As for Imaging, by expanding sales of new mirrorless cameras and also maintaining the growth of network cameras by capturing expanding demand, sales and profit have increased and profitability remains at a high level.
As for cameras, we expect the market to grow slightly to 5.85 million units in 2023, as user demand is stimulated by new mirrorless cameras launched by each company.
Since last year, we have launched 6 mirrorless cameras, from entry class to advanced amateur models, in an effort to strengthen our EOS R series lineup. In the second quarter, sales of these new products were strong, and sales of RF lenses along with camera units increased, resulting in double-digital sales growth.
For the full year as well, we will aim for double-digit sales growth and unit sales of 2.9 million units, which exceeds that of last year. In order to broaden the scope of camera users, following the EOS R50 in March, our first entry-class model of our EOS R series, we released the EOS R100 in June. This product is the smallest and lightest in the series, and it is a model that users can easily enjoy full-fledged image capturing, which will encourage people to step up from smartphones.
In June, we launched the PowerShot V10, a camera specifically designed for vlogging to capture growing demand. We will continue to offer new cameras while differentiating ourselves from smartphones, featuring 4K 30 frames per second longduration video capturing and natural selfies at close range with a wide-angle lens
We have new Sirui S35 Cinema lenses of 24 mm, 35 mm, and 55 mm focal length for Canon RF mount, Sony E-mount, and even for Micro Four Thirds mount. So finally, we have a S35 / APS-C cinema lens made for RF mount party lens maker. All these lenses are fully manual and don’t exhibit any electrical contact.
Canon is rumored to announce the Canon R5 Mark II in 2024 and the Canon R5C Mark II camera will arrive sometime in 2025, according to the source of the rumor mill. No details about the specification of the upcoming camera available right now.
Now, if we look at the past, the Canon R5 was announced back in July 2020 and the Canon R5C camera was announced in 2022. So, we do have a good gap between these two cameras and the rumor mill is expecting a similar kind of gap between the announcement of the Canon R5 Mark II and the Canon R5C Mark II.
But at the same time, we have to understand one thing very clearly: the requirement for the Canon R5C camera arose because the Canon R5 was not able to deliver the promised specifications to cinematographers, and due to excessive overheating, Canon announced a separate line of R5C series cameras.
If we look at all the factors, then the R5C was needed at that moment because the original Canon R5 was not able to handle 8K video files properly due to excessive internal overheating.
If Canon makes a perfect Canon R5 Mark II camera with a proper heat sink unit that doesn’t allow the camera to overheat even after extensive use, then there is actually no need for a separate series like an R5C.
On the design part, we would require two extra things: one is an extra port for time code and the other is a full-size HDMI.
According to the latest information from a new source, the upcoming Canon R5 Mark II camera uses a 60-megapixel sensor. With internal raw recording, it can capture 8k videos of up to 60 frames per second.

We do have confirmations that the upcoming Canon R1 camera will have enhanced eye or iris tracking capability (Confirmed: Canon R1 Has Canon R3 Eye Control AF System and more… published on June 2023). Currently, the Canon R3 camera uses a 5.76 million pixel electronic viewfinder with 120 frames per second refresh rate.
If we talk about the industry’s best electronic viewfinder in cameras, then we have the flagship Sony A7R5 camera with a 9.44 million pixel electronic viewfinder and 120 frames per second refresh rate.
We have to think very clearly that Canon R1’s electronic viewfinder technical specs are not as easy as that of the Sony A7R5 since Canon has to integrate the eye-tracking capability to enable the Eye AF system, just like we have in the Canon R3 camera. It’s fascinating to see how much upscaling in resolution Canon can do in their upcoming Canon R1 camera’s electronic viewfinder while enhancing the 3D Eye AF.

So, the Canon R5 Mark II camera will be announced before the Canon R1 flagship camera, which is scheduled to come before the Olympics of 2024.
According to the latest rumors surfacing on the web, Canon is about to expand its V series of Vlogging cameras. Right now we have only the Canon V10 in front of us, but in the near future, we will have a Canon V100 camera dedicated to content creators. It will compete against Sony’s ultra-popular ZV-E10 content creator compact APS-C mirrorless camera. Based on initial hands-on reports, the camera is expected to arrive at the end of 2023 or at the beginning of 2024.
