses of any focal length possible.

Do you think Canon should follow the same policy? If yes then let us know via comments

More Confirmation: Sony A7C Mark II Coming with 33MP Sensor

According to the latest rumors, The Sony A7C Mark II camera is coming with the same 33MP full-frame Exmor R CMOS BSI sensor and the same IBIS unit, that we have seen in the Sony A74 camera. But, the EVF is expected to remain the same as the Sony A7C Camera.

Take a look at what the source said to the rumor mill

We can expect A7C II next year. Sony already reserved some components from A7IV for “another camera” including for example sensor and IBIS. Also they scheduled increased production ONLY for EVF from A7C mk1 for this year. So we are expecting A7C II same specs as A7IV, redesigned shell but same EVF like mk1.

On Nov 26th, 2022 in one of our articles published [Sony upcoming cameras of 2023] we told back then the Sony A7C Mark II camera will arrive in Q3 / Q4 of 2023 with the same sensor that we have seen in Sony A74. Now, we are getting the same confirmation from other rumor mills too.

Latest Sony A7C Mark II – Rumor Analysis

Is the rumored information correct or not?  Yes, we do know based on the scheduled announcement patterns of these Mirrorless makers, there is a high probability that we will see the Sony A7C Mark II camera in the year 2023 and we have said the same in our previous post too.

But the big question is, as the source said the Sony A7C Mark II will use the same sensor and IBIS unit as the Sony A7 IV camera,

1. Sony 33MP Full-Frame Exmor R CMOS BSI Sensor in A7C Mark II

Let’s talk about 33MP Sensor only – The source speculates that the A7C Mark II will feature the same sensor as the A7 IV, which is a strong possibility given that it’s already been 10+ months since the A7 IV was released, and as the market competition is begin raised up and competitors like Panasonic S5 Mark II | S5X arrived, they have no other option then to make an affordable Sony A74 mark IV curry for Cinematographers and content creators if they want to survive in $2000 body price range of cameras (against Pannsonic S5 II), As you know the Sony A7 C Mark I look drastically weak in front of S5 Mark II and yes, the Sony FX30 is a good option for beginner cinematographers but it features an APS-C CMOS sensor, the A7C Mark II will be a perfect competitor of Panasonic S5  Mark II if they upscale the video core specs (Like 4k 60p uncropped) and remove the overheating issue from the camera.

Not only that, the A7C Mark II is expected to have a more content creators-friendly body design, to make it more user-friendly undoubtedly we will see some sacrifice in the controls or EVF part compared to the A74. So, the Sony A7 IV camera will remain safe in its place if someone wants a super perfect Hybrid Camera more for photography and a bit less for dedicated video work A7 IV is still the perfect option for them, but at the same time the Sony A7C Mark II will not only attract a new consumer base, but it will also stop the migration of Sony users to a different brand like Panasonic or Canon.

2. Same or Redesigned  Sony A7 IV  IBIS Unit inside A7C Mark II Body?

Ok, the sensor part is perfect, but how is it possible, the upcoming Sony A7C Mark II will use the same IBIS unit as the Sony A7 IV camera ?.take a look at what dpreview said about the Sony A7C camera

Sony has redesigned its in-body stabilization system to fit into a much smaller body than before

Is the rumor mill source really correct with the set of information he shared with us? Since, if Sony uses the same IBIS Sensor mechanism of the Sony A74 IV camera in Sony A7C Mark II Body, the camera will lose its Truly compact form factor, will Sony camera division marketing team allow this to happen?. Yes, they can use a Redesigned version of the Sony A7 Mark IV IBIS unit to easily fit inside the Sony A7C Mark II body and the camera retains its compact form factor.

And yes, finally the EVF, the camera is made for cinematographers, content creators, and videographers so having a high-quality EVF isn’t that important in the upcoming Sony A7C Mark II camera. So, yes the Sony A7C Mark II may arrive with the same 2.36m-Dot OLED Electronic Viewfinder.

Canon to Expand EOS R Mirrorless Camera Range in 2023 | Canon EOS R Mark II Coming ?

So, we have now the Canon financial results for Q4 2022.  According to the report by Canon, the imagine (camera) division of CanonIn Q3, enjoying double-digit growth in unit sales, driven by higher product supply and new models, and the recently announced EOS R7 and R10, leading to significant revenue increase with lens sales.

More Details coming out from Canon Sales Report pdf

  • Demand for cameras remains solid, even amid economic slowdown, thanks to the launch of new mirrorless models and interchangeable lenses by each company. As a result, we expect the market in 2022 to be 5.45 million units, a slight increase compared to last year.
  • In the third quarter, thanks to the higher volume of product supply and the addition of new models, namely the EOS R7 and EOS R10, mirrorless cameras that incorporate APS-C size sensors, we posted double-digit growth in unit sales, and coupled with an increase in lens sales, a significant increase in overall revenue.
  • Regarding our unit sales projection for the full year, we maintained our previous projection of 2.8 million units as we will not be able to supply enough products to meet demand. Going forward, we will continue to stimulate demand by steadily strengthening our lineup of EOS R series mirrorless cameras.
  • Cameras that incorporate full-frame sensors, like the EOS R5 and EOS R6, continue to enjoy strong support from professionals and advanced amateurs. Additionally, the 2 new cameras that incorporate APS-C size sensors, with their light-weight and small form factor appeal, are encouraging users who want to enjoy serious photography to switch from SLR cameras or step up from entry models.
  • We have also expanded our range of RF lenses to 32 models, providing users a variety of options.
  • Going forward, we will continue efforts to expand our market share and maintain high profitability by building a more robust EOS R system lineup

Does the last line indicate Canon EOS R Mark II is Coming?

In the last line you can read,  “expand our market share and maintain high profitability by building a more robust EOS R system lineup” the line suggests that Canon is planning to announce a new camera model or models that will attract and expand the user base of interchangeable lens cameras. This could mean that the new model may have features aka specifications that will appeal to a broader range of users, beyond just professionals and advanced amateurs. The goal may be to increase the popularity of interchangeable lens cameras and bring in new users who previously used other types of cameras or who have not used a camera before. So, it clearly indicates that Canon will refresh the entry-level EOS R Mirrorless line-up, so we can expect either the arrival of base models like Canon R50 / R100 as rumored earlier or EOS R Mark II / Canon R8 or maybe a mixed bag of announcements to appeal wide consumer base.

Sony Closed its China Camera Plant

Finally, we have some good for Sony Mirrorless camera users, According to Nikkei Shimbun, Sony is moving already moved 90% of its Camera Production line from China to Thailand. So, now the Thailand plant working in a much larger capacity, this was really very important to ensure the steady supply of camera units worldwide.. We already faced big issues in the past when almost all the new models of Sony cameras were available in very limited quality, so undoubtedly it was an excellent move form, Sony.

Why Sony Removed Slog 2 in FX3?

Sony Gmaster Lenses are still made in China?

Yes, the Mirrorless camera production line now shifted to Thailand, but still the Gmaster series lenses we are using, most of them are made in china.

It’s not the first time a camera maker closed its camera production plant in china. Just before Sony, Nikon shut down its digital camera factory in the Jiangsu province of China Canon also closed its major plant located in China – the Zhuhai factory. The 32-year plant is the only production base for digital cameras, sensors,  And now finally Sony.

More Confirmations: Panasonic GH7 will have Hybrid MOS AF Sensor

Finally, we are getting more confirmation, recently we have published an article “Panasonic GH7 Coming in 2023 with Hybrid AF Sensor [Expectation]

The confirmation arrived from Yamane-san from Panasonic recently mentioned in an interview that they will adopt the best autofocus method (obviously they are talking about the PDAF) depending on the target users and customer benefits, and they will consider installing PDAF on the camera based on its characteristics (means starting from the pro-MFT like GH series and then moving downwards). This particular piece of information adds more credibility to the set of information we have shared with u guys a while ago.

Actual Parts  of the interview

As for future cameras, we will adopt the optimal autofocus method each time, while assessing the target users and customer benefits. We will consider installing PDAF depending on the characteristics of the model, not only for full size but also for MFTs, so please look forward to it.

About future 2023 products:

We will continue to support creators and develop products that creators want. And we will also consider the need for higher-end products to meet the future needs of creators. I can’t give you details about future products, but Johnnie’s high-end model for video production professionals may take a little more time. Anyway, please look forward to that day.

A part of the Text from our article published on January 22nd, 2023

One of the most highly-anticipated features of the GH7 is its hybrid AF sensor, yes we do believe this time we will have a Hybrid CMOS AF inside. This sensor will be a combination of both contrast-detection and phase-detection autofocus technologies just like we have seen in the recently announced Panasonic’s S5 Mark II camera and has received positive feedback from users. The inclusion of this technology in the GH7 camera will allow for faster and more accurate autofocus, making it a more attractive option for professional photographers and videographers who require high-performance cameras. The only Major Upgrade I Wish for inside the upcoming GH7 camera.

However, it is important to note that while Yamane-san’s comments provide some support for the speculations in the article, it is still important to wait for official announcements from Panasonic regarding their upcoming GH7 camera

Fuji X-S20 Coming Next

According to the latest rumors surfaced over the rumor mill, Fuji X-20 will be the NEXT  announcement from Fuji. That’s all the latest information we have from the rumor mill.

end of rumor

BTW, in one of our previous articles Fuji Upcoming Cameras 2023 [Expectations], we discussed that Fuji X-S20 is expected to arrive in the year 2023. And we have also published expected core specs too, but in that set of specs we didn’t jump into the details of why we have written X-20 will arrive with a 26MP sensor since actually many of my subscribers are expecting that the X-S20 should arrive with a Fuji Latest 40MP APS-C X-Trans sensor.

It is certainly possible that if Fujifilm were to add all of the features of the X-T5 to the upcoming X-S20 camera, it could potentially lower the sales of the X-T5.

First, it’s important to note that the X-T5 and X-S10/X-S20 are different camera models that are targeted at different types of the consumer base. The X-T5 is a more advanced camera with more advanced features and more direct control over settings, while the X-S10/X-S20 are more entry-level / mid-range cameras with more simplified controls for beginners.

Another consideration is that adding both a 40 MP sensor and a New Image processor,  would also increase the cost of the X-S20 and would not be the same price as the X-S10, which could also affect its own sales too, those who are waiting to upgrade to X-S10 may select a different camera if its price is increased.

 Content creators vs Photographers?

According to market analysis, the trend of content creation is increasing day by day, and more and more people are interested in creating video content. As per the data, the number of YouTubers with more than 1 million subscribers has grown by more than 75% since 2018, and the number of TikTok users has grown by more than 50% in the same period. Hence, launching a camera that is content creator-friendly would be a great move for Fujifilm to capture a significant portion of this growing consumer base.

As you can see most of the entry-level and mid-range cameras from camera makers are coming out with more content creator-friendly cameras, so we do expect that the upcoming X-S20 will have a major update in the video part of the camera compared to the still side.

The Specs that we expect from Fuji X-S20

  • 26.1MP APS-C X-Trans BSI CMOS 4 Sensor
  • X-Processor 5 Image Processor
  • 5-Axis In-Body Image Stabilization
  • DCI/UHD 4K at 60 fps, Full HD at 240 fps
  • 425-Point Hybrid AF System
  • 2.36m-Dot 0.62x OLED EVF
  • 3.0″ 1.04m-Dot Vari-Angle Touchscreen
  • Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Connectivity

Overall, Fujifilm’s decision to upgrade or not to upgrade the X-S20’s features will depend on the market demand, competition, and production cost. However, considering the increasing consumer base of content creators, it would be a great idea for Fujifilm to launch a camera that is content creator-friendly, and as I have mentioned, upgrading the image processor, AF system, and video specs of the camera would be a good start.

Fuji X-S20 Coming on April 2023?

We don’t know when it will be out yet, but some people think it might be announced in April at an event called the X Summit. We will have to wait and see if Fujifilm says when it will be out.
